Began this day earlier than I would have liked. Poor BriarPatch was teething all night and restless. But what a view out our verandah. First, thought I hope DH, our appointed videographer for the trip, gets this view on film. Hmmm, now that I think about it, I don’t recall seeing DH with the video camera since our Chef Mickey’s breakfast. So I grab the camera and sure enough, we have a whopping 7 minutes of video, nothing since before we boarded. So I say to my DH, in my best Donald Trump voice, “You’re fired”. He just rolls over. So I take some video of us getting closer to Cozumel. Grandma arrives with the girls and room service shortly thereafter.
(I must say, since our first little mix up with them, they have gone out of their way for us. We received special treats from the concierge each day and cookies and milk every night, but in addition they would always add extra to our breakfast orders. And the day of the mix up they sent us a card and chocolate strawberries. Anyone who knows me, knows I will overlook nearly anything for chocolate covered strawberries. Unfortunately DS gobbled down most of them before I realized we had them.)
DH and I had a 10:30am Surial appt but the Spa called and said we could come at 10 if we wanted. So off we went to what would become my favorite part of the trip.
The Surial Bath is like your own private rainforest room. (And if you have a son who has been shadowing you for days, this is the Romantic Escape from Son at Sea package.) You have a steam room with lots of little benches and shower heads and a room with a long bench and a shower. It has a locking door and they knock on the door to tell you when you have 10 minutes left in your hour. We were given tons of Elemis products to use for our skin and hair, plus a huge bowl of reddish brown mud and sea salt. I think they usually give you other muds and creams but since I was still nursing, we just got a HUGE bowl of mud. We were instructed to go into the steam room and mix the sea salt with a body wash and rub it all over. Then we should come out of the steam and rinse off. We could put on a facial mask if we wanted to (all of this is provided on a table) and then go back into the steam and apply the mud. We could relax with it on or ‘whatever’ for as long as we liked. With that our spa hostess left us and we locked the doors.
The sea salt scrub feels awesome. And I loved the facial stuff. The steam room was SUPER steamy and it cleared up all my congestion I had. What a plus. However, since the water on the floor is heated to make the steam, there can be some really hot, burning spots. Be careful of those. We started to apply the mud to each other, lots of fun. You can write with it, its really dark. We were testing out all the great little shower sprays when I found a water hose. I turned to show DH but he already found one and was drenching me with it. We ended up having a water fight and a lot of fun. End of details.
I really loved using all the Elemis facial products and I used every one. I ended up buying the body lotion. This is now a MUST DO for any future DCL cruise.
So its back to the room now to pick up the family. With everyone suited and lotioned up we head off the ship. We grab a van cab to Paradise Beach. It is really windy today and the water looks rough, but we skipped our beach day yesterday, so we were going for it. It was $26 for all of us. Maybe high, I didn’t care. We were off. We had a great driver, his horn played “La Cucaracha” and he honked at all the “gringos” to get out of the way- “Arriba”. Redhead whispers to me, “Mommy, he’s just like the mouse on t.v.” She has recently seen her first Speedy Gonzales cartoon. (I apologize now for all of my spelling errors.) Now while this makes everyone including our driver smile, I am worried that she is whispering. Redhead never whispers. As far as I know she has no volume control, and believe me I have looked for the switch many times, along with an off button. Now I notice she is also quite pale. Oh great, she is carsick. I see it coming. “Mama, I’m gonna puke.” I get out the Castaway Cay towel and prepare. Well, she just dry heaves but our driver slows down and takes it easy on any bumps. We arrive at the beach and Freddie our waiter sets us up with chairs and an umbrella. Then Freddie made DH’s day. When Shawn ordered a beer, he asked if he would care for a bucket as they were cheaper that way. Well, Shawn’s face lit up at that. A bucket of Sol came a few minutes later.
Now due to the wind, the water trampoline wasn’t out and the water was rough. But we still had fun and enjoyed some great food. We got guacamole dip, burritos, tacos, and quesadillas. The kids played and eventually Redhead fell asleep on a mat in the shade.
Luc and Braelynn wanted to try the trampoline they had. The hook you up in a harness and bounce you high in the air. It was $10 bucks each. Braelynn went first and after just one spring she remembered she is terrified of heights. (Insert screaming 9 year old hear, “I don’t want to do this anymore”) So they hook up Luc and I ask that they just give him Braelynn’s time as well. So Luc got an extra long time and it was the highlight of his trip. He did somersaults in the air and back flips. Time to head back as BriarPatch refuses to nap and is getting really fussy. We ask for a van cab and a guy pulls up. He quotes me $10 more than what we paid before. I say I don’t think so and tell him what I paid before. He ups that by $2. At this point I am too tired to care and have a fussy baby. So we’re off on what would be the worst cab ride ever. This guy flew and bumped and weaved like a madman. He didn’t care what we had to say and he had offensive music playing. Fortunately the kids were too scared to listen to the lyrics. Redhead was not looking good and she wasn’t making a sound. Uh oh.
We get to the pier. I practically throw his money at him, what a jerk. We get back on board and Redhead looks bad. She wants chocolate milk which we say no to. We let her rest until dinner. Tonight is Mexicali night. We are in Parrot Cay. Redhead is still really quiet. We are getting settled and BriarPatch is fussing. That is most likely why I didn’t notice that Redhead had found her waiting chocolate milk and was gulping it down. Not a minute later I hear, “Mama, I’m gonna puke.” And puke she did. Right at the table, into her napkin. OK, now I am worried about two things. 1-my poor carsick girl, and 2- getting quarantined to my room by DCL because they think she has Norwalk. Now I can assure you it wasn’t Norwalk because once she puked she was her old self. All the way to the room she babbled about going to see “Home on the Range” that night. I cleaned her up and we went back to dinner. Lisa had called housekeeping to clean up, but there were no other questions asked. DH had explained about the cab. Redhead is feeling better but BriarPatch is getting loud. I decide to just go back to the room. LeeRoy offers to wrap my food and send it. See, now that is excellent. (Which is what I told him, “That would be excellent, thank you so much.”)
I spend the rest of the evening trying to convince Redhead we would see “Home on the Range” another time. I am not chancing her puking in the theatre. (We had seen a boy do that the second night and then later some people sat on those seats. EEEWWW!) Grandma took Luc and Braelynn and she wasn’t impressed, but Braelynn liked it.
That night I shared my bed with Redhead and BriarPatch. Shawn took the pull out coach and Grandma took the other two to her room.
Tomorrow is our day at sea and semi-formal night.
to be continued……

