......................

I have never heard of a sit-down dinner for a baby shower!

Sounds as though she did it the first time around and now feels obligated to do it for the other two.

I personally would not buy a more expensive gift. IMO, just cake is appropriate at a shower.

I have been to sit-down dinner showers, but feel a shower at home is just as nice. But since this relative did the same for her other children I guess it's not that unusual. I also don't feel the mom should be throwing the shower. Friends and other relatives probably should. IMO:D

I've been to sit down showers, but not as extravagant as you describe! We had one at a Sizzler, one at a Chinese restaurant, one at an Italian restaurant, and one at a Japanese restaurant, but all were $15 and under for the meal, and were very casual.

I've also been to showers in restaurants, but nothing like that. I agree with your reasoning that it would be better to save the money for something really big, like a wedding. A baby is a big deal, but the shower isn't a huge part of it. I didn't even make it to my shower. It was supposed to be this Saturday. :)

LOL, Kermit! I hope they are still throwing it for you...only with 1 more guest on the list. ;)

I have never heard of this elaborate of a baby shower. I wonder if she's not thinking they will get married and this is in a way "in place of" or something. I would give the same gift you would give not matter where the shower was held.
