3/21/04 Sunday, day at Sea.
My family slept in. I was very happy to have a verandah I could vacation on instead of waiting on my family in the dark. I brought down breakfast from Topsiders and read the 2nd Bridget Jones Diary book on our verandah. I painted my toe nails red - literally. It was hard to do with all of the motion. I took a bonine as a felt a bit queasy in the bathroom. Felt loads better in the fresh sea air.
Once family was up and dressed we went to Lumiere's for "brunch" (they called it lunch). It opened at 11:30am and we were right there. We had excellent service, oh my! Napkin in the lap, cutting up my childrens' pasta, bringing a new fork if one fell. We felt so pampered. This was the only sit down lunch we managed all week but I highly encourage you to take the time for it. When/if we cruise when the kids are older (or not with us
), I plan to do the sit down lunch much more often.
We dropped the kids off for their activities by 1:30pm. DS got to go to the Lab for detective school. Saying he got to go to the lab was a plus as he found the club a bit "babyish". Our couples massage was at the spa at 2pm. We checked in and filled out our forms (checked all concern boxes "no" ). We were led to the changing rooms and given robes. The room itself was dimly lit and smelled soothing, like lavendar. Two tables were side by side and covered with towels and sarongs. Our masseuses left the room while we took off our robes and laid face down, covering ourselves with a towel. I was in a bikini and my DH was in the buff (brave man). The massage felt wonderful and so relaxing. I enjoyed the scalp massage although it did leave oil in my hair. They held up sheets while we turned over onto our backs. Every part that got massaged was then wrapped in a warm towel - mmmm. Something warmed and scented was placed on my eyes - double mmmm. We were so relaxed and happy after our massage. They brought us water and we filled out our forms. Massage price was taken care of by package but not the tip which we gladly paid. I asked if we could slip into the Rain Forest room for a bit and they said please do. I just wore my bikini and DH wore his robe. So restful to sit on the heated bench and smell the scented steam. We held hands and nearly fell asleep. I left to pick up the kids and left DH to relax longer.
I wanted to curl my hair but I didn't know if it would take as the oil in my hair was making it extra soft. I just use sponge rollers without heat so hair has to be perfectly clean, no time to wash my hair and dry it in time. So I used loads of hair spray and had curls. I wanted us ready early so we could get in line for pictures by 5:15 pm. My dream was to have them taken with Minnie and Mickey, DS and Mickey both in tuxes.
No Mickey and Minnie tonight until 9:30pm
. Is it always this way? How is my DS's white tux going to stay clean until then? We stood in line for formal shot in front of the mickey statue and we did buy one of these (would have bought both shots but the close up just had DD's head, looked odd). This was a major disapointment for me as I had really wanted a shot of my DS in his tux with Mickey in his. 9:30pm is just too late IMO - sigh.
We had Lumiere's tonight and many people were dressed up but others were not. Family next to us had children in flip flops, Dad with no tie and mom in a fish net looking sweater. I do enjoy dressing up so I wish everyone did but it must be hard for families who fly to drag along dress up clothes. DH was in his mess dress (military tux) and looked so sharp. DS was in the white tux he picked out and DD was wearing a cranberry red long silk dress. I wore a cranberry red satin wrap to match DD along with my black satin top and smoke colored long skirt. DH had wanted DS in a black tux but DS really really wanted the white. I felt on a ship it was fine. Service was slow and "off" tonight. We were one of the very first tables seated and one of the last to leave. DD entertained herself by climbing the stairs at the front up and down, as though she were cinderella. She begged and begged to go to the club and I finally gave in. She was so happy to be dropped off at "her club". DS stayed with us and enjoyed all of his food.
We went to pick up DD for the Golden Mickey's show and she didn't want to come so we left it up to her. I was sad for her to miss it but she was having so much fun where she was. We three enjoyed the show very much. We stayed dressed up, like we were going to a real red carpet show. We picked up DD after the show and went back to our room where we discovered our first towel animal, a scorpion, took his picture with child on either side. We ordered room service pizza and watched a little TV. Seems to becomming a habit.......
