3 Generations! 2 Resorts! 10 Days! DxDp! 3000 Pictures! - Saying Good-Bye!

I've been following along with your trip report and I just have to say that I LOVE your pics of River Country! I was only there once as well, in 1986, and we thought it was great! My brother and I loved the Rapids Ride. And, yes, part of the water that you swam in was Bay Lake, a big no-no now. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. :lovestruc

:rotfl2: LOVE the blast from the past!!!!!! I'm pretty sure that I had that exact haircut WITH the perm! :rotfl2:

It is fascinating to see the River Country pics. I had only seen the surveillance-style ones of the abandoned property that can be found on-line.

I will let you know how she does. I'm guessing she will enjoy it - she has seen The Lion King broadway production, and I took her to see This Is It when she was two. :rotfl: Yes, I REALLY wanted to see it. :rotfl: The only problem I foresee is that the show does not start until 8, and she is usually asleep by 7:30. So I'm hoping that I can wear her out in the hotel pool in the morning and somehow miraculously get her to nap before the show.

I bet if you go swimming that will seriously wear her out! Lay down with her and get yourself a nap, too;)

Love the pictures of River Country! I never got to go there when I was a kid so it's cool to see. Thanks for letting us go back in time with y'all!

Did y'all check out that link with all the recent pictures???!! How in the world do you think that person got those photos??? I'm sure Diseny has No Trespassing signs posted....there's a huge wall around the place! You can actually see the fence when you're at the BBQ over at FW. Who knows??!!:confused3

Glad you liked them;)...sure they made you laugh:laughing: Amazing how styles change...and thank goodness, right??!! Glad you confirmed my 'water' theory...after I posted it, I started second guessing myself.

Now that I'm thinking about it, more details are coming back to me. I remember there was netting along the edge of the water to help keep the lake critters out of the swimming area. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but now that I know some of what lives in that lake..

More or less I will be booking the same ADR's with a couple changes.

Yes I was compareing GF OBGV, Poly GV CL the TPV at GF and Poly are more plus further away, you don't see a parking lot but still I prefer CR for the castle view.

It is hard to explain but after losing my DS 2 years ago, it really made me realise how nothing is guarenteed in life. It makes it so hard at times to pin down decisions, where I use to just say ""well next time we will".........but now I know all too well there may never be a next time.

That will be a nice family trip with your MIL:thumbsup2 And the kids will appreciate having their grandmother along!

What ADRs have you made thus far? And didn't you change your original resort?
So far we have Crystal Palace, Le Cellier, and Whispering Canyon. I had Narcoosee's and Ohana, he made me cancel. He loves Ohana but wanted a breakfast buffet. He's a super picky eater. The kiddoes missed Gramma this trip, esp. DS10-she does the roller coasters with him.

This trip was POR-POP-POR-WL:laughing:

No Chocolate Bomb :confused3 I don't remember seeing that on the menu...they had an Ice Cream Bomb (vanilla & chocolate ice cream)

:blush:ICE CREAM Bomb - that's it! Yes, the ICE CREAM Bomb was yummy!

ETA: Forgot to thank you for posting the superterrificfunkycooltotallyawesome RC photos! Don't worry, you looked great. I may have even had your suit - and your haircut - and that perm and:sad2:

OMG I loved the river country pics and even more so the commentary you provided with them.:rotfl2: I never visited river country and actually never remembered hearing much about it....I am surprised they have not done anything with that area. Thanks for sharing.

Glad to hear that Tony's wasn't ruined for you.

I love your River Country pics! I am such a picture person and look at old photos all the time. Some things (like bathing suits and hair styles) are hilarious! It really is too bad about River Country - I went when I was younger so I don't remember much, but so many people miss it!

Heather - I totally enjoyed looking at your photos from RC back in '83. It looks like it was such a nice play makes we wonder why Disney let it fall into disrepair? Was it because they built Typhoon Lagoon?
We never visited RC , the first time we went to WDW was in '89 and to tell you the truth I did not know about RC, I know my oldest son wanted to go to Wet n Wild but we went to Nasa instead.
By our 2nd or 3rd visit/ maybe TL was open and we did go there.

We loved Discovery Island, we went over there almost every trip, would have lunch there. I recall the black vultures that spit on you I think? You had to keep an eye and watch out for them.
I also remember a great excitement of seeing some smallish rodent like rabbit animal there. DI was a great place to get away from the crowds as we back in the early days of our trips to WDW went always on Easter Week.

BTW......gotta love the old hairstyles and bathing suits I bet your kids had a good laugh.

That thread about RC now had pics that were unbelievable. Some time ago I saw one very similar about DI

Sad to say the least.