Melissa,

Your reports are so great. I don't know how you do it. I think my two girls are a handful. But I will tell you this, I noticed your children in the hallways serveral times and they are very well mannered and well behaved kids. I would love to take a crusie with you again.

Thank you for your kind words. I don't know how we manage some days but this is my dream come true. Mommy to 4 beautiful kids. My house may not be perfect and my laundry may pile up, but we must be doing something right to receive wonderful compliments like yours. I sure hope we manage to bump into each other before the Nov 2005 cruise. Say hi to your gang for us.
Melissa
PS- You know what I miss almost as much as being on the Magic? "Talking" everyday to the great people on our cruise meets thread.

I'm really enjoying your report! I have a silly question about the suriel bath. Do they take you in a room and give you a robe and stuff before you enter the suriel room? I know you can do "whatever" you want, but do you wear a bathing suit, or just the robe? We are doing this on our next cruise and can't wait!!! Are the showers and steam scented?

They give you and your hubby each a basket with a robe and a locker key. You each go to the dressing rooms first and don your robe and stow your personal items. Then you meet the staff member in the hall and they show you to the bath, give you instructions and leave. We both wore bathing suits under our robes to the room. We were going to go to the Rainforest room after but didn't. I don't believe the steam was scented, I think it was just "regular" steam.
I'm glad you are enjoying the reports, I am having fun recalling our trip. Have fun on your cruise. Enjoy every second, it goes by too fast.
If you have any other questions, fire away.
