Hello, can anyone tell me which would be better? I have never used one. I am planning to try one at a local store, but haven't been out to do so yet. Any info would be great!

It depends on your comfort level. I personally like the 3 wheeled version. I like the way it turns pretty sharp and that I have room to stretch my legs out in the front. Others prefer the 4 wheeled one because they don't feel it is as tippy. I have never found my scooter to be tippy at all, and I have used it in places it is never meant to go.

Same here. :thumbsup2

The 3-wheel scooter is most commonly rented. I have my own personal 3-wheel scooter. Your local store's scooter will be an enormous thing, slow as molasses and 4-wheeled. It won't help you decide on a 3- or 4-wheel scooter. But it will help you to get used to operating a scooter. Practice on it backing up, turning corners, etc. I think the main reason a person would rent a 4-wheel scooter is based on their weight. Heavy people can need the 4-wheel scooter for added stability.

Anyway, whatever you rent, if you are scooting on a sidewalk and looking to access a ramp to get down onto the roadway, don't go down the ramp at a diagonal from your sidewalk path. Approach the ramp straight-on, and go down the middle of the ramp. Going down the ramp at an angle could tip the scooter. Not for sure, but be cautious. Same goes for any ramp, or any turn that is banked.

Good luck to you. Scooter people have great access at WDW. Don't be afraid to use the Disney Buses and the Monorail. First time you may be nervous, but by the 2nd-3rd time, you will be an old pro. Then again, if you are really nervous about it, a travel partner can help with that while you watch. It's all good! Have a great trip, and Good Luck! :)

A lot of people love 3-wheeled scooters. I think the main two things that make a difference are weight and your core stability/sense of your body.

When I could use a scooter (now I need a powerchair), I used one that was technically 4-wheels, but the two front wheels were so close together that it was practically 3-wheeled. It was also a travel-scooter type scooter. I tipped it several times because I have no sense of where my body is in space as part of my impairment so would end up leaning to one side and managing to tip the scooter with me. Generally, I wouldn't have even been aware I was leaning until I'd tipped. So it's worth thinking about your core stability and core control when you make the decision between 3 wheels and 4.

Thank you so much for your replies.. I reserved a 3 wheel scooter. I am hoping my childhoods filled with riding quads and trikes will have prepared me?
I am hoping that I will recover enough (stress fracture and severe bone bruise on my knee cap) but the outlook is bot good. I went out to dinner with friends tonight and I am so sore. 18 days left to recover! I am praying!

For most people the three-wheel is more comfortable. Since the front wheel is in the center, this gives a lot of choice as to what to do with your feet and legs. Due to the outboard wheel locations on the four-wheel your foot placement choices are much more restricted.

However, if you need to keep your legs (sort of) elevated or straight out you can rest them over the wheels on the four.

The three is much easier to maneuver than a four.
