Anyone who has ever planned anything knows you cannot go wrong if you have a checklist. So, if one is good... two, must be better. Three would be near perfect. Me~ I had 52! I mean you have lists and then there are checklists to make sure everything on the lists was done. For those of you who DO operate by the "checklist protocol" you will understand me from the beginning. For the rest I may have to be more apparent.

The following constitute a small rendering of list types: You've got your 1) PACKING LISTS; 2) TO DO LISTS; 3) NOT TO FORGET LISTS; 4) IMPORTANT! LISTS; 5) DO TODAY LISTS; 6) DO TOMORROW LISTS; 7) MISCELLANEOUS LISTS; 8) MEDICINE LISTS; 9) TOILETRIES LISTS; 10) BEACH BAG LISTS; 11) AUTOMOBILE LISTS; 12) FOOD AND SNACK LISTS; 13) ACTIVITIES LISTS; 14) PEOPLE TO CALL LISTS....... Need I go on? It could get embarassing...My name is DISBUG and I am a LIST PERSON.

Anything of monument cannot be stored merely in the brain cells. Oh, it can exist there until the time when it is crucial to find that information and then it simply POOF! disappears... It is the same experience that you have while sitting in the Hot Seat of WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE, PLAY IT! (Which is a story much later in this trip report...) Everyone sitting in the audience KNOWS the answer. But me? I have to phone a COMPLETE STRANGER because I do not have my checklist to refer to right in front of me....

Need another example? Recently our DD9 went off to Girl Scout Horseback riding camp. This is a weeklong camp and as such requires a checklist of items to pack. I am usually the "packer" but my DH decided to do it this time. After driving 5 hours roundtrip to drop her off, he realized he hadn't packed her shoes! I smiled sweetly and asked him if he used the checklist as he packed things into her duffel bag? He smiled back, got the car keys (and the shoes) as he headed out for another 5 hour roundtrip... Checklists crucial? I'd say so! (*I think he was convinced, too, after returning at midnight!)

Lists can become complicated so from post-it sized scraps of paper taped to every smooth surface in or around my desk... (both at home and at work) I had to graduate to computer spreadsheets. From there I was mostly okay unless I printed a sheet and started adding manual notes that I forgot to transfer. This can get you in some serious trouble. Especially if you are making and cancelling reservations and Priority Seatings... I mean I would hate to end up at BOMA's on the night we were supposed to be on an ILLUMINATIONS CRUISE! But there are times when only a scrap of paper will serve. I mean if you are driving down the road, how many of you can take both hands off the wheel to tap something into your laptop? There are several of you out there that are gifted in that way~ Me, I can only drive while applying my makeup! It's a knack.

I also have a digital voice recorder for these type notes.. They work really well unless you forget to hit STOP RECORD and then you can get some really interesting conversations taped... especially if you are driving and the moron in front of you makes a right hand turn from a left hand lane. (As my children like to point out, "Mother how do you know the other driver is a moron? Do you know them?" NOOOO~ But I've seen them DRIVE and sometimes THAT is enough.) I usually have a clue this has happened when the battery light is blinking and I only have 2 messages recorded. (*Normally you can get 99 messages and about 2 hrs of recording time before needing new batteries...)

Where was I? Oh, yes! I finally graduated to using a PALM PILOT. These little devices are immensely useful... you can download directly to your Palm Pilot using what is called a HOT SYNC. My SYNC's were never hot enough, so I had to input everything manually anyway. Of course, if I had started using it sooner than the night before we left for our trip, I would have had time to READ the manual. I just waved it in front of my forehead a few times hoping the input buttons would be intuitive (self-explanatory) for someone like me... This is a little like not reading the map before getting on the Highway for an Interstate trip...or GASP! Not stopping to ask for directions when you are lost... :headache: (do not let my husband see this... I will never live it down!) For some reason my Palm was not speaking to my PC or vice versa... I don't know who started it and I didn't have time to negotiate a settlement. :badpc: Soooo, like taking manual notes, I just manually input the data... I will faint if I ever lose it... not the Palm Pilot, just the data! That was a lot of info!

The night before leaving, I printed one copy of the top spreadsheet for everyone to know... who, what, where, when, and why... WHY? So everyone would have their OWN LIST! The top sheet contained the itinerary for the week as well as each day's EARLY ENTRY park, the park times... etc.. There were places for all the PLANNED EVENTS such as the "VERY MERRY UNBIRTHDAY TEA PARTY" at the Grand Floridian. Another was the "GROTTO GETAWAY" at the Grotto Pool. We also were doing the SORORITY PRINCESS BREAKFAST one morning at Cinderella's Castle! All of the ERIDE nights were listed as well as the Priority Seating numbers... what they never saw were the other lists which listed the parade times, the character greeting times, the times for WISHES, ILLUMINATIONS, and FANTASMIC, the bus and boat operating schedules... :hyper:

I won't tell! I'm a Sigma Delta and I'll stick by my sisters!

Another great installment, Denise! I even have a few of your lists to prove it!

 Denise, you make my day! You are too funny - I'm really lovin' your reports.
*secret Sorority handshake with HM - "Noooo, we won't ever tell. We are sorority sisters forever."

:headache: That was my problem! (smacking self in forehead) I didn't pack anything for ME!! But, let's just say if anything bit you, burned you, scraped you, upset your stomach, gave you an earache, headache, foot cramps, allergy attack, sore throat..."DR MOM" was ready!

Denise~ was that why you carried a Chinese food container as your purse? ;) :teeth:

OOOps - a sorority secret let out of the bag!

:rotfl: OH, MOUSETEACHER! I FORGOT about THAT!! There I was dressed for the BLUE ZOO and NO PURSE for my lip gloss...(no pockets either!) So, we had saved that contained from EMERIL's TCHOUP CHOP... they serve the appetizer rice chips in them... and I thought I was being CHIC! LOL!

MUFFY! You're BACK! GREAT...(we must have been simul-posting!)
We'll need to see pictures and hear the wonderful details of your trip..(We missed you this time! Next time, 'K?)

I would have posted a reply sooner but I couldn't quite get to my keyboard. We're leaving next week (!!!) and I get the funny feeling that you might understand the proportions to which my lists have grown ! I swore there was a keyboard under there somewhere. I gave up on the Palm -- I need that gratification of scratching through when I have actually accomplished something !

I'm enjoying your story so far and thanks for the background on the Sigma Delta - I wondered.
