3/20/04, Sat. = our 10 year anniversary and the day we set foot on the Magic!
I woke up early
and walked outside to see if I could see the ship. I could and I got teary eyed. All of this planning and it was coming true! Our shuttle was coming at 10:15 am so I let the kids sleep in until after 9am. We had grape nuts cereal and soymilk for breakfast with fruit. Kitchenette came in very handy and we liked the bright green, yellow and orange dishes. We dressed in matching gold disney t-shirts and tan shorts. Not only was this fun (some might say tacky) but I thought it would help keep our group together, didn't want to lose a kid right off. We took pictures of ourselves with the Magic in the far background then checked out (painless). They gave me a parking pass for the week to put in our car window.
Our shuttle arrived alittle early ( nice) and we were to the port before 10:30am. They were not yet allowing the cars to drop off and a line had formed. We were dropped off in the parking lot by the luggage stand. We were told to go on ahead and walk into the terminal. A breeze was blowing and we were very excited walking toward the ship. The kids had noticed goofy hanging off the ship as we drove in and I was enjoying them seeing everything for the first time (I've seen pictures on the DIS, they have not). We were not the first in line to check-in nor the first in line to board but were towards the beginning of the first wave. I was feeling no stress as all of our ressies had been made through the Romance at Sea Package. We took a picture of the kids in front of the model ship then waited for boarding. A lot of fun, nice people were in line to chat with but I didn't see any DIS green. You folks must have been a little behind me, we were about the 12th family in line. We saw Donald come out and Pluto. The kids were happy to wave and didn't ask to go hug so we boarded before noon. We got our photo taken and I was happy with how it turned out, I like the new background.
I wish I had video of the kids' faces as we boarded the Magic! I could tell how proud DS was when they announced our last name and everyone was clapping. It was a heady experience. We had a few pins on for trading but didn't see any we wanted. We went to guest services and picked up Tea with wendy tickets for the kids and dropped off our pillowslips with fabric markers. I had lined the pillowslips with black felt so the ink wouldn't bleed through (this ended up working very well).
We then went up to Topsider's Buffet so we could view the launch while eating. I poured my mango soup over ice and sipped at it - yum! No rum for me as I had already popped a Bonine. We had our suits in our carryon and were already to swim but the mickey pool was closed
. I asked and was told it would be open by 3pm. Next, we registered the kids into the Club. They were excited to see it and couldn't wait to get to play there.
By now it was 1:30 so we went to our room. We were very excited to find it bigger than a camper van. You can't touch both walls at the same time so all is good
. We were mid-ship, deck 6, room 6550. There was a gift from Dreams Unlimited on the bed! A photo box with frame and cards. The yellow on the box matched our t-shirts. Our romance basket was there as well which gave something for each kid to hold for a photo on the bed. Our luggage showed up so I unpacked in a freenzy while DH put sunblock on the kids and himself. He is a perfectionist so this activity took him awhile
. I was whipping things out of my suitcases like the over the door shoe holder, my DH was quite impressed. Shoe holder was great, held kid's name tags and beeper, sunscreen, hair things, ect, ect. Thing that impressed my DH the most was the plug in air freshener for the bathroom. Boy did our bathroom need it when we first boarded. When I plugged that thing in it was "ahhhh". Then we went up to swim and everyone else had too. I guess they got their luggage also. I found one lounge chair right by the pool edge and sat and watched the happy kids swim. My DD had enough right away, could have been because she was tired. She climbed up into my lap under a towel and slept. DS enjoyed the rough play though, all of the splashing around him was fun. He wore his snorkle mask to keep the water out of his eyes there was so much splashing.
We left around 3:45pm to get our lifevests on for the drill. We didn't show up early or late, just right. Thanks for this advice as my DD was standing with the sun in her eyes and wouldn't have lasted for extra time. She did better than I thought she would, no complaints as she stood there with her little hand shading her eyes. We went back to the room to slip out of our vests and back into our shorts to make it to our dismeet. Our room host showed up as we were leaving to intoduce himself, Bhupesh. He was very nice and did a great job on our room all week. We showed up late to the DISmeet as the sail away party was already in full swing. My DH and kids had found a spot by the rail right near the Disers so that is where we stood. Kids had a great view of the characters and my DD blew bubbles for 30 min. through the railing onto the people below. I had picked up little miniature bottles of bubbles at the dollar store. We passed them out to all of the kids around us and still had some left over to blow off of our verandah throughout the week. I went over and intoduced myself to a few of the ladies at the Dismeet but it was loud and hard to hear one another.
Next we dressed for dinner as we had main seating (6pm). We watched us actually sail away, from our verandah, blowing bubbles and waving to folks on shore. The ship was really rocking by the time we sat down for dinner. My DH took a second bonine just to be sure. We were PLA rotation so our first night was in PC. The kids enjoyed their food but by 7pm were eager to go to the club. I dropped them off but ran into a snag as the club had no record of them
. I had a beeper and the kids had their nametags so they went ahead and took them. We got the registration thing taken care of after dinner. As this was our anniversary, they brought out a cake for us with the Magic printed on white chocolate. Our head server brought it out and had rounded up a few others to sing to us, even asking us to kiss. I wish the kids hadn't missed it but they aren't sad that they did. We went to the pin cart and picked out some pins. They had an adorable Chip and Dale artist choice which I just had to buy. Between the motion of the ship and the one Bonine I had taken, I was feeling quite tipsy, as though I had been drinking. It was a fun, alittle unreal feeling. Having my kids away from me and yet knowing they were having fun was a giddy thing as well.
We picked the kids up in time for the 8:30pm show. We really enjoyed this even though there was major motion. I didn't get sick so I'm grateful. I had given the kids ginger tablets and had "preggie pops" for them to suck on. They were not feeling like themselves so we went back to the room. I finished unpacking and ordered room service pizza. The kids ate and watched a bit of TV then went to sleep. DH was feeling quite out of it, perhaps because of taking 2 Bonine? At least none of us threw up. I was asleep once I shut my eyes.
