3 Generations of "Magic" - Our 8-Night NYC Cruise Photo TR - Update 7/9!

No, that photopass card has nothing to do with the ship. If you are going on the 8-night with the stop at port Canaveral then you will receive one of the cards I had pictured to use in the parks. Otherwise no, shutters is not affiliated with photopass and all photos taken on the boat are through shutters not photopass.

Personally, I think it's almost ridiculous at this point the way the photo set up is run - Disney should really just set up a photopass on the boats and be done with it and make it easier for everyone.

Agreed! And thanks for the response.:cool1:

An amazing photo report of your 8-day cruise! Incredible! My wife and I are big Disney fans and sailing on the Magic August 25th. We can't wait and your report increases the anxiety. What type of questions did they ask during the Disney Trivia?

Disney Questions :lmao:
Sorry - I couldn't resist! But they were always different for each round. Sometimes it was classic Disney cartoons or it was questions about what ports the cruises visits, or characters full names (the hardest one of the trip was the 3 cats from the aristocats - no one remembered them), dates of theme park openings and locations, & just a lot of random - this happened in what movie? this person was from what movie? etc.

Just starting to read your TR. Before I got any further though I needed to say how much I LOVE your photos!! They are beautiful! :goodvibes

Going to read the rest now!

Thank you Everyone for the compliments on the photos!
Yes & No. Yes, it's the camera I used, I have a Canon DSLR that I only use in manual mode so I can control the images more in camera so that the only editing I have to do, if any, is just a little adjustment here or there in photoshop, I don't use photobucket editing for anything. I have a bachelors degree in Fine Art with a minor in Photography so it's actually hard for me to shoot things for fun, I get lazy and try to enjoy the vacation then when I get home I get annoyed I didn't take more photos :lmao:

Quick question, I have the same camera and cannot figure out for the LIFE of me how to turn it to manual mode. I like to dabble in photography, but I'm not as fantastic as you are. I'm a pastry Chef so I LOVE your food pictures. :cheer2:

Thank you! So glad your reading along - stick around a few more weeks and I'll have another cruise report for ya too :lmao:

The Manual Mode is the M on the turning dial - I'd suggest before just jumping into Manual test out AV or TV. AV lets you control the apperature setting and the camera auto adjusts the iso and speed. The TV lets you control the speed and the camera takes care of the iso and app. It's a good way to learn and start to figure out how app affects speed and vice versa. I hope that made some kind of sense to you. I have a bachelors in fine art with a minor in photo and I'd love to suggest books but in my experience testing and seeing what everything does was way more helpful than reading about it. :goodvibes I'm almost ashamed to admit i've yet to test out the hd video option :sad2: I plan on using it a lot on my next trip coming up though! :thumbsup2

I have LOVED looking at these photos! If you don't mind me asking, which Canon DSLR model is this that you're shooting with? These are stunning!!

You're doing another TR? Excellent! Please post a link here if you do, so those of who who followed along on this one don't miss it! Your pics were awesome. I was on this June 2 cruise as well which is why I started reading.. you're such a great photographer I'd love to read your next one too:goodvibes

I booked the 5-Night Canada Cruise for 9/12 - the last NYC sailing - when they had the really good deals, it was $499 for IGT, $599 for OGT, and $699 for VGT. Me and my boyfriend booked the VGT in July for a last minute trip. He was supposed to go on the 8-night but couldn't get off of work so when I saw the deal and mentioned it to him - he said "book it" - I was rather surprised actually :lmao:

We got out VGT room assignment today! I'm pretty happy with it!
It's a 5B room and is on deck 7 near the aft elevators. I really didn't have any serious preference on the room at all. I thought the idea of a navigators veranda was pretty awesome so I would have been OK with that and I had a regular plexi-glass veranda on our June cruise so I know that would have been great too. The only thing I was hoping we didn't get was a white wall or an obstructed view and we didn't so YAY! Only 13 days left!! :cool1:

Just starting to look at your pictures...which are just fabulous. What lens are you using for food shots. I can never get good ones. Are you using an external flash as well?

and I see you have pictures of tea with Alice. I thought that was just for kids? Can adults only go too? I am sailing the Magic later this month, no kids this time around, but I sure would love to go if I can.

I am using a 28mm f1.8. I did not use an external flash - I am all about natural light. :hippie:

No, there is no age restriction or rule for attending tea with Alice. The tickets are first come first serve so first thing we did when we got on board was snagged them. Yes, it was an incredibly childish activity but when I was younger it wasn't something that was offered and I really just wanted to try it out :rotfl2:
Was I glad I went YES, would I go again without a child NO. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the quick answer. I have been looking at a 10-20mm so tempting. I think I might need to snag those tickets then. At guest services correct? I've done with my DD in 2011 and we have another planned again in Nov with her on the Dream. This one on the Magic will be my 1st 7 nighter.

I brought my 8mm and my 28mm - i've really just grown to love prime lenses esp for travel.

Yes, guest services is where you get the tickets for all events on the magic that require them :goodvibes

My husband and I are also on the 9-12 cruise. It will be interesting to read your trip report for that cruise and compare our experiences.

I also love your photos!

I just booked this cruise leaving out of Galveston in May. My question is on the WDW day, were there different stops the bus made for different parks? We wanted to start off at DHS and make it over to the MK later.

I love all of your pictures, thank you for the report.

You "book" a certain transfer. So you reserve your bus ticket to MK, HS, etc. when your reservation window opens.
