Having just returned from the 4/20/02 sailing on the Magic -- our third trip with DCL -- I wanted to comment on the recent changes of the Castaway Club.

As I noted in an older post --- I received a reply to an email to DCL concerning the Castaway Club pins. I was assured by Tracy at DCL Guest Communications that we would be receiving our Castaway Club pins for each person in our party who were returning cruisers. These would be received upon check in at the Castaway Club Priority check-in in the Port. No on in that are knew of any such pins to be given during check in?? I replied to DCL/Tracey today -- and will let you know what she tells me? My reply was to ask her to mail us the 4 pins that she told me we would receive during check in.... time will tell.:)

We did receive the black duffle bag in the rooms -- same as a year ago. My hubby joked that maybe we could save them all and trade them in for 'bigger luggage' as we accumulate more -- sort of like prizes at a carnival.:D

There was not any huge book on board deals. The prices we received were the same prices that well informed DISers like us can find on our own.;) The only difference is the fact that for the 7 day cruise -- when booked on board the ship -- a Castaway Club credit of $200 per stateroom will be applied to the new reservation. No more waiting 90 days to receive this benefit. To receive the room credit for the next cruise, you must book on board before you leave. The rep on board did tell us that we could transfer to a TA of our choice once home and reap any additional benefits which they may offer though. And you could even book a date on board -- and transfer to a different date once home and you would still receive your credit. They were not taking ressie's for 2004 yet (she said not until summer of this year) -- but we could have booked for 2003 and transferred to 2004 once those dates become available. We decided NOT to take advantage of the book on board deal - stateroom credit.

Thanks for the updated CC info and I hope you get your pins! :)

Hey Wovenwonder,
Go to Ebay with those bags!! I used to save them, but when the back of the closet started getting too full, I started listing them on Ebay and get $28 a pop. I had sold them all, but now we got another one last weeked. I'll have to list it this week to get some more $$ to put towards our May spa bill (that will be a week on the Magic, so our spa expenses will be outrageous).
As for the pins, we were told on board the ship that giving them out at check-in hasn't started yet, but it is supposed to soon (how soon I couldn't say).

Barb, Let me know when you put the bag on ebay. We are doing our 2nd cruise in June and my sons will be arguing over who gets the bag---maybe I should. Do they ever change the gift? Beth

Yep, they have changed it a few times...first it was a big blue bag, then a Magic or Wonder picture frame, and now it's been the black sports bag for quite a long time. My favorite was the big blue bags...I still use them all the time, plus one of the black ones is used to haul my gym or stable clothes.
Email me at disneycruise@yahoo.com if you're interested in the bag before I list it. It's fresh from our weekend cruise! I'm glad hubby finally convinced me to start listing them as it helps to subsidize our trips. I was just surprised that there is a market for them.

Barb, Thanks for the info.I sent you an email about the bag. What would you like to see as the new castaway club gift? beth

Hmmm, good questions...
Maybe something to do with pins. My hubby is lusting for one of those ships made out of pins that used to be a AAA present. Other than that, maybe something useful like a nice DCL beach towel.

Maybe they could start some type of tier of gifts based on the number of cruises--imagine what you could get Barb! The beach towel is a good idea. I'm a pin trader so I wouldn't mind the pins either, but not everyone would like that. Have you made those suggestions? It sounds like it's time for a new gift. Are they giving anything special on the Inaugerial Western cruise?
