3 Generations! 2 Resorts! 10 Days! DxDp! 3000 Pictures! - Saying Good-Bye!

Amanda, I am soooo sorry. IDK how I missed your post yesterday :confused3 How funny if you guys moved to Florida. Thank goodness he found out now, how horrible that he was n't upfront... So much can happen in a year, and prayers to your family you all will be in a better place by then....

Thank you. Don't worry about missing my post...I have a tendency to do that on here as well. Yeah, if we can't stay in Louisiana, Florida would be our 2nd choice. It has the 2 things my family loves most: Mickey Mouse & beaches. I had been having a very bad gut feeling that something like this was going to happen. So, I'm very worried about what's going to happen with Ed finding another job but at the same time, I'm kind of relieved to know for sure when this job ends. I'll be very happy for him to be out of this job & back into his normal field of work (even if that means me going back to work).

Thank you for the prayers for my family. They are very much needed & appreciated.

It sounds like there is a lot of love in your family. You are a good wife (and mommy ;)). This sounds like in the end, a good thing for Ed then. It may just be a rocky road getting there. Best wishes in the job hunt. My DH and I plan on relocating to Fla. But we can't until retirement, I can find a job there, but my DH would never get what he gets here in NJ. Ahhhhh WDW and those beautiful beaches......:worship:

I sure hope you're right. Unfortunately, we got some very bad news yesterday morning regarding Ed's job. Long story short....it looks like he has until October 30th to find something else. It's just a bad situation & has us very upset. He was helping someone (very close to us) start up a business. The concept of the business was terrific. Problem was that the owner wouldn't invest the time or do the things that needed to be done to help get it going. They had discussed timelines of how long it would take, etc., to really get it going. Well, let's just say as of yesterday morning, that timeline was cut in half...with only a 5 week notice! :scared1: And the person wasn't going to tell Ed yet....thankfully I heard thru the grapevine that he planning on shutting it down come Oct 30th & had Ed ask him. And what really makes me mad is that Ed left a stable job with benefits to help this person. He promised Ed benefits but never came thru on any promises. We had to get individual insurance that we pay out of pocket, no 401K, etc. Anyway, we are consumed with job searches over here; looking anywhere from Texas to North Carolina - we just want to stay in the south. I told Ed to get something in Florida. Then, we could get AP's or maybe I could go work for Disney!

Anyway, it's just very stressful over here. Ed told me that whatever happens, he will make my Oct. 2012 trip come to fruition. I love my husband!

Okay, I'm sorry to go on a tirade. It's just been a very tiring & emotional 2 days. Please send prayers and/or pixie dust our way (whichever you prefer). We really need it. Okay, thanks for listening. :flower3:

Sorry to hear of your troubles...tell him to try getting a job at WDW...wonderful benefits etc

Thanks for your support. I need as much as I can get right about now. I am really praying hard that we either stay in Louisiana or get to move to Florida.

Thank you. My son & I would LOVE it if he actually could work for Disney!

Just like I told Amanda, I have a sneaky feeling that you'll be back....numerous times!!! Am I right????!!

Oh, you know you're right! I'm already questioning my recent fiscally-responsible decision to wait until 2014 for our next trip. ;)

BTW, I recently planned my boss's trip to WDW - I wrote up a 25-page document of itineraries and tips, made her resort reservation, and got her some ADRs. She came back next week, and I've never seen her in such a good mood. She can't wait to go back!

Heather,

I will definately let you know how the training goes for the Princess 1/2. Too bad about not being able to do it but, better to have your health than risk it. Plus, you have many miles at WDW to walk in all those future trips you'll take! Our trip is coming up in a couple of weeks and I'm starting to get into the panic mode of "what have I forgotten to do" period. :rolleyes1The reality is really nothing, ADR's were made a long time ago and it's not quite close enough that I can start packing. We still need warm weather clothes to wear at home until then!

Amanda,

Please know that we are all thinking of you and praying for you.:grouphug: As stressful as it is right now, it will all work out for the best in the end. And, we've got a lot of the south covered here in this trip report, so you never know, you might move closer to one of us! I'm in Chattanooga, TN and we've lived here about 10 years. It's a great place to raise a family. But, I know what you mean about staying in the south, I'm moved to the north once and that lasted about a year! Nothing to anyone that lives in the North (I married a Yankee!:scared1:) but it's just really different for us southern girls!

