This will be my third attempt at doing a trip report, I have had good intentions before but always fade out.. I am doing it mostly to be able to remember what happened when, I am in the process of trying to scrapbook the pictures of past trips and lots of details are blurry. Was this the trip Lexi was obsessed with Belle? Was that the time Map Man pushed the button on the rental car clear though the dashboard? Did we stay at CBR or POR? Was that the time I got lost at Spectro magic? (I wasnt lost I just couldnt find my peeps.) We have been to WDW quite a lot for people who have to fly from Maine. I have lost count, truth be told, but I believe this is going to be the 12th trip in 8 years. We had one year with 3 times in it. Weve done lots of different things stayed a various resorts and even once or twice- gasp- stayed off site! I cant hope to compete with the likes of ZZUB of Mel HappyHaunt, but well see how it goes.
Cast
Me- Melissa - I love WDW, planning trips, reading about other peoples trips and letting other people come on my trips as long as I am in charge. A key thing about me is people seem to expect me to be in charge and thats ok with me.
DH- Darin -I call him Map Man- he has an excellent sense of direction and never gets lost, always drives ( I hate to drive and am not the best at it.) he loves planning trips but hates to part with money. He also has freakishly strong fingers and isnt allowed to push buttons.
DD -10 - Lexi AKA Mouth all Mighty- She is very talkative, can be rude with out meaning to be, she has no filter sometimes. She loves WDW and Mickey (they have the same b day.) She is very smart, quite pretty and an only child. Shes a lot of work! But I wouldnt trade her for anything.
DC- Boots, Sock and a Shoe Thats his whole name. We just call him Boots. He came named that, but he doesnt have 4 white boots, he has 2 and a sock and a shoe so we adjusted for accuracy. AKA Mummas special boy, we adopted him from an old lady who had to move away. he is gray and white and loves to show his belly and kill things and bring them in the house. He is very smart, quite pretty and an only cat. Hes a lot of work! But I wouldnt trade him for anything either.
Supporting characters: They will be visiting with us for 2 days during our trip.
Grandma - Barbara-70 something . She met up with a man while visiting her cousin in FL a few years ago, He, as it turns out was from Maine too and now they are engaged. They spend the winter in Florida and summer in Maine. They are engaged but are never getting married. It just makes them feel better about the cohabitation I guess. I feel it was very grown up of me not to throw it in her face how SHE reacted when I announced I was engaged and we were going to live together until the wedding. But thats all in the past, I am very happy for her. She is having the time of her life, traveling around with her Smoopy as we like to refer to him.
ED - AKA My new dad or Smoopy. I just say the dad thing to wind my sister up- our dad died 10 years ago and she didnt take my moms new life too well, not b/c of my real dads memory or because she doesnt like Ed- she just has trouble with change and my mom not being home for Christmas about put her over the edge. She is closer to the edge than many of us because she has 7 year old twins, one of whom is autistic. Eds a great guy and makes my mom very happy.
We are about two weeks out from our trip, and everyone is behaving as expected. Map Man always goes a little mental before a trip, he gets all crazy eyed and runs his hands though his hair and says how he has so much to do and how overwhelming it all is, and then theres the whole money issue, he like Scrooge Mcduck likes to Mise his money. He thinks about his money a lot. I think about spending his money a lot. It all works out.
I used to get really annoyed by this pre trip crazy spell, but now I just roll with it. He has also started announcing when it will be starting He is having some trouble with his mental routine b/c he recently shaved his head and now he has no hair to pull on, I dont think just feeling his head is quite the same for him. I am busy trying to get work caught up before I go, it is even worse this time, because I have been procrastinating writing a grant that I MUST have done before we go. I am also on my perpetual pre trip search for some magic shorts or a tan that will make me look thinner. I may have found the tan this time, but the shorts well that is a problem. Redheads have many good points, just ask Bruce Springsteen or any man married to one. We are fun. But we dont tan and people look better tan if you ask me, especially in a warm climate, I finally bit the bullet, and tried spray tanning, the booth not the person spraying you with an airbrush gun while youre naked kind, and I am pretty happy with it so at least that is coming along. We will be leaving May 5th for 6 nights at POFQ and the Pirate and Princess Party. We are usually pretty commando about things even when we try not to be. I love early entry and the thought of sleeping in makes me hyperventilate. Fortunately we are all like this so no one is suffering when it is just my family. When people go with us I just tell them what to expect and they can do it or not. Works for us. BUT this time we need a rest, Mouth did a competitive cheering team this year that just finished. The weeks before nationals were very exhausting and intense for all of us. It isnt easy being the parents of a super competitive perfectionist. Nationals are over and we all need a break from work, practice, school, life! So this time I swear to you my fellow DISers, we will take it easy and have down time. Ill let you know when I get back if I kept my promise!
