Day 2
Relaxing at the Pool???

We’ve learned from past trips that taking it easy at the resort is a definite must! While we all know Disney has fabulous parks, their resorts offer a different kind of fun…a more relaxing, easy-going kind of fun day.

The Meadow Swimming Pool is a quick trip by golf cart or an 8-10 minute walk. Not sure about the bus…didn’t try that mode of transportation.

We arrived around 10ish, so we basically had our choice of chairs. And the first thing the kids spot…the waterslide! :woohoo:

Jesse positioned his goggles just so, and off he went! Not sure why he insisted on wearing goggles…the entire time!

The kids thoroughly enjoyed this slide!! Much more than the Wilderness Lodge slide, believe it or not. Stephen said it was super slow. And Jesse and Faith concurred …the Fort slide is much faster!

I can’t tell you how many times they went up…then slid down. Then went back up…then slid back down! Watching them made me tired...

The kids were begging for us to give it a try. Why not, right?! It didn’t look that fast…

And it wasn’t. Not super slow…but not lightning speed either. Didn’t even get my hair wet. So, MaHopied decided she would give it a whirl.

And here she comes folks!:yay:

….and there she goes :wave2: ....completely under water! How in the world did that happen??!! I still don’t know! The kids were cracking up laughing :rotfl: Luckily MaHopie's a good sport.

Jesse was still small enough to go in the splash area. However, I did tell him that when tiny children came in, they had to leave….and they did. But in the meantime, he had a ball!

And notice the goggles….they don’t come off!

Since we were 2 seconds from the cabin, we went back for lunch and ate sandwiches… gets us out of the sun and heat, and a bit cheaper, too. But don’t think we were done with the pool….

After lunch, they have pool games – anyone can participate! They started with a little hula-hooping…

Then it was time for some water relays!

They divided the group into two teams. It just so happened that they split the teams right between Stephen and Faith. So guess who gets to go head-to-head??!!

After more games, swimming, and sliding, the kids were tired!!!! Can you tell??

Time to head back to the cabin and completely chill.

Up next….going to Downtown Disney for dinner at House of Blues!!!

Looks like a fun time @ the pool! :thumbsup2 And I really love that you & your mom just jump in & have fun with the kids!

WHAT??!! :scared1:  Are you really gonna keep us in suspense with that "ticker"??!!! popcorn:: Can you give us a hint? :teeth:

Ok, dates are finalized (I think). Check out the new ticker..........

Heather What a fun day at the pool!!! And a similar incident happened to me at the WL pool  I never do slides..luckily DH was there to help me not freak out :lmao:

Amanda Love the new ticker girl!:dance3:

The Fort is so pretty. We did the HDDR one year but it was raining so we didn't get to look around much. The pool looks like a lot of fun. The Fort is on my list and I almost booked the last few days of our trip there. We really loved POR but I think a couple of relaxing days at the Fort would have been nice. Disney has too many choices just an excuse to plan another trip.

Hi Heather! Back to get all caught up - I need more DIS time!!!!

I am so excited to stay at WL. We went there for the first time last summer for dinner, and we both totally fell in love with it.

Loved all the cabin pictures! I would love to stay in one of those at some point. It seems so fun and relaxing.

I always think Trails End seems like a fun place to eat. Sorry the food was not as good as in years past though. :(

Oh-oh-oh! I squealed when I saw the title of the Campfire post - I am SO hoping to do that next summer!!!! I am so thrilled to read that it is as much fun as I have always thought it would be. I can’t wait!!!

I love your early-morning pictures - it is so beautiful there. Good grief - even the campsites look super-nice, and I am NOT a camper!

Oh, the day of pool fun just sounds heavenly. I love the way y’all always make time to really enjoy the resort. I have vowed to do better at that from now on. ::yes::

Im in for your trip report! How nice to go from camping to club level! I could totally do those cabins at WDW- they look so nice! anywhere else, I don't camp! Haha!

Can't wait for the rest!

Looks like a fun time @ the pool! :thumbsup2 And I really love that you & your mom just jump in & have fun with the kids!

Ya know, those are the times that are so special....making memories and just being silly with them :goodvibes

Ok, dates are finalized (I think). Check out the new ticker..........

WHAT??!!! :scared1: :worship: No way!!! I'm so jealous. How awesome is that trip gonna be?!! Which hotel are you doing? How many days?? Are you going anywhere else in the area?? I'm full of questions popcorn::

Very happy for y'all, too!!! Enjoy the planning!!!

God bless MaHopie! Such a sport!

:rotfl: Yes she is!! That's what keeps her young.

