I am planning on booking the Amalfi ABD for May of 2025. It will be myself, my husband and son that will will be 20 at that time. Is there a benefit to booking as 3 adults in one room opposed to my son being booked as a single traveler? He is pretty tall and I'm concerned about his comfort on a roll-away or pull-out couch. Your input is appreciated!

Read the fine print on your particular trip. Sometimes there is a single supplement -- basically a single traveler pays more because they are talking up a room that could be used by two. However, some tours will specifically state "no single supplement".

The accommodation information is at the end of the dates/cost section for each trip on the ABD website. It lists the bed configuration for each city. Here’s what it says for Amalfi:

Note on Accommodations (subject to availability):

Prices are Per Person based on Double Occupancy.

Parties of 3:
  • In Sorrento (2 adults/1 child): 1 room with 1 king bed and 1 twin bed
  • In Sorrento (3 adults): 1 room with 3 single beds
  • In Florence (2 adults/1 child): 1 room with 1 double bed plus 1 rollaway or sofa bed
  • In Florence (3 adults): 2 twin beds (pushed together to form 1 king bed) plus 1 rollaway or 1 sofa bed
Parties of 4 booked as 2 doubles:
  • In Sorrento: 2 rooms, each with either 1 king bed or 2 twin beds
  • In Florence: 2 rooms, each with either 2 twin beds or 1 queen bed or 1 king bed
It might be helpful to contact ABD to find out the length of the rollaway. If they don’t know, you may be able to find out by visiting the hotel website or emailing them. I travel on ABD’s as a solo traveler all the time and I always have to pay the single supplement. If you haven’t already, I would suggest posing the question to ABD to see how each option will affect the price.

Yes, talk to ABD. I guess I'd be surprised if there is any reduction in your costs for being 3 to a room. (Basically, you are avoiding the single supplement of getting two rooms.) But I could be wrong (hasn't been our issue in the past - we always needed the second bathroom of having two rooms, even when the girls were both minors).

And remember that hotel rooms in Europe are small.

Your son is aged 20 an adult Have you asked him what he thinks
of sharing a room with you 2 ?

Would he pay towards a single room ? He might wish to be on line half the night?

DO you really wish to share your bedroom with a 3rd person in the room ?

Like others have mentioned, booking him as a single traveler would add an extra cost for a single supplement. This is usually an extra 40% of the trip cost, but can vary based on trip and date.
