Not many pics in thie report....sorry...we took mostly video of new years eve
So it's now 6pm and we are back in the park. Now I read years ago that the best place in WDW to watch parades and fireworks is from mainstreet station as you are out of the way of the crowds. Now I have always found this successful on trips to WDW so thought I would try it out for DLP. The dream parade had just started so we walked up the steps to the station and....no crowds!!! perfect view
I would highly recommend this as straight after the parade the crowds surge and people start pushing and things get unpleasent...if you are in the station however you can hop on the train and get whisked away from it all
which is precisely what we did
of course watching from above means you don't get to interact with the characters which was ok for us as we had no kids but perhaps not so great for those that wish to say hello to their fav characters.
We stayed on the train and went around the whole track, having noticed that frontier land was quite quiet we stayed on the train untill we reached this stop again. Off we got and off we went to BTM the que was massive and I didn't want to miss candlabration so we walked around for a bit and then headed back to the castle. We got an unusual spot just outside the entrance to frontierland..but it wasn't crowded we could sit on the rails and had a great view of the stage and the castle
I sat and filmed/watched the show whilst Simon went off for food and drink. He was very quick...he found the 'hidden' coffee sellers down the side of mainstreet which was a pleasent suprise as was the hot chocolate and mikey shaped briouche that he returned with...yum yum!!!!! He came back just in time to watch the castle get all lit up
we stopped here for a while and enjoyed the atmosphere
Then we went for a walk around fantasyland. The que times were very short for most of the rides here so went went on the snow white ride which was nice. Then we rode the pinochio ride which I thought was really really good
After this we strolled round belles christmas village which smelt gorgeous
lots of nice things here
We then walked over to discovery land...
the park was getting very busy at this point, and Simons back was really hurting him and I was really cold so we went into the hyperion...we couldn't get a seat so sat on the stairs so simon could rest his back and I could warm up. We then decided to squeeze in another ride before the celebrations.....we went over to autopia...simon was keen to ride this one I wasn't. He assured me I would love it. and I did it was great fun
but the que wasn't
very long.......and very very very cold!!!!!
we walked back up to the castle but they had begun to rope it off so we got a bit stuck...we took the opportunity to take a photo of mainstreet from the castle
We were dead on our feet at this point and were really wanting our beds!!!! (we had been up now for over 36 hrs!!! with a couple of naps thrown in here and there!) so we decided at this point to get to mainstreet station to watch the fireworks so that we would be close to the exit as soon as they were over.
As we walked down through mainstreet we started to feel really excited.....people were standing around...dancing (There was really loud pop music and the castle was a big old light show in time with the music it was great!!!) It was sholder to sholder but people were being polite and having a good time...champagne was being sold...it was a really cool atmosphere.
We made it to the station and got ourselves a good spot with a good view of the castle.
now heres were we had our first and last experience of rudeness and general stupidity. Fortunately we were not involved it was people around us but it did dampen our spirits somewhat. We were sat on the que railings facing out down main street. Others were stood infront leaning against the railings. We could all see it was fine. Another family came along two little kids mum and dad. Dad picked up each kid quite firmly and stood them on the railings one next to me and one next to simon. This was fine. I asked if they wanted us to move down so they could be together, but they didn't respond..maybe they didn't understand?????
all was fine...we were all anticipating the arrival of 2008.
The mum and dad lit up and started smoking...a pet hate of mine but the smoke was blowing away from me so fine. However the mum was blowing hers into the face of another gentlemen. He kept huffing and puffing and gesturing that he didn't like it but she didn't stop. This man then pushed her away gesturing that he didn't like the smoke and told her to 'F' off. She started shouting at him and then her husband joined in and started intimadating the whole family!!!!! He stood really close to them and kept blowing his smoke at the man, his wife and their kids!!!! How rude and imature!!!!
I would have said something to stop them from doing this as I was shocked...however he was huge this guy and stank of booze!!!!!! so I thought better of it. It made me angry though
such a shame.
Anyway the countdown began...we all joined in and the fireworks lit up over the castle
they were really good but spoilt a bit by the fog
We then left with the rest of the crowds and walked back to the hotel (we got lost along the way some how which was quite funny looking back) We then crashed in our hotel room. We cracked open a bottle of champagne we bought from home when the clock stroke 12 english time and celebrated the new year together with a glass of bubbly and huggs
It was great I loved it and would definately reccomend it to everyone!!!
I would love to go again
So that is now 22 hrs in DLP area and 16hrs spent in the parks !!!
My next report will talk about new years day...and how a 7am breakfast reservation is really not a good idea after seeing the new year in!!!!
Thanks for reading