Christine

Heather-thanks again for the great trip reports! I can't wait to hear more about Citricos since DH and I have chosen it for date night during our next trip. I am also excited about our boys trying the Neverland Club based on your review! I think they will have a great time.
I just went back and read your Poly TR and soaked it all up. I was planning a CR stay this time, but DH loves the Poly and wants to go again. It didn't take much convincing for me to give in on that one! ;) Since we've decided against a CL stay this time I am now on a quest to find the perfect longhouse for us. They all have something wonderful to offer so I will change my mind a million times before Jan. Your photos of Fiji really are amazing, but I'm afraid of the loud noise from the Luau and lots of foot traffic. :confused3 Anyway, thanks again for the amazing photos and detailed review.

Amanda, I am new to this thread but wanted to offer some prayers and support. I can feel your pain since we've had considerable changes due to a job loss 2 years ago. It was a rough road to travel, but we made it through stronger! Hang in there. :goodvibes

I wanted to take a moment to, first & foremost, thank Heather for letting me vent on her Trip Report. It's been a pretty bad week & I appreciate her letting me get all of what's going on with us off of my chest. Secondly, I want to say how truly appreciative I am to anyone who has offered my family prayers and/or words of support. In this day & age, we are surrounded by news stories everyday of horrible things people to do to one another. But, there are so many people on the DIS who are truly nice to one another & will selflessly do things for people they've never even met face-to-face. And I think everyone here helps to remind us all that there are still people in the world who truly understand the meaning of empathy. A big thanks to you all! :grouphug:

Christine

Thank you so much, Christine! I do feel in my gut that a job change is going to be best for us. I think I've gotten to the point that now I'm just stressed about how long it will take him to find another job. Praying it won't be long. Funny you mention Chattanooga - that's one place where he has some jobs to submit his resume for. It would definitely be fun to be near a DIS friend(s). We could have Disney planning parties! Like you said, nothing to anyone who lives in the north, but I just know that this southern-born & raised boy & girl could not make it in the north. Thankfully, there's lot of manufacturing in the south (my husband is an engineer & has always been in the manufacturing side of engineering) so we should be able to stay in the south.

Please know that your prayers & support are much appreciated! I do feel that we'll be okay once Ed gets something else. Like you said, it's just the road travelled to get there that can be rocky. I pray our road is very short.

Shhhhhh.....don't say anything about being fiscally-responsible! My DH might read that and get ideas:rotfl:

So....you're a travel agent on the side;) Wasn't it fun planning for her?!! Glad she had a great time.

The week before the trip is always so hetic! Don't you always feel like something is left undone??!! Like you haven't packed the right clothes....or forgotten something of importance! Enjoy the preparations of packing and getting ready for vacation.

My sister married a 'yankee', too:laughing: and we love him....of course she did move up to CT....far, far away:sad2:

The South is great;)....of course I'm a little partial. TN is beautiful, too, Christine! ... I'm thinking you (Amanda) would really like Savannah area:rolleyes1...we're only 4 1/2 hours from the Mouse! How about Charleston, SC??? Another gorgeous southern city.

Everyone has their favorite longhouse....guess it's all subjective. Are y'all doing a GV, LV, or TPV? The reason I thought Fiji looked great is because it's GV price, but you get a water view. But you're right...it could get loud being right by the Luau. What about the larger longhouses? There are several that have bigger rooms. Let us know what you decide! Bet you change your mind 1000 times!!

Amanda, you're so sweet! You're certainly right about one thing...there are so many kind people on the Dis...people you've never met, but call friends. Most people wouldn't understand, would they?;) Feel free to vent any time you want....I think everyone completely understands. Has Ed checked out Georgia Pacific, EFACEC, Gulf Stream...big corporations...all located near Savannah? We could always be neighbors!;) Please keep us informed about y'alls job search.

Before coming to the DIS, I don't think I would've thought that I'd ever make friends with people on a forum. I've been very pleasantly surprised with many of the people I've met on here. I agree, I don't think most people would understand.

We have a bit of a double-edge sword situation going on over here. We are having Ed's resume professionally re-written. On the one hand, it's good because it should be great & really pop out to employers. On the other hand, we are waiting to get it before applying for all the long lists of jobs we've found. We are praying that Ed will get the resume no later than Tuesday.

Funny you mention Georgia Pacific. He submitted his resume to them on Monday for a job in their plant in south Louisiana. Well, a recruiter for them called him. She wants to wait to submit his resume to Georgia Pacific until she has the re-written one. Then, she will submit his resume to ALL of the hiring managers for all Georgia Pacific plants. I mentioned those other 2 companies to him & he is going to look into them as well. Thank you!

Georgia is one of our top choices as far as which states we'd prefer to be in.
Ed is actually from Georgia & graduated from Georgia Tech. We lived around Atlanta for a year right before we moved back to Louisiana.

