3-1-1 Question...I thought I knew...

I'm hoping to avoid checking a bag for my upcoming trip. We have a plane change and a late arrival and I don't want to deal with going to baggage claim or the possibility of a misdirected bag. I am planning to order travel-size toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, hairspray, etc) from Amazon Prime Now so that I can free up room in my 3-1-1 bag. We arrive at 11:30pm and we are staying at the airport Hyatt so we will have a "starter" set of toiletries for the first day anyways.

We are going to the Halloween party and I wanted to bring a few of those small glow sticks. I found a package of (4) 4" sticks at Michaels for $1 so I grabbed it. Now that I think about it, can I even put these in a 3-1-1 bag? They aren't exactly labeled with their liquid volume. I assume that they would need to be in the bag because they contain liquid, right?

The TSA actually addresses this and looks like you just stick it in your carry-on (no mention of 3-1-1 bag - which is mentioned for things that need to go in the bag like shampoo).

You may transport this item in carry-on or checked baggage. For items you wish to carry on, you should check with the airline to ensure that the item will fit in the overhead bin or underneath the seat of the airplane.

To help officers get a clear look at your bag and reduce the need for additional screening, we suggest you pack your bag in neat layers (layer of clothes, layer of electronics, layer of clothes, layer of shoes, etc.) and wrap cords tightly around electronics items.

Even if an item is generally permitted, it may be subject to additional screening or not allowed through the checkpoint if it triggers an alarm during the screening process, appears to have been tampered with, or poses other security concerns. The final decision rests with TSA on whether to allow any items on the plane.

Unless you have liquid deodorant you can put a full sized container of it in carryon and NOT use the 311 bag. FYI.

You know almost every drug store, target, Walmart all sell travel size toiletries. Would seem easier than ordering on line.

Oh wait, are you having them delivered down there? FWIW I can pack every liquid DH and I will need for a week in one 3-1-1 bag. A quart sized bag is really pretty big.

We brought quite a few packs of glow sticks on our trip 2 weeks ago, carryon only and honestly it never occurred to me that there was liquid inside! We had no issues with them in either direction (didn't use them all).

I looked at Amazon Prime Now and the prices of the travel-size shampoo, conditioner, hairspray and mousse are all the same price (actually, a few cents cheaper!) than what I can buy them for at my local Target. Since I am getting a grocery order from them anyways, I figured I would just save the room in my bag and add them to my order.

I would like to bring my Tide pods for laundry (I have a large prescription bottle to put them in) but they take up a lot of room. I also have a 3.0 oz bottle of spray sunscreen that I use and it also takes up a lot of room. I don't want to push my 3-1-1 bag to the limit so I figured I would order what I could and keep the available space in my bag.