Heather What a fun day at the pool!!! And a similar incident happened to me at the WL pool  I never do slides..luckily DH was there to help me not freak out :lmao:

Oh no....you took a nose dive, too???!! I guess Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach slides are out of the question then???:rolleyes1

POR is awesome, too. Bill and I were just talking about how much we enjoyed that one....probably because the atmosphere is so inviting. We were also discussing doing our "relaxing" resort at the end of the trip, too, instead of the beginning. Probably makes more sense

Hi Heather! Back to get all caught up - I need more DIS time!!!!

No kidding!!!!!

I am so excited to stay at WL. We went there for the first time last summer for dinner, and we both totally fell in love with it.

Room or villa?? The next trip??

Willow would probably enjoy staying there, renting a golf cart, and doing the Sing-along :thumbsup2 I'm not much of a camper either  Of course if I owned one of those super nice RVs, then I think I could survive ;)

Im in for your trip report! How nice to go from camping to club level! I could totally do those cabins at WDW- they look so nice! anywhere else, I don't camp! Haha!

Can't wait for the rest!

:wave2: Thanks for stopping by! The hubby likes to camp...me, not so much  Unless, of course, he wants to purchase a 5th wheel or RV...then I could "camp" :thumbsup2

Love that you spent the day relaxing at the pool. Not enough people do that and end up more tired than they arrived.

Dinner sounds intriguing popcorn::

Hi Heather!

Found you! I am caught up. I originally was just waiting for the WL portion of your trip but FW looks like so much fun too. I totally want to rearrange some of my plans to go and spend some time there when we go in November especially since we can use the pool.

I love all the pictures! My parents travel to Disney with us too. Such a great place to make memories with your family. Looking forward to the next post.

Thanks! We are very excited to have a new Disney adventure ahead of us next year. Though, I am a bit overwhelmed and unsure as to whether or not we made the right choice.

Not completely sure about the hotel yet. It'll be one of Disney's hotels though. I know people say you don't really need to stay "on-site" @ DLR but Ed & I decided we wanted to anyway since this may be a one time only trip out there.

We're going to do a Saturday to Saturday trip. Right now, our dates are May 30th-June 6th. Thinking we'll do 4 or 5 days of the DLR parks. We are going to do one day @ Legoland for Reid since I can't work Legoland Florida into our Oct trip. And then I think we're going to also take one day to go to the San Diego Zoo.

Of course, as always, this is all subject to change. :lmao:

Heather, I am loving your trip report! We will be booking our first trip to Disney World as soon as the prices come out for next June! We will be staying at the Cabins and your report has made me realize that we should plan our first day (after a 2day drive) just to relax and enjoy the fort and also the last day, to rest and relax before the drive home! I am even more excited now, after seeing your wonderful pictures of the cabins and Fort Wilderness!

Cathy

You are one talented TR writer & photographer! I know this because you are making camping & early mornings sound tempting to me. :rotfl2: i haven't been out to the Fort in probably 20+ years. Might be time for a visit! Do you know if they still do the Haunted Hayride at Halloween & sleigh rides in Dec?

I love my sleep but those peaceful pictures have me thinking I should give it a go one morning.

What a fun day at the pool! I love relaxing at the resort!!!

I'm definitely an advocate of a relaxing day at the pool. For our summer trip last year, exactly halfway through the trip, I scheduled a full blown resort day. The kids absolutely loved it.

The pool looks like a lot of fun, glad you guys had the chance to just relax and take it all in.

Glad you found us ::yes:: :wave2: Y'all should definitely spend some time at the Fort...especially since you can use the pool! The pool has bathrooms and changing rooms, also. And the bike, canoe, fishing and campfire is located right there by the Meadow Pool.

I love all the pictures! My parents travel to Disney with us too. Such a great place to make memories with your family. Looking forward to the next post.

:goodvibes It's the best, isn't it?! My kids love having their grandparents with them!

You definitely made the right choice, Amanda. My parents went last year and really enjoyed it! It's very different, of course, but still a fabulous destination for any Disney lover. They stayed onsight and said they were so glad they did. You won't regret doing that. And like you said, it's not like DL is super close so you might not be back any time soon...make the most of it and go all out :teeth:

Hi Cathy  So happy you joined us!! You're smart to have some relaxing days at the beginning and end:thumbsup2 The cabin will give you extra room to spread out and not feel so confined - it's easy to relax in them. Have fun planning your trip!! And if I can be of any assistance with Fort questions, ask away;)

Aren't you sweet. Thanks:goodvibes And glad I can tempt you a little  They still do both as far as I know. I've never been lucky enough to do either though. The decorations at Halloween and Christmas at the campsites are well worth a visit!

Pool days are a must for us ::yes:: We always say that if you're paying Disney resort prices, you might as well take advantage of what they have to offer