Savannah seems like a great location with lots to do. And much closer to Disney than where we are now.

I almost forgot to tell y'all this: Last night, Ed just went ahead & submitted the resume he has for a Manufacturing Process Engineer job in Florida. Who is the company? Walt Disney World Theme Parks in Lake Buena Vista, Florida!!! I found the job posting on Disney's careers website & about fell off the couch when I saw it. So, we're praying HARD that he will at least get an interview with them.

Again, thank you so much for letting me vent on your TR. It has really helped just to get it all off of my chest. I will definitely keep everyone here updated on our job search. Hopefully, it will have more ups than downs. We truly appreciate the prayers & support given to us.

If I could just get over my need for a deluxe or one-bedroom, I think it would be fiscally responsible to visit again much sooner. I am getting very close to getting over that..... ;)

Wow! It was soooo fun to plan her trip - planning for a completely different trip than I could take right now (I.e., no early mornings, no kids, late nights). Plus, this is a 60-something woman traveling by herself. She ended up doing MS (orange) three times and every other ride. She closed down the parks every night! And she THOUGHT she had no interest in parades, etc. :rotfl: She ended up seeing every parade and standing on Main Street on her last night with tears streaming down her face. :cloud9: She is absolutely convinced that I could make a fortune doing this on the side. :rotfl2:

Seriously...a job at Disney??!! Wouldn't that be something if he got that?!!! You wouldn't need APs...it would be FREE, and huge discounts on resorts. We have a friend that works there very part time just so they can get the tickets and discounts. They actually go over and spend the weekends at the resorts, believe it or not.

And how about Ed is a GA boy:thumbsup2 Go Yellowjackets!! He shouldn't have a problem getting another job, Amanda. Stay positive...it will happen!

Ya know...I've had the same issue with the whole resort thing. My husband tells me it's silly and ridiculous, but he'll be the first to say that he needs a queen bed. Several of the mods have queens now...POR, POFQ, CSR...could be more. I bet your DD would like the new princess rooms at Port Orleans. I've actually looked at those 3 resorts over, and over, and over again. I'll tell ya, too, that our friends who go to WDW all the time LOVE the POP. They say it's not like the other values....might be something to check into. And honestly, if we needed to save money, I would go to any resort at Disney.

I didn't realize your boss went by herself! Wow! I bet she did get lots accomplished without kids and extra people tagging along. You're so right about it being a different experience...no early morning, late nights, no long lines for character meet n greets:laughing: Maybe next time she'll take you;)

I know, right?!? I have a sneaking suspicion that since I am dying for him to get this job with Disney that he probably won't even get called for an interview. Just the way my luck seems to work these days. :sad2:

Oh yes, he is definitely a Georgia boy. And he still sounds like one! *Disclaimer: I can pick on his accent because he picks on my Louisiana accent. My gut tells me he should be able to find something relatively quick. He went to a great engineering school, has lots of different experience in manufacturing & is a really smart guy. Trying my best to stay positive. When I start feeling down, I go to my scrapbooking room & work on Reid's album for his 1st Disney trip. Helps me to stop thinking about the job situation. Thanks for the words of encouragement!

Citricos – Part 2
Day 9

Our evening was progressing very nicely, but we were hungry and ready for our first course! Our waiter, Wade was extremely poised and knowledgeable…he did give us advice on what to order, being very honest. Bread was brought out first, but I didn’t get a picture. So….let’s start with my favorite course….

APPETIZERS

Sautéed Shrimp with lemon, white wine, tomatoes and feta….

IMG_6864.jpg

Artisanal greens and Florida Peach Salad with balsamic-orange blossom honey emulsion, pickled red pearl onion, smoked-spiced almonds and Valdeon blue cheese….

IMG_6863.jpg

Lump crab, capers, Meyer lemon, fennel-celery salad, avocado, olive Tapenade and Piquillo vinaigrette…

DSC_4665.jpg

Crispy risotto with Crimini mushrooms, Asiago, and charred tomato coulis…

DSC_4664.jpg

Child’s appetizer….

IMG_6862.jpg

All of the above appetizers were well worth ordering!!! Each was extremely tasty and plated perfectly. If I’m not mistaken, there wasn’t a crumb left….on ANY plate!

DSC_4667.jpg

While waiting for our food, the children had plenty to do….either they were coloring or peering out of the huge window that we were so fortunate to have.

DSC_4660.jpg

MAIN COURSE

Fregula pasta, Little Neck clams, Rock Shrimp in tomato and Saffron sauce with olive oil crostini….