I bet you're 100% correct about the net...would have to be there, although I can't remember. I wonder how many snakes the CMs pulled out each morning??!!:rotfl:

Back to WL, huh?! Good choice! Le Cellier is one of our favorites...wasn't surprised at all when they went to 2 TS credits. Is the resort a surprise for you DH? I couldn't read all of your ticker on my computer.

Every time we ride by the Old RC, I stare in amazement and wonder why it still sits there looking the way it does:confused3

Our kids are always wanting to look at old pictures...especially Disney pics. They love asking 1000 questions...fun for everyone. Under my parents staircase is a closet that is full of photo albums...and when I say full...I mean full!

Sad to say the least.

It's always sad when a part of Disney closes. For those who never went to RC, it does pale in comparison to the other 2 waterparks. But for those of us who went as kids, it perhaps holds a different place in our hearts. I wish Disney would completely tear the place down...it looks horrible just sitting there for all to see! I went back today and looked at that thread with all the recent pictures....I'm still in shock!! And still wondering how in the world that person actually got those photos:laughing: I'm secretly jealous:laughing:

Love your trip report! Great pictures of everything. It's taken me a few days but finally caught up!

Thanks so much! We've had a great time putting this together and reminiscing about our adventures....always interesting times when 3 generations are involved

Those pictures are just creepy....and sad. I can not believe that Disney would let something like that happen to one of its parks. At least clean it up and then it'll be ready for when you come up with an idea for it. I read a little bit through the thread. From what I gathered, the guy did kind of "break in" to RC on his own. He then speaks of wanting to do the same thing on Discovery Island but says he can't do that one alone, that he would need help. Well, a few pages over someone posts that they will PM him because they know how to get him onto to Discovery Island. I wonder if he ever made it there. :confused3

Those hairstyles and swimsuits are coming back in style...eventually. :rotfl:

DH doesn't know about WL, still thinks we are at POR. AND he doesn't know about 2012 AT ALL. My DD6 (AKA HRH) keeps dancing around singing Polynesian or Grand Floridian....she BTW is the only one who knows....will she keep the secret :rotfl:

And I've been research the BWI 2 BR suite :rotfl2:

Ok....I finally read through several pages of the his thread. You're right...I think he "broke" in:laughing: How funny would it be for him to do the same thing on Discovery Island??!! I'm guessing he did that in the Winter...WAY too many snakes during the warmer months:scared1:

Will your DH be excited??!! I'll be really anxious to see how long HRH can keep THAT secret!!:rotfl: I'm guessing not long....my kids would be busting at the seams!

So you're checking out BWI, huh? I like the area around BWI but can't get past that hideous clown slide...kinda freaky. What about 2bd BC Villa??? They have an awesome pool!!!

I think he REALLY wants to stay at the Poly, he kept bringing it up last trip. And I am becoming partial to MK resorts I think. We stayed at BCV a couple years ago, DH didn't like it at all :confused3 He said it felt stuffy, but he LOVED GF, go figure.....:rotfl:

An you call my haircut bad... take a look below!! Mullet...need I say more?

And this swimsuit was the bomb. You are just jealous because mom bought it for me and got you that ugly one you are wearing!:snooty:

Oh my gosh I am loving your review! I LOVE,LOVE,LOVE the CR!!!!! I always thought if I ever stayed Deluxe, I'd do the Poly. But...those rooms are exactly my style. They look very, very nice. :cloud9:

My family love The Land ride too. But it makes me hungry, lol!

Well, I finally finished reading your entire report! Between being a mommy & work, I got to finish!! It was so much fun & makes me so excited for our vacation! You really cover EVERYTHING WDW has to offer. So many people think WDW is just MK. You did a great job! I sooooo wish WDW would fix river country, I'd love to go there!!! Ohhh well. =( Thanks for the awesome pix!!!!! =)

Really??! He thought BC is stuffy and not GF?? That is odd...but I do agree with him on one thing...I love the GF, too!! I'm also partial to the MK resorts:confused3 When I think of Disney, I think of the monorail and castle....guess that's because when we were kids, the only resorts that existed were located around the MK....there was nothing else!

Honestly....what was mom thinking??!!! A 'bowl' and a 'mullet'...not even remotely cute!

Thanks!! The CR rooms are awesome and probably the most comfortable beds at WDW....or at least out of the resorts we've visited. However, the Poly has beautiful grounds...very lush and tropical...I prefer the Poly atmosphere, but prefer the CR rooms:laughing: Too bad they can't combine the two...but then that would be one strange looking resort:laughing: We would go back to either place in a heartbeat....wishing my trip was as close as yours!!!!
