It depends on your child. Sorry I can't help more.
We took our 4 year old grandson and he loved every minute of it. He was picked to go up on stage and he had a blast.
I am sure the little ones do not get the jokes, but they enjoy the singing and dancing and all the activity.
Maybe someone else has better opinion.

In 2006 I went to the HDDR with my nieces and they were 3 and 4 at that time. They loved it. Like the pp said they didn't necessarily get the jokes but they enjoyed the music, laughter, food, etc.

We've taken our dd since she was 4 and she loves it (she's 9 now). Lots of singing and clapping and her favorite part is playing the washboards. My only complaint is it's always freezing in there so if you go take a jacket. They will also bring you kid friendly food.

We had our granddaughter along for our December 2010 trip and attended the HDDR, she was 13 months and laughed and giggle thru the entire show right up to the end and then fell asleep.....she ate....clapped and got into the merriment with no problems.....we attended the early show......though she will never remember any of it, we have the pictures for when she gets older...her first trip to WDW.....You'd be surprised at what a tot can enjoy!

My DS3 loved it when we went last month. We happened to be sitting right next to the piano player and banjo player so that provided some added excitement. But regardless of our seating, he was clapping and laughing along with everyone else and even played the washboard at the end. If your 3yo likes singing, dancing and music, he/she will likely like this.

Our daughter turned three on our trip and she loved it. She still remembers that her Papa Fred was called on to do the "Toot toot" and she tells everyone that she played the washboard with a spoon. We are rednecks and very much Hee Haw type people so keep that in mind. We ALL loved the songs, show, and fun. Side note though--DH and FIL asked for another beer (maybe number 3 or 4) and the server said, "Really?" Neither were drunk by any means; they are just old-school German guys that can put back a few. I didn't know it happened at the time, DH mentioned it when we were talking about it the other day. LOL!