DSC_4670.jpg

Pappardelle pasta, Kalamata olives, sun-dried tomatoes, white wine, and Aglio Olio….

DSC_4671.jpg

Carrot-potato puree, roasted vegetables, and toasted citrus Gremolata….

IMG_6867.jpg

Spanish onions, Peppadew and Banana peppers, Quattro Formaggi-crushed potatoes, and Veal Glace de Viande….

IMG_6870.jpg

IMG_6869.jpg

Once again….I can’t rave enough about the delicious entrees that we chose! Even though the veal shank doesn’t appear appetizing….it was really good!!! Looks can be deceiving! The children’s menu was excellent, too. Not your usual chicken fingers (thank goodness!!!) The kids all had the chicken, and would you believe that it was very juicy…not dried out at all?!

We dined for quite a while…not a quick in and out kinda place….so yes, as the evening progressed, the two little ones were a little restless:rolleyes1, but not bad. They had a ball playing in the window!

DSC_4669.jpg

Even though this restaurant is a signature, and one of the better signatures I might add…it was still very kid friendly. The wait staff went out of their way to make the kids smile.:thumbsup2 So needless to say, the Mickey straws were a huge hit!

DSC_4663.jpg

It was time for dessert….not that I needed to put another bite in my mouth! We can never turn down crème brulee!!!! Perhaps this is called an addiction... Tropical Fruit Crème Brulee with mango, pineapple and passion fruit….delicious!!!!!

IMG_6873.jpg

The kids weren’t really sure what they wanted, so Wade said he would take care of them….not to worry.

IMG_6872.jpg

He had the kitchen prepare a special sundae plate for Jesse and Faith….Stephen didn’t want anything. Wade was probably one of the best waiters that we’ve had at WDW….love him!! If you are dining there, I highly recommend asking for him. He’s very personable, and loves to talk (but not in an annoying kind of way).

IMG_6875.jpg

As we were conversing with Wade, I look over and Stephen is literally asleep! He was out!!! Bless his heart, he was exhausted. Of course the 4 year old was still going strong!!!! When I looked at my watch, I realized it was super late…we had been there for almost 3 hours!!! Time to go!

IMG_6877.jpg

As you would expect….we all would highly recommend this dining experience. Just don’t be in a hurry…take your time and enjoy the evening. We’ll certainly be returning on future visits without a doubt. And hopefully Wade will still be there.

Up next…..more vintage pictures from 1983:upsidedow….a “Blast from our Past”!

Dinner sounds delicious! The creme brûlée looks especially yummy!

Poor Stephen! Now, that is when you know a kid is tired! At least he got to finish his dinner first. :thumbsup2

Can't wait to see more flashback pictures. My first trip was in 1987 & man some of those pictures are so funny when I look at them now.

Looks delicious! I'm glad to hear that the servers were so good with the kids. Sounds like a great night.

The creme brulee was outstanding, and if I'm not mistaken 3 of us ordered it. Stephen really was zapped....he's usually our night owl, but after 9 nine days, I think he was done. Every trip we say..."we're gonna take it easy and relax a bit"....never happens:laughing: Perhaps on the cruise we can do this:rolleyes1 And speaking of the cruise, I've got to get over on those threads and start snooping around! I just received a pin code for 35% off of deluxe resorts, so I'm thinking we can use this for our resort stay before the cruise...have to call and see!

It was a wonderful evening, and probably because our children didn't act like crazy people...that happens every now and then, ya know;) There were a couple of other families with kids, but not many...not like you see at other signature restaurants. When we go again, I'll definitely ask for a table by the window....gives the kids a little extra room to roam.

Nicely done review, as usual, Heather. You ended on a high note... and started on one... and everything in between!

I love that the 80's are now considered "vintage." I can officially say that I went to high school and was married in a vintage era:rotfl:

I know...I always say I'll slow it down a bit, but I never do. The cruise will definitely give y'all a slower pace. :woohoo: for a 35% pin! I would definitely utilize that for y'alls resort stay. Y'all are going to have a terrific vacation!

Nicely done review, as usual, Heather. You ended on a high note... and started on one... and everything in between!

I love that the 80's are now considered "vintage." I can officially say that I went to high school and was married in a vintage era:rotfl:

:rotfl: Yes...KOOK....you are officially in the vintage era! And these pictures that I have are almost 30 years old:eek: ....Should I be considering myself 'vintage', too....:rolleyes1

DH and I were just talking about 'slowing' down...hopefully our mini vacation this week will be just that....slow and relaxing!
