3 Australians Attempt to eat the World! - Updated 24 October

Welcome to my first ever dining report!

We stayed at WDW (POFQ) from September 9 - 19 with free dining - regular plan.

I kept most of our receipts, so I'll be sharing the total of what things would have cost where I can, and in most instances I took photographs – sometimes though I just totally forgot – (or maybe was too hungry to wait!!)

Our travelling party consisted of me and my Mum & Dad. We all love a good steak. Mum and myself are dessert fiends and none of us eat seafood.

I had made all our dining reservations before we left – and we stuck to them; except for cancelling one along the way.
I will cover the following:

So who are we?

This is us on one of our last days on this trip.
Ok – onto the food.
We arrived at POFQ around lunchtime, so after settling in, we headed to the food court for the first of many meals.
Mum and I shared a chicken salad and a Chicken Po Boy. We both enjoyed them very much. Dad had the bacon and cheese burger.

I don’t have a photo of the burger – I think Dad just ate – and it was too late before we realised!!

We then had dessert...

I had the Mickey Cookie Ice cream sandwich; while Mum and Dad got ice-cream (Mum the Cookie Dough & Mint; Dad Mint & Strawberry).


You can see in the background that we also purchased the refillable mugs.
We all enjoyed our lunch very much.
Total cost, had we been paying was: $49.08. 3 Quick Service Credits used.
Although we very much enjoyed this meal - I don't think it was worth $50.00. Had we been paying out of pocket, we probably would not have got so much food – and kept the cost down.

Dinner on our first night was at Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney.

This is one of the meals where the excitement of the food was too much, and no photos were taken!

I can tell you what we had...

Me - Cannonballs!, Soda & Brownie for dessert (which I kept for much later - and ended up enjoying on the flight home!)

Dad - The Original, Soda & Jell-O & Fruit

Mum - The Earl's Club, Coffee & Banana Muffin (Mum saved her muffin and had it for breakfast the next day).

Total cost on this would have been $32.18 - and worth EVERY PENNY!!!! Again, 3 Quick Service Credits used. Absolutely delicious! We had every intention of coming back for another go at this, but just ran out of time in the end.
Would highly recommend this to all. Dining plan or not - a MUST DO!!

Our first full day at Disney saw us at Hollywood Studios.
Breakfast was at Starring Rolls.

Dad & I got Cinnamon Rolls

While Mum ate her Banana Muffin from last night.

To drink – I had a hot chocolate, Dad a juice and Mum a coffee

We used 5 snacks to get this – total cost was $13.37.

Overall it was an okay breakfast – nothing to write home about – but it did the job!

It was now about 2pm, and we had a Fantasmic! reservation at the Brown Derby at 5:10pm. We were all a little hungry, but didn't want to ruin our appetite. So after seeing Lights, Motors Action! We stopped at the Backlot Express and got a single meal to share.
We decided on the Chicken Caesar Wrap with Fries, a bottle of water and the chocolate cake.

We used 1 Quick Service credit for this, and had we been paying over the counter is would have cost $15.90.

The meal was good – it certainly did the job. I know a lot of folks don’t think much of the Backlot Express, and I was a little concerned when we stopped here, but it filled us enough, so that we got over our hunger, but could still enjoy our dinner.

Our first sit down dinner was at the Hollywood Brown Derby:

When Mum and I had been here in 2008 we really enjoyed it, so I had been looking forward to this meal...

To start with, we all ordered a soda; these came out along with the yummy toasty warm bread. It was so good!

For starters, Mum and I both ordered the Cobb Salad – this is huge – and really one would have been enough to share. I’m not a huge fan of Blue Cheese, and I thought that the taste of it at times was overpowering the rest of the salad. We still both enjoyed it.

Dad ordered the mixed Green Salad. He said it was good- but nothing special. (He ate it all, so I guess it must have been OK)

For Main course, Dad and I both ordered the Fillet; while Mum had the Pork Chop. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals – they were delicious – although Dad and I both thought the steak was a bit salty – not sure if it was a rub they used?

Next...the most important part of the meal...DESSERT!!!
Here I started my mission to find the best crème brulee in the world!

This did not disappoint – very creamy, with a nice crunch to the top

Mum went with the Chocolate 3 ways – which she enjoyed very much – I do think she did have a bit of food envy though! As she kept eyeing off my brulee! I did give her a taste!

Dad went with the Banana Foster – which he enjoyed very much

Total cost of this meal as the Fantasmic! Package was $175.70 – we used 6 table service credits for it. I did enjoy the meal, but I’m not sure if I would go back again. Although It was good to have the reserved seating at Fantasmic! as it was a full house the night we were there.

