We will be leaving next week and was wondering if everyone puts their toothpaste and deodorants in the 311 bag when flying?

Toothpaste has to be in the bag. Deodorants depends on type - solid (no) versus gel or roll-on (yes). Do they make roll-on anymore?

Toothpaste always. Deodorant it depends. 311 is for anything liquid or gel. I save space because contacts and contact solution do not have to go in the 311 bag as they are considered medical supplies you just have to declare you have it and can keep it in a separate bag.

Anything liquid or aerosol has to go into the 3-1-1 bag. It must be a quart size bag that can be sealed (ziplock type or zipper). Each person gets 1 bag. Medical liquids like contact lens solution, cough syrup, can go in a separate baggie. Each item must be 100ml (3.4 ounces) or less. A larger size half used is not allowed (i.e., a 6 oz toothpaste almost empty). Lipstick is ok outside baggie; lip gloss must go in baggie. liquid eyeliner in baggie, pencil eyeliner outside baggie.

I put my contact solution in my 311 bag, but I also don't carry on toiletries so space isn't an issue.

Liquids, creams, gels, pastes.... go in the baggie.
Toothpaste would be included in that.
I use a gel deodorant so for me yes it goes in the baggie.
If you use a solid then it wouldn't.

And remember everything has to be in containers that are 100ml or smaller. No full-sized toothpaste in the baggie. Not even if it's mostly empty.

I don't put my stick deodorant in the baggie.

Funny story about deodorant and a 3-1-1 bag. I was flying out of London City airport (connecting from SFO to Amsterdam) and England's version of TSA goes through my carry-on and snags my solid deodorant, saying it must go in the 3-1-1 bag (our 3-1-1- bags were full, as we were doing carry-on only). I protested it was a solid stick deodorant and it was exempt. His response? You can melt it down into a liquid, so it has to go in the bag! I had to thrown away my Downey Wrinkle release so it could fit into the bag. I wanted to smart-mouth the guy, saying what about my husband's chocolate bars. You can melt those too, but my husband would have killed me. He is English and dislikes our chocolate, and had just gone out of his way to buy his favorite brand of English chocolate. But i held my tongue and didn't argue with the moron--he could have delayed us long enough to miss our flight, and even put me on a no-fly list. Absolutely not worth it. But it makes a funny story.

Yours is the story I read and made me start wondering about the deodorant.
