3 Generations! 2 Resorts! 10 Days! DxDp! 3000 Pictures! - Saying Good-Bye!

Before coming to the DIS, I don't think I would've thought that I'd ever make friends with people on a forum. I've been very pleasantly surprised with many of the people I've met on here. I agree, I don't think most people would understand.

I almost forgot to tell y'all this: Last night, Ed just went ahead & submitted the resume he has for a Manufacturing Process Engineer job in Florida. Who is the company? Walt Disney World Theme Parks in Lake Buena Vista, Florida!!! I found the job posting on Disney's careers website & about fell off the couch when I saw it. So, we're praying HARD that he will at least get an interview with them.
.
That is so cool, just applying to Disney......I hope that resume is done SOON. And I totally agree about the DIS. It's the ONLY forum I've made friends on EVER :grouphug:

Hi Heather
Yummy, yummy, yummy. And I am one of those "vintage" chicks too :rotfl2: Can't believe we lost Stephen, at least he had dessert, right?? Too cute (I'm sure he wouldn't want to be referred to as cute....but he is):goodvibes

Glad to see you tried the crab cake, delicious! Poor Stephen, I think we have all felt like that at some point on our trips. Unfortunately it doesn't ever seem to be my kids!

I think I like the term 'vintage', sounds so much better than old. Of course, in my head, the 80's were just a few years ago. It's not until you stop and think about it that you realize how long ago it really was.

Thanks for the 'vintage' photos Heather, it makes me feel good that apparently someone else thought that was a good hairstyle!

We got the resume this morning! :yay: I told Ed to bring it home at lunch so I can take at look at what we paid for. He says it looks great.

Well, the job he applied for at Disney last week has already been filled - or at least I'm assuming it has been because the job listing is no longer on their site. But, he has applied for 4 more jobs with Disney. I would LOVE it - but I know that it's a long shot.

He has TONS of other jobs that he is submitting his resume for. It will probably take him most of the day to get it submitted to all of the jobs we have written down. Plus he has 2 recruiters looking out for him.

Again, thank you all for the support and/or prayers. :grouphug:

Poor Stephen...he's my night owl. He literally was sound asleep:confused3

Speaking of vintage....I'm working on the 1983 pics now. The tube socks and men's short-shorts crack me up!!! I guess 25 years from now, my kids will be looking back at this TR and saying..."good grief, mom!! Seriously??!!"

By the way....your trip is getting closer and closer. As if you didn't know that, right?!

:lmao: good hairstyle??? If that's what you want to call it:laughing: In the deep south, we refer to that stylish cut as a "mullet"....my sister would be sporting the stylish "bowl". One word for ya....HIDEOUS!

And Christine....your trip is closer than Princes Pas!!! 1 week:dance3: We leave Thursday for FL, but not Disney....New Symrna Beach. Hope you have started packing...at least a little;)

:dance3::woohoo::yay: Glad the resume is back and being put to good use!!! You sound very positive, Amanda....that's great! Please let us know what happens. Good things come to those who wait;):thumbsup2

:dance3::woohoo::yay: Glad the resume is back and being put to good use!!!

Me too! :thumbsup2

You sound very positive, Amanda....that's great!

Thanks...it's hard sometimes, but I'm trying my best to stay positive.

Please let us know what happens.

I sure will...I'm very appreciate of y'alls support. BTW...one of the (numerous) companies that now officially has Ed's resume is Georgia Pacific. He also applied for an opening with GulfStream - thanks for telling me about that company.

Good things come to those who wait;):thumbsup2

That's what I keep telling myself. I hope we're both right!

Oh, your Citricos meal looks amazing!! Especially those appetizers - I wish I had any one of them right now. :lovestruc How wonderful that even a restaurant like that can manage to be kid-friendly. Love Disney!

