3 Surprising Things About Working at Mission: SPACE

"Code V" - ugh. I feel your pain, Dustin.

I rode Team Orange once and Team Green twice. I really wanted to like Team Orange. I LOVED the sensation of being pulled back in my seat, and the weightless feeling that followed. But the nausea that came directly afterwards stayed with me for an entire hour. I did not, how did you put it, eject any protein, but it was not a feeling I'd like to repeat.

I'll stick to Green from now on.

Mission: Space has always been one of those rides I'd like to see backstage as when I first heard about it I couldn't understand how it worked!

Have only ridden the green side - whilst I don't usually get motion sickness I'd hate to feel nauseous afterwards!

I rode Mission: SPACE when it first opened, so there was no "Orange" or "Green" option. It was all the full-on spinning. Most advice I'd heard said "Don't move your head. If you move your head, you'll get sick". I was SO focused on not moving my head that I really wasn't able to enjoy the ride or the sensations. So I went back when they opened the "Green" option. Still didn't like it, so I've never been back.

That said, it's a very cool idea for those who can tolerate it.

Sayhello

i posted this in the wrong place, so posting again :p

thanks for the blog! very interesting!

we LOVE mission space! everything about it, including the game at the end (in the waiting area)..

DS is the only one of us who can ride the 'real' ride...the rest of us are on the wimpy side, but think it's fantastic there as well!!

as for the wimpiness of the wimpy side, two years ago, when i was at WDW on my own (for a conference), i happened to be put with two women who had never ridden it before...
the moment the panel came forward, one of the women started screaming....really...screaming....."let me out"....well they didn't let her out...
what happens "when nobody can hear you scream"....
i tried calming her....after a little while she finally settled down, but i somehow doubt she actually enjoyed it....

anyway, it's a very cleverly scripted ride, both in the lead up to the ride and the ride itself...

What an interesting article! DH and I went to WDW for the first time last June. The big question, of course, was which side should we ride? We decide to try orange on our first ride. I did what they said about not closing eyes and watching the screen and I thought it was really fun and was amazed at how real it felt. DH did not get nauseated but didn't like the pressure it put on his chest and said it made him feel generally not good. So that was the last time we went on orange.

We rode green a zillion times over our stay (almost walk on) and we both really enjoyed it and I thought it was pretty fun too. On both sides I was grateful for the air blowing. I think that makes you feel like you aren't really stuck in a little box.
Loved that ride and loved reading behind the scenes about it!

My wife gets motion sickness very easily, but a solution to this (at least for a plane ride or long hours in a car) has been Sea Bands. They are just little, elastic wrist things with plastic nubs to push on pressure points on the inside of your wrist. She swears by them. I got her to go on Green and there weren't any "protein" problems!

aren't they amazing!!! My daughter and I use them too - on ships/planes and just during regular times when we get dizzy...they're magic!!! :)
