A Blast from the Past
Magic Kingdom 1983
If youve been following along on my TR, then youve seen the River Country Post from 1983
these next pictures are a continuation of our 1983 summer vacation. As you will quickly notice, our photography skills have much improved since then
.or perhaps its just the camera we now have!
On our way to MK, via boat, we were early! Some things never change, right?!
Thank goodness some things DO change
.especially hairstyles and clothes! Not sure why our parents thought this was a good look
I think this picture was made in Adventure Land by the Tree House
.but not positive.
Heres a popular photo spot
.too bad the photographer (aka MaHopie) didnt know what a zoom lens was

..and who is that waving??? Oh yeah
.Pop and Stephanie. You might need binoculars to actually see them! I love the great shot of the anonymous womans head that prevails in the picture, too
Who remembers this parade???!!!
Mickey and Friends
or something like that. Amazing how WDWs parades have progressed and become so much more decorative and detailed.
Not exactly sure, but we must have visited MK twice during this trip
.my sister and I have on different outfits. Cant remember that far back
.
Take a look at this picture
.notice anything different from todays Main Street? Look closely at the trees in front of the castle. Do you see how big they are? They hide the castle
.today, the view of the castle is unobstructed. Not sure if there are any other differences or not
.other than the all popular tube socks that the boys loved wearing
.
And who remembers this ride??? Honestly
I dont remember it at all! No lie
.no recollection what-so-ever. But obviously we did it
I have the pictures to prove it!
This is the info I found on the web
.
Swan Boats were an attraction at the Magic Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort. It was in operation seasonally between May 20, 1974 till August 1983. It originally took a D ticket. The Swan Boats opened in 1974 and quickly became a popular attraction at Walt Disney World. The boats took guests on a ride around the hub of the Magic Kingdom and the Swiss Family Treehouse. Originally there were 12 boats when the ride opened, but this was reduced to 11 when one of the boats was converted to clean the canals. By the end of the life of the ride, there were only 5 boats operating. The reason for closing was because of the cost to keep the boats running. They constantly had issues with their natural gas engines and guidance system. Originally the guidance was done with an electronic system but was changed to use water propulsion to turn the boat. Eventually the boats were removed and sold.
Now
I DO remember this one, without a doubt!! Even though it was cheesy, I cant believe they got rid of it.
More info about 20,000 Leagues for you Disney Dorks
..(taken from the web)
This ride at Disney World opened October 14, 1971, and was one of the original flagship attractions. It had twelve amazing 38 passenger subs, the huge water tank held 11.5 million gallons of water, and it took up 25% of the real estate in Fanastyland. And it's astounding to think that this ride was only a third of the size it was originally planned to be. The ride was abruptly "temporarily closed" for "renovations" on September 5, 1994; which as it turned out was just a nice way to say, "We're shutting down the Best Ride in the World forever. Actually an inside source tells us that at the time it was not in fact intended for the closing to be permanent. Apparently Disney was seeking a corporate sponsor for the ride to raise money for its rehabilitation. It wasn't until early 1996 that it they actually admitted that the ride was closed forever. The tragic shutdown shocked, angered and saddened thousands of people, young and old.
Another castle picture
.and if you look closely, there we are waving once again. Glad dad and I finally learned how to get a good picture!!!
On the way out of the MK, we ran into this guy
..
Not sure if yall remember or not, but I can recall some of the characters just walking around MK. I dont ever remember standing in long lines to get pictures
the character craze now is out of control! Some people wait an hour just to see one!
So
.this was our
MK Blast from the Past. And isnt it amazing
. In 1983 we had less than 50 pictures
In 2011
we have 3000!!!