Ya know...I've had the same issue with the whole resort thing. My husband tells me it's silly and ridiculous, but he'll be the first to say that he needs a queen bed. Several of the mods have queens now...POR, POFQ, CSR...could be more. I bet your DD would like the new princess rooms at Port Orleans. I've actually looked at those 3 resorts over, and over, and over again. I'll tell ya, too, that our friends who go to WDW all the time LOVE the POP. They say it's not like the other values....might be something to check into. And honestly, if we needed to save money, I would go to any resort at Disney.

I didn't realize your boss went by herself! Wow! I bet she did get lots accomplished without kids and extra people tagging along. You're so right about it being a different experience...no early morning, late nights, no long lines for character meet n greets Maybe next time she'll take you

Yeah I think I could do one of the mods, especially when Willow gets older (right now, the luxury of being able to stay up after she goes to bed by moving to another room feels like a necessity ). Not sure about the values, but I'll be willing to give one a shot if it means we can make a trip we otherwise couldn't!

My boss is still flying high from her trip. She is already trying to figure out when she can go back. I love it!

:woohoo: Sounds very promising

By the way....your trip is getting closer and closer. As if you didn't know that, right?!

30 days.....and DH still isn't settled on a resort. I am POLY, he picked Poly, I think the RC bug jumped off me and onto him :lmao:

Heather - I am at my desk eating lunch while catching up on your TR and somehow my McDonald's side salad doesn't quite measure up to your salad from Citrico's!
That looks like a great dinner and nice atmosphere.
The servers at Disney are great - they really add that special something to your meal that you'll remember.
Keep the updates coming:thumbsup2

Amanda,
Good luck to your DH on his job search - my fingers are crossed for your family! Here are some :grouphug: from WV!

There are tons of nice people on the DIS boards.
I know my DH thinks I'm nuts because I'll mention people's TR's and he's probably thinking - "you've never met these people, you probably never will, and you're talking about them like you just hung up the phone with them" - :rotfl2:
Oh, well - my DD (13) gets it better than him, so most of the time, I'll discuss the TR's with her.

Hope everyone has a magical day!
Amy

We do think it's pretty promising....hopefully it won't take too terribly long for him to get something else.

Thank you so much, Amy!

I've really enjoyed getting to know so many nice people here on the DIS. I think it's hard for people to understand if they aren't part of this type of forum community. My husband is slowly starting to get it.....I think. :rolleyes1

Amanda....Georgia Pacific would be a great company to work for as well as Gulf Stream. How about GP is about 10 minutes from our house!...GS about 30 minutes. I'm all for you moving to our kneck of the woods:laughing:...and when I say woods....I'm not kidding!! Keep us posted. I'll have my laptop with me at the beach, I'll be checking to see if there is an update about Ed:thumbsup2

RGirl....did you look at pictures of that princess room?? Bet Willow would LOVE it!!!I know what you mean about needing another room to get away...one good thing about the deluxes...a balcony!!! When Jesse and Faith were still taking naps, the balcony was utilized frequently. Have you thought about renting points and getting a 1 bedroom villa? It's a cheaper...my only problem with renting points is I'm constantly changing my mind:rolleyes1 Works for lots of people, though....many swear by it!

PrincessPas...What in the world????!!! Another change??:scared1: Your trip is only a month away. Has your DH been on the RC thread?? Apparently he has your problem:upsidedow...I'll be waiting to see what happenspopcorn::

Amy....I'm afraid you're right....McDonald's isn't quite Citricos:rotfl: And would you believe my DH ask me, rather frequently, about different people on the Dis?! No kidding! He's a huge lurker....for a while he was lurking around on the RC thread:rotfl: He cracks me up!

We're leaving tomorrow for a mini-vacation! Can't wait!! The condo is supposed to have WiFi, so I'll be able to catch up on all my threads:woohoo: and finish my 'vintage' post!

Back to packing!!
Heather

Well, there is a decent chance that we'll be moving back to Georgia. Ed has been submitting resumes non-stop since yesterday. And a lot of the jobs are in Georgia. He thinks it'll probably take a week or 2 before his resume starts to really get looked over by HR people. So, hopefully, it won't be much longer than that before he starts getting calls. I will definitely keep y'all posted! Just praying this job search doesn't take too long. :sad2:

I haven't seen the princess rooms yet. I will have to Google and see if I can find some pics!

