4/24/2010 Med cruise: Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your Ears

Good Morning all -

DS and I arrive at 9:45 am on April 23rd, not sure what our body clocks will be doing flyng ovrnight and coming in from South America.

We might be interested is meeting up if this is on the 23rd.

DH gets home today, and he WILL be looking over all the private tour info, I have received! I am getting so excited.

I've never done semi-formal on a port day. In the Caribbean it's on a sea day, but I can see why they'd switch it for this one.

The time is getting so close. I feel like I have a million things to do. Like learn some Italian and Spanish.

Julie

Yesterday, I was at Disneyland and did a little shopping. It came me inspiration for the cruise theme and logo.

Since I don't think anyone had exceptionally strong leanings (forgive me if I am wrong), I'd like to go with "Friends, Romans, Countrymen...Lend Me Your Ears" with Mickey Mouse Ears and a wavy rainbow wording (to gove some color.

I just think it is a pretty funny tie-in with Italy (3 ports) and MM / Disney. And it will go great with my purchases.

As to lanyards, just make sure I've got correct spellings on the website.

Lynne- how is Disneyland? I haven't been since before Sadie was born, so that's over 16 years now.

Also, again, the Friends Romans design sounds great. I'll be doing an Aladdin magnet in Arabic (yeah right) at some point. When I figure out how to do it, where to do it, then I'll post it.

I think we're going to miss our connection in Heathrow, with about 1 h 45 between flights, but if we do, I guess we'll work it out. Dh thinks the three of us could make it, since it'll be just big kids and me. And people have said even with the change of terminal it's quick.

Anyone know if you buy roundtrip tickets and don't use the way over, can you use the returns? Weird question, huh? I'll ask on the transportation board.

Julie

No you can't use the return if you Skip the front flight. Your ticket will be invalid.

We are looking into these because of all the walking there will be especially in Rome. Is anyone interested in sharing a van? It holds 6-8 people. I looked at the ones for the Rome connection. Does anyone has any other suggestions? Is anyone that already booked a van looking for someone to share it with them.?

Thought I would share some info with anyone that is traveling on their own to Rome. You can buy a ticket in Civitavecchia that is a one day transportation pass. You can use it on the regional train, the metro and the bus in Rome. It is called the BIRG and it is only 9 euro. There are aprox 3 regional trains per hour to Rome from Civitavecchia and back. You have to make sure that you stamp it (there are little stamp machines everywhere in the train station) each time before you board the train. You can buy the tickets at the train station and also at the little tabacco stores.

Thanks Lynne. No TA for us, then.

Julie

Oh it would be so nice for you guys to be on the TA too, and such great prices right now :)

Even if the ticket is non refundable, depending on the airline you might be able to switch it to a one way after absorbing the change/penalty fee and not put any money out of pocket. Worth at least calling maybe.

We might be interested in sharing a private car, I have quote from Rome Connections and Rome in Limo for the ports of Rome, La Spezia (Pisa/Florence),and Naples(Pompeii/Amalfi Coast/Sorrento), but haven't booked anything, since it is too costly on our own.

I also got what I think is a great quote from Riveria Premium Touring in Villefranche (8 Hours) for 8 pax, at 61 Euros pp.

We are also reviewing whether to do these ports on our own. If you PM your email address, I can send you all the details!

Have a safe trip Lara. I'm sure you'll have a great time! I really enjoyed meeting up the other day.

Julie, how about buying a ticket that's return from Barcelona TO the states, that way you'll be on the "first" leg...wonder if that'll work?

We leave today for a nine day holiday of Bangkok & Hong Kong. Disneyland Hong Kong....Here I come!

I'll be checking in! Have a great week.

Have an awesome trip Lara! Wow, Disneyland Hong Kong. I am so jealous!

Arrived safely in 80 degree F Honolulu and am still jealous of alltheparks family. Maybe if DL HK is on my dream list, I'll get there someday.

Everyone on vacation, have a great time!

Hong Kong Disney is on our list. When we take the two littlest ones back to visit China, we'll make a detour there.

Julie

Ahhh...Honolulu. Lynne you'll have to convert to centigrade for me. I have too many things on my wishlist. Not enough cash and time to fit them all in. Sigh...
