Cast - myself, DH, DS age 13 and DS age 10
Today is St. Thomas and that means Immigration. Originally we were going to do an excursion to St. John, but me with my obsessive-compulsive planning disorder was not sure that we could get through Immigration and eat breakfast all before 7:30 in the morning without my family hating my guts in the process (yes, I am indeed the Vacation Nazi when we go to Disney World). So the plan is to venture to a beach on St. Thomas on our own. We were going to do Sapphire Beach, but upon learning several other DIS'ers were going to go to Coki Point we changed our minds. It's nice seeing familar faces when you are on vacation!
So Immigration was at 7:30 and took about 20 minutes. Unfortunately the breakfast buffets were a madhouse because everyone was up early, so we waited about another 20 minutes to be seated in Parrot Cay. We disembarked around 9'ish and shared a cab with a couple of other families from our ship. I was a little surprised at how small the beach was, but it was very pretty and didn't get too crowded (probably because it was cloudy and looked like it would rain). We got some chairs (no umbrella needed) and some snorkling equipment for the boys. Everyone was gathered around a small reef - there were hundreds of colorful fish there! The family we shared a cab with gave the kids some dog biscuits. If you held the dog biscuits down to the fish, they would eat right out of your hand! DS 10 said that was one of the best parts of the trip. This beach has waves on it, which is nice for my kids since they're used to the waves on the Jersey shore and the Outer Banks. In a little while, we meet up with some of our DIS friends.
We had made arrangements to have the same cab driver pick us up, so we left around 12:30. The cabbie takes the scenic route back, which of course he charges us extra for. We did get some great pictures though, and it was much nicer than the way we came in. We had a brief moment of sheer terror when DH could not find my driver's license when we got back to the dock. The other family was nice enough to try to keep us calm ("calm" is generally not a word most people would use to describe us). Finally DH finds my license in a pocket in his wall behind the one he had everything else in. OK - after that, time to reboard and have a beer to settle down!
We just catch the tail end of lunch before 2:00, and the kids take off to their clubs. DH and I get off with both driver's licenses accounted for, and we head to Havensight Mall. Our wedding anniversary was last week, but we were holding off on the jewelry present until St. Thomas! We picked out a tanzanite and diamond necklace to match the tanzanite ring I got last year in Nassau. My DH did really well!
Tonight is our Palo dinner. We met the kids back in the room before dinner. They did not want to go to Animator's to eat, so they just had some burgers, fries, and ice cream on Deck 9.
Our Palo server, Aleksandar, was the same we were supposed to have on Sunday morning. He asked how I was feeling (such a sweetie!) and I told him much better. We start with Lemoncello Martinis and the house pizza, which has some sort of spicy chicken. It was delicious but one piece was enough! Next DH had the portobello mushroom and I had the calamari. Palo has the best calamari I have ever had, hands down! We both ordered the filet mignon, which was delicious even though I couldn't finish it because of course I had to save room for the chocolate souffle! Aleksandar also brought panecotta for us to try which was also very good. I am so stuffed I feel like they could just roll me out of there!
We had plans to meet some DIS'er friends in Rockin' Bar D to see Rich Purpura's comedy act. We got there a little early to catch some of the band. The lead singer reminds me of Chris Daughtry from "American Idol".
Rich Purpura is hysterical ("5 out of 4 people do not understand fractions").
Afterwards it's 80's Night and a few of the DIS'ers get in on the act. We went to pick up DS 10, but he had checked himself out about a half hour earlier and was watching cartoons in bed. DS 13 comes in around 12 - he is really enjoying his freedom this week, because at home his curfew is "when it gets dark." The time has really been flying by!