We are actually renting points for a one-bedroom villa this trip! :woohoo: I couldn't afford to do it every time though, and the only way I felt safe doing it was that a DVC-member friend of mine brokered the whole deal and made my ressie. The idea of trusting someone out in the Internet world I didn't know with my money and ressie is too scary! :rotfl:

We probably won't be going again until 2014. I think by then, a deluxe room with a balcony will be just fine for us. ;) Or a princess room.... Or a pirate room.... Or I just buy DVC....

He hasn't hit the DIS...well who knows, maybe :rotfl: I'm done, really. We are at CR TPV now with the discount.

Enjoy your vacation!

If you go to the DVC thread, there is a name of a broker that deals with DVC points....David's Disney Vacation Rentals. You can plug in the times you want, etc. and it will give you a price. You don't actually deal with the person that owns the DVC...from what I've read, you don't have to worry about your ressie being legit.

When you go back in 2014, the New Fantasy Land will be complete!!

Well....I'm looking at your ticker and it now says split stay...CR/YC??!!! The above says just CR:rotfl: Another change??????

So....we are now at New Smyrna Beach....the weather is not cooperating for DH! No fishing for him today or tomorrow. The seas are 5-6 feet today, small craft advisory:headache: I'll have to post a picture of the waves...seas are expected to be 8-9 tomorrow. We do have a gorgeous view from our balcony...beach front! Just glad to get away for a while!!!!

I'm going to try and finish the MK 1983 installment today. Unfortunately, the internet service her is super slow....driving me crazy!!! Thought I was going to be able to catch up on all my threads.... what a joke!

There is no catching up....EVER :rotfl: At least you are away. A bad day on vacation is better than a great day at work :goodvibes That's my motto. Relaxing watching the waves :lovestruc, but bad for DH I agree...

I am surprised my DH didn't take my phone and the laptop away...just saying....I changed again :sad2:

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't mind having a shorter drive to Disney. Believe it or not, even Raleigh, NC is closer to Disney than where we are in south Louisiana! I have to admit that yesterday, I wasn't exactly "Positive Polly". My stress level about this junk was WAY up and, well, I just wasn't really nice to be around. :sad2: Feeling better this morning, however. Really & Truly - thank you for the prayers! :flower3:

I have been super-spoiled by cable internet & no longer have patience for slow internet. :headache: Makes me want to throw the computer thru a window. Enjoy your vacation. We'll all be here ready to view those vintage pics when you can upload them. God, I feel so old referring to the '80s as "vintage".

:lmao: You should go for a world record & see if you can change everyday up until check-in. :lmao: If anyone could do it, I'd put my money on you! I think the RC thread should invest in a tiara for you & name you "Queen of the RCer's". :rotfl2:

There's gotta be someone who changes more than me, right? :lmao:

Maybe not, I actually took Tylenol after my last call, just so overwhelmed. And excited. Really wanted CR, and when I added YC, I lost a night at CR. So the choice was rack rate 1 night :scared1: Or WL CL and save money....no contest

Uh...no....negative. Unless, there is someone out there who calls Disney & changes every 2 1/2 minutes. :lmao:

I can't say I blame you for changing.........again. I do think y'all will like CL @ WL. And if the line for the boat is really long, go hop on a bus to or from MK. The bus trip is shorter than the boat & usually less people on the bus. Although, I would do the boat at least once. Okay, I'm officially clocking you to see how long until you're next change! :rotfl2:

Pas....You're killin' me!! Just this morning you were at one place...now you're at another???!!! Ok....so what's the final decision...WL CL? I'm thinking you might need to hide your laptop/phone from yourself:rolleyes1 What's your DH saying?

Amanda....NC is closer than where you are now?? Really?? That would be a great area, too. And yes...I would like to throw this computer through the window. Just loaded several pictures of the beach to Photobucket and it took FOREVER!!!:sad2: Not sure if I will be able to get this post done or not!