Maybe it is time to try one of the other restaurants that offer the package?

And with that our first full day at the world was done!

As I said in my review, I think I would enjoy it more with less Blue Cheese. Maybe some Feta instead?!?

So back to the food!

This morning saw us at Animal Kingdom, and it was Tusker House for Breakfast. Again, Mum and I had eaten here in 2008 and really enjoyed it, and I had returned for my solo trip in ’09.

I did forget to take photos of the food here...too busy getting taking them with the characters!

But I did get some, and then went over to the buffet and took some there.

Ooops!

Who doesn't want cookies for breakfast?!?!?


It was as good as I remembered. I especially loved the baked ham (not something we get here in Australia) –so I really enjoyed that.

Also love the glazed donuts!

If paying out of pocket this breakfast would have cost $73.46 – while using the dining plan it cost us 3 Table service credits. I think it is worth it on the dining plan, but not sure out of pocket. Is $25.00 a head too much for breakfast? I guess the character interaction is a bonus. Although I preferred it when they didn’t make you have your photo with Donald out the front. It was much better when he just roamed the restaurant with the others. Also them trying to sell you a $30.00 photo while you are eating isn’t a favourite of mine.

After eating such a large breakfast, we didn't bother with lunch. We did get a bottle of water with a snack credit though (cost would have been $2.50) - no photo sorry!

Dinner tonight was at Le Chefs de France.

I had dined here on my solo trip, but it was a first for Mum and Dad.
Mum & I decided on the prix fix menu, while Dad decided to just go a la carte.
So Mum and I got a starter, and neither of us could go past the French Onion Soup – it was so good...but this is all I have to show you of it....sorry!

I did share some with Dad, as I wanted enough room for dessert!
For main course Dad went with grilled tenderloin of beef, while Mum and I again got the same, and went with the half-roasted chicken.

Dad did say that although the steak was good, it wasn’t as good as the Brown Derby. Mum and I both thought our chicken was delicious! It was very moist, and the vegetables were very tasty. So was the gravy (maybe could have used a little more!)

Of course the main reason for eating was next...DESSERT!

I continued my mission of finding the best crème brulee on property...

And it did not disappoint! I thought that this was better than the Derby. Very rich and creamy!

Dad went with the crepe – which was a suggestion from our waitress, and he enjoyed this very much.

Mum went with the profiteroles, she enjoyed them so much, I actually thought she was going to lift up the plate and lick all the chocolate sauce off it!!!

I should also mention that we also got a warm bagette served to the table. It was toasty and warm, and the butter melted into it. Best word to describe it...mmmmmmmmm!!!

Again, a very enjoyable meal, and we rolled out very full. If paying out of pocket, this meal would have cost us: $141.58 – it did cost us 3 table service credits. I think that the prix fix menu is great value – 3 courses for $39.99. Would I go back? – probably yes; would it be on the next trip...maybe...it would all depend on what else I wanted to try.
The only problem with this restaurant was that we felt that we were rushed through our meal. We had barely finished each course when they were bringing us the next...

Another day down!

Today saw us hit Epcot. And with not much to pick from in the breakfast category – we went to Sunshine Seasons.

Mum and I decided just to share a bagel – we weren’t really that hungry; while Dad went with the Breakfast Panini.

We also got a coffee, a juice and a bottle of water.
Total cost on this would have been: $17.59, or 1 Quick Service and 3 Snack Credits.

It was a standard breakfast – and it did the job, nothing to write home about.

Lunch time saw us back at the Land riding Soarin’ – so we headed back down to Sunshine Seasons for our 2nd meal of the day!

This is one of those meals where I ate first, and photographed second! Sorry...
This was a Turkey Focaccia (Mum & I shared again) and a Reuben Panini...we also got a couple of sodas.

I did remember to photograph dessert (most important) and we had..

An apple caramel crunch cake

And a Blueberry muffin

We all very much enjoyed lunch – I was especially impressed with the crunch cake – gooey sticky top, and nice moist cake.
Total cost would have been: $31.89, it cost us 2 Quick Service Credits.

We all left with full stomach’s and were more than happy with our lunch.

really enjoying your photos and reviews. see you're also a regular disneyland visitor. With relatives in Adelaide I'm interested to know how long it takes you to get to LA and how long to get to Orlando. Looking forward to more.

Enjoying your reviews. I got very hungry looking at your desserts at Chefs. We have have done lunch there the last two trips & I love the quiche. They have a 3course deal at lunch too
