If you are looking at the meal plan as a way to save money, dont bother. Its not a money saving tool. If you are looking at it as a way to plan in advance, and prepay for meals (so you have less out of pocket during the trip) then its not a bad idea. If you want more info on the ins and outs of the plan please ask. I've used it a couple times and have a pretty good feel for how it works.

I wouldn't use it as a way to prepay your meals either since you don't get change back when using the vouchers. For example, if you're getting snacks that total $5.50, and you pay for it using a $6 snack voucher, you don't get any change back, and good luck trying to get something else that only costs .50 cents at DL.

The meal plan sure as heck doesn't save you any money, and actually you will likely lose money if using the plan.

You're better off using plain old cash or a Disney Visa credit card to pay for your meals and snacks.

We never lost money on the deal. We used all of vouchers and made sure to have some cash to pay the "over" amount. It takes a small amount of planning, but its not hard. We like going on the trip knowing that we have $XX amount of food paid for.

We were the same way, I loved having the meal plan. We never lost any money, and was nice to be able to go on vaca. with it 90% paid for. I am a terrible saver, I hate credit cards, and it was nice not to have to carry much cash in the park for food. We are using it again when we go next Oct.

We skip the meal plan because it doesn't save you money and reduces your flexibility. We tend to be spur of the moment about a lot of our meals and we eat several of them in DTD. If you want to pre-pay for busgeting, I recommend Disney dollars which can then be shunted to other expenses if you decide to eat offsite.