Here are a couple of pictures from early this morning. It's SUPER windy here, but we're still having a nice time. And Pas, you're right....a bad day on vacation is better than a good day at work:laughing:

“A Blast from the Past”
Magic Kingdom 1983

If you’ve been following along on my TR, then you’ve seen the River Country Post from 1983…these next pictures are a continuation of our 1983 summer vacation. As you will quickly notice, our photography skills have much improved since then….or perhaps it’s just the camera we now have!:rolleyes1

On our way to MK, via boat, we were early! Some things never change, right?! ;)

9001.jpg

Thank goodness some things DO change….especially hairstyles and clothes! Not sure why our parents thought this was a good look…:sad2:

10001.jpg

I think this picture was made in Adventure Land by the Tree House….but not positive.

5001.gif

Here’s a popular photo spot….too bad the photographer (aka MaHopie) didn’t know what a zoom lens was:laughing:…..and who is that waving??? Oh yeah….Pop and Stephanie. You might need binoculars to actually see them! I love the great shot of the anonymous woman’s head that prevails in the picture, too…

3001.jpg

Who remembers this parade???!!! Mickey and Friends…or something like that. Amazing how WDW’s parades have progressed and become so much more decorative and detailed.

11001.jpg

7001.jpg

Not exactly sure, but we must have visited MK twice during this trip….my sister and I have on different outfits. Can’t remember that far back….

Take a look at this picture….notice anything different from today’s Main Street? Look closely at the trees in front of the castle. Do you see how big they are? They hide the castle….today, the view of the castle is unobstructed. Not sure if there are any other differences or not….other than the all popular tube socks that the boys loved wearing….

4001.jpg

And who remembers this ride??? Honestly…I don’t remember it at all! No lie….no recollection what-so-ever. But obviously we did it…I have the pictures to prove it!

2001.gif

This is the info I found on the web….

Swan Boats were an attraction at the Magic Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort. It was in operation seasonally between May 20, 1974 till August 1983. It originally took a D ticket. The Swan Boats opened in 1974 and quickly became a popular attraction at Walt Disney World. The boats took guests on a ride around the hub of the Magic Kingdom and the Swiss Family Treehouse. Originally there were 12 boats when the ride opened, but this was reduced to 11 when one of the boats was converted to clean the canals. By the end of the life of the ride, there were only 5 boats operating. The reason for closing was because of the cost to keep the boats running. They constantly had issues with their natural gas engines and guidance system. Originally the guidance was done with an electronic system but was changed to use water propulsion to turn the boat. Eventually the boats were removed and sold.

Now…I DO remember this one, without a doubt!! Even though it was cheesy, I can’t believe they got rid of it.

6001.jpg

More info about 20,000 Leagues for you Disney Dorks…..(taken from the web)

This ride at Disney World opened October 14, 1971, and was one of the original flagship attractions. It had twelve amazing 38 passenger subs, the huge water tank held 11.5 million gallons of water, and it took up 25% of the real estate in Fanastyland. And it's astounding to think that this ride was only a third of the size it was originally planned to be. The ride was abruptly "temporarily closed" for "renovations" on September 5, 1994; which as it turned out was just a nice way to say, "We're shutting down the Best Ride in the World forever. Actually an inside source tells us that at the time it was not in fact intended for the closing to be permanent. Apparently Disney was seeking a corporate sponsor for the ride to raise money for its rehabilitation. It wasn't until early 1996 that it they actually admitted that the ride was closed forever. The tragic shutdown shocked, angered and saddened thousands of people, young and old.

Another castle picture….and if you look closely, there we are waving once again. Glad dad and I finally learned how to get a good picture!!!

20012.jpg

On the way out of the MK, we ran into this guy…..

8001.jpg

Not sure if y’all remember or not, but I can recall some of the characters just walking around MK. I don’t ever remember standing in long lines to get pictures……the character craze now is out of control! Some people wait an hour just to see one!

So….this was our MK Blast from the Past. And isn’t it amazing…. In 1983 we had less than 50 pictures…In 2011…we have 3000!!! :scratchin
