Today was the day we really started our road trip so we were up and packed quite early. After brekkie at Knuckles we drove to Lombard Street just to get some piccies as we missed it the previous days. First we went to the top to look down.
Then we drove down and looked back up. It really is a very well maintained street with all the lovely flowers
After the piccies had been taken we got in the jeep and drove back towards Fisherman's Wharf and along the Embarcadero towards the Oakland Bay Bridge. We drove passed the financial district and the Transamerica spire.
Before heading Eastwards over the bridge towards Oakland. This was quite an experience as the other day we had been on the top deck and now we were on the lower deck.
Once out past Oakland it was off towards Sacramento and here we found the open road.
But soon that started to change and within 3 hours we were up in the mountains.
Although the scenery was lovely we were now running with about 20 miles left showing in the tank and we didn't know where the next gas station was! The last one we saw was some 50 miles back and it didn't state it was 'The last gas for x miles' as they often do! Fortunately about 5 miles down the road we found a small gas station with a convenience store so filled the jeep up grabbed a drink and headed off again. Soon we could see Tahoe down in the distance.
We arrived shortly after 2.30pm at the Station House Inn.
At check in we found our room was already and waiting for us.
As we had booked a suite with whirlpool it was a large room but the decor was a bit dated!! After unpacking we headed off for a swim, in the hotel pool, which was lovely and cooling after the drive.
After showering we headed off to have a nose around the area and find a Thai restaurant recommended by the guidebook. We drove along the lakeside admiring the scenery and soon found the Thai restaurant which was quite busy even at 6pm! We had a lovely meal but forgot to take any piccies
As it was starting to get dark we had a quick drive around and ended up at the bottom of a ski slope but it had a lovely view down towards the lake.
We soon got back to the hotel and discussed the following days plans which included a drive to Emerald Bay, before falling asleep.
