Is the 3-1-1 rule still enforced? I haven't traveled in a couple of years and especially since our flight is so early, I don't want anything delaying us, especially something I could avoid. TIA!

If the CONTAINER is less than 3 oz, you're good. If you have a larger container (8 oz for example) with 3 oz left in it, not good.

Those little packs of nutella? As long as you are thinking of the ones that are under 100ml (that is the real measurement; which is actually 3.4 oz), yes.

I would only bring the other packs if it specifically listed the oz or ml of the cheese stuff. Then again that might not be considered liquid/gel since it's cheese.

The cheese would fall under the "If you can smear it or dip" part of the "then it goes in your baggie" rule. Assuming we are talking about those little packets that come with crackers and are about the consistency of peanut butter or nutella.

Thanks for the responses - yes, i was referring to that small "to go" of Nutella with the tiny breadsticks and those small Kraft cheese/breadsticks with the little red spreader thing....

I've experienced serious melting with the Nutella packs where they could be considered liquid-like. I've never seen the cheese packets change consistency at all.

Basically if it does not hold its shape outside of its container or you can smear it, it goes in the bag.

so in other words if you have any of that stuff it is best put in checked luggage if at all possible?

Well, that's up to you. I don't feel it's best to put those things into checked, as long as you have 3.4 or fewer ounces of it (as already discussed, this means a container that is marked with that or a smaller amount). I don't want my perfume being dropped on the tarmac and broken so it ruins my clothes and everyone else's. I WANT my mascara with me, not sent on a side-trip to Costa Rica. Same with my nail polish, if it's a nail polish-y type of trip. I want my 3.4 oz containers full of my sunscreen WITH ME (I often have one entire 311 baggie filled with those...we each get a baggie and my son doesn't really have the need for a baggie, so he's the sunscreen baggie carrier, LOL) just in case my big sunscreen bottles (double bagged of course!) in my luggage doesn't get there for the first day or two.

So for me, no, I don't feel it's best to check things in containers 3.4 oz or smaller.
