2yr old @ O'Hana's?

We will have our 2 yr. old with us in Dec. for our 1st dinner at O'hana's. Will she be able to participate in some of the kids games? And, do they have a childrens menu?

I'd have to say to no to participating in the games. It's hula hoops and coconut races, personally it was too advanced for my 4 year old last summer. Also, a LOT of older kids participated, and my 4 year old is a little shy, and the older kids just RAN over her. I was standing nearby, and I was worried I'd get run over!! Also, there is no kids menu at Ohana's, since it's an all you can eat place. Your 2 year old, will eat for free, since she's under 3. Now, I have heard of people being able to order off the kids menu from Kona Cafe at Ohana, but you'll probably be charged for that meal.

I have video of one parent helping their toddler ( maybe2-3, I am bad a guessing ages and have no kids of my own) with the coconut race. The child could never have handled it alone but the parent was assisting and the kid was trying hard. People in our area were cheering her on including the waiter. I have heard that small kids can get childrens meals from the Kona Cafe next door.

Our 2-year-old DS ate at Ohana's with us twice. He was given a special meal due to his food allergies and was also given a special dessert. We did not pay for any of it. The chefs at Ohana were the most helpful and friendly we had encountered at WDW.

The games are coconut broom races and hula hooping. Your little one can participate in both with a little help.

As for the broom race just go with her and line up at the BACK of the group then all the older kids will get through the race without running you over.

When we were there last week a there was a little one playing with the hula hoops who could not have been more than 18 months. Nobody said a word, it is quite fun to watch.

As for the menu, you will probably find she can eat the meat they serve as well as the vegetable and rice. We did request a bowl of steamed broccoli for our two and there was no additional charge for this. You might even be able to ask for white rice instead of the fried rice. We did see a little girl order a grilled cheese so there must be some options. I remember when we sat down our "Cousin" (Waiter) asked if the kids were picky eaters or not.

We were very pleased with our meal at Ohana last summer. The kids ate the all you can eat (but are older than OP's) BUT we have friends who went in Dec. and they said that their little one ate a kids type meal (sorry I can't remember what it was) but they said the server "cousin" was more than happy to offer them options other than the all you can eat.

We took 2 1/2 yo DS to O'Hana's during Christmas. He is a very picky eater, but the brought him french fries and nuggets. They also brought him some paper umbrellas and some straws with shiny firework looking stuff attached to them (don't know how else to describe them). Our "cousin" was awesome!!!! Can't remember her name, but she normally serves breakfast at Spoodles....

Anyway...DS loved the coconut races. We kept him toward the back so he didn't get run over. He was the last one finished, but people were cheering him on. He had a great time. Only problem, is DS likes to "play" golf when he visits his grandparents. He was a little confused at the beginning and didn't really understand that he had to sweep the coconut, not hit it like a golf ball. I was mortified, but the other dinners were very amused.

This has been a helpful thread for me, as I am bringing my 3 and 1 years olds to Ohana next month.

I have another 2 questions:

1. when does all this fun stuff commence? We have early Ps's (6:00pm). Aare we too early for the races, etc.?

2. Are you allowed to check out the Poly after dinner, as in looking at (but not swimming in) pool, walking on the beach, etc.? We are staying at AKL this trip.

We have always eaten early at 'Ohana, between 5:30 and 6:30 and have seen activities on each trip. I am sure it is more fun ( or louder) when the restaurant gets busier later.
You can go visit all of the Polynesian after (or before) eating. We have had dinner and then went down to the beach for the fireworks. Depending on how you arrive there you can spend more time there. If you arrive by car you will be given a pass for 3 hours which is plenty of time to eat and tour the resort. If you arrive by Disney transport you could stay even longer if you wanted.

Mainebound, no you won't be too early for the kids' activities. I'm not certain how they determine the timing between races but they do it often enough that you should be there for them in the time it takes to have dinner. And yes, you are welcomed to walk around the Poly before or after dinner. Make sure that you do. It's a lovely place. Depending on when (or if) they are having fireworks on the night you are there, you can stroll down to the beach and have a great view of the MK fireworks and the Electrical Water Pageant that goes right by the Poly. If the timing isn't right for the fireworks or EWP, I would recommend still walking down to the beach since they have lawn chairs and hammocks to just relax for a little bit. Hope this helps!

p.s. I spent many a summer vacation when I was a kid at York Beach, ME. I've got to go back one day!

My 2.5 year old was allowed to order a grill cheese (she too has food allergies) but I don't believe that was the reason - I was told they routinely do it. She also participated in the race and got gummies - I just sort of helped her through it but I would suggest staying at the back of the crowd. She had a good time.
