4/24/2010 Med cruise: Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your Ears

Well - we've started our packing. DH went through his stuff, we went through the boys' stuff and other than tshirts which will be added to the pile later in the week and the unmentionables ;) the guys in my life are set to go :thumbsup2 My stuff, on the other hand, hangs in my closet. It's all kinda in the same location of the closet and I currently have - okay - don't laugh - 7 PAIR OF SHOES! :scared1: I wonder what the guys can leave behind to accommodate all of my shoes? :rolleyes1 :lmao: DH says that if I add one more pair of shoes - I may have to leave a child behind -- but then I'll have one less suitcase to put my stuff in and that won't work for me :lmao: I can buy the kids more clothes when we get there - right??? :lmao:

Tink, you are too funny. Really looking forward to meeting you. Now I'm just going to have to make sure to check everyone's shoes out each day. LOL

I'll be the one in the old, scuffed up privo's-I have a feeling the new "cute" shoes won't work out... I think I'll stuff the (seven or maybe eight) pairs of shoes in the carry on-I think my three sets of clothes for each day already weigh 50 pounds without adding in the suitcase. Usually, I can stuff a few things in the kids suitcases to even out the weight-this time it's all on me!!

I will have a total of three pairs of shoes, my running shoes which I will use for travelling and which are the most comfortable for touring, a pair of Crocs for the beach and around the ship and a pair of smart shoes for dinner. I plan on doing the laundry half way through the cruise so I will take half as many clothes as I would normally need for the cruise. I will however pack 2 cocktail dresses and an evening gown.

I watched the Magic sail away yesterday and intend to track her through ship charts on the way across the Atlantic.

I'm not a shoe person but we added an extra bag so I am bringing an evening dress and pair of shoes to match :goodvibes I was going to bring one pair of evening shoes anyway to go with 2 cocktail dresses and then crocs - 2 pairs of the cayman style and Minnie janes, they are so light and I stuff them with socks so it's like they don't take up any space (that's my arguement at least ). We're also doing laundry at least once - I got some free sample sizes which are perfect :woohoo:
DH has now given me all his laundry (I started packing weeks ago ) so I'll get that done this week and then hope everything fits in the bags when I packing it all next weekend :thumbsup2

Good luck everyone squeezing it all in :goodvibes

I agree about crocs. They don't even count and they are so comfortable to walk in for long periods of time. I think they will be fine for the cobblestones, etc. that we will encounter in Europe.

Wow, I guess I'm behind seeing so many already doing a jump start on packing. I am also not a shoe person and all of us likely to bring 1 or 2 pairs for the whole trip. And vacation is long enough that I'm glad on this as we have enough to take given how long the trip is. Hoping to do laundry on the cruise in an attempt to keep the packing down by 1/2 as well.

I am a huge Crocs fan. Even my smart shoes are Crocs. I have not been able to wear anything with heels since I damaged my ankle ligaments at 14 until I came across those last year:

They are covered in blue velvet and are so comfortable. Nobody wanted to believe me that they are actually Crocs.

I am really tempted to get them in black as well. I got some swimsuits and a sundress today so I am pretty much set for the cruise.

Well I am glad I am not the only one planning on packing. I thought I was starting too early.I agree, though< shoes are the main problem. They weigh a lot and take up space. My goal is 4 backpacks and 2 suitcases. After reading the other posts I think I am being very unrealistic.

I fell like I am so behind. I wont be able to start until next weekend and we leave Wednesday the 21st. Keep posting ladies, you are helping me with my list and reminding me of all the things I am forgetting.

Both myself and my DS get very motion sick. Does anyone have any GREAT remedies to suggest? I am battling with what to do to make sure we dont get sick.

Thanks all,

Donna

Have you cruised before? I suffer from severe motion sickness and get very ill on car or bus journeys, on fairground rides, etc, but I am absolutely fine on ships. On our very first cruise we were chased by three tropical storms/ hurricanes and on the last day we had 35 foot waves. Here is a video of the Quiet Cove Pool on that day:

I was completely fine. Some people swear by Ginger Ale or ginger tablets. Others take bonine or dramamine or have a patch to help with or prevent sea sickness.

I've also heard ginger tablets are great. Fortunately, in our family we only get airsick and carsick.

Those Crocs are amazing. I've never seen a pair like that. I'm not bringing any Crocs on this trip, though ds might.

I did get out the formal clothes and had the kids try theirs on, and I have to buy a big suitcase, then I'll start packing.

Where are you keeping track of Magic's progress as she goes?

Julie

Have been avoiding the huge pile of clothes today-I can't really downsize until I know more about the weather (well, that's the excuse of the day)-but did go through everything else... Scanned the passport into the computer and emailed a copy to myself as well as made several copies to stick in various places...Bought a new light weight suitcase with spinners, packed the carry on and toiletry bag, typed detailed instructions to sister-in-law about pick up times for kids, typed detailed daily duties for each child-so they will know who to blame if there are no towels, school uniforms, or clean dishes each morning, avoiding doing the list for DH-he has no idea what he is in for while I'm gone...And am now wondering what I was thinking when I booked this trip:confused3
