Day 5 (Dec 7th)
Up late today - 7.00am ! Popped over to the Howard johnson to say hi to DW's niece and boyfriend and arrange to meet up later in the week. Went on to Universal as it's only round the corner to the hotel.
Universal seems very empty on our way in - but then most places have been very empty.DD insisted that we went into Nickleodeon Studio tour. This has changed since 2000, as all we did was the kids game show part. Last time we had a guided tour round the studios. Next stop was Twister, which both kids refused to do last time. Now they're both a bit older they came in with me and DW. I enjoy the theming and pre-show area much more than the actual show. It always seems very tame to me (and the kids this time) As we exited we saw the Blues Brothers car come past so we chased after it to watch the show. Thought it was very clever how they incorporated the Xmas theme into their act with many of the songs being given a special Xmas flavour. The fake snow being blown out from the top of two of the buildings was fun as well.
Next two were Earthquake and Jaws - again DS and DD did both with us this time. Earthquake was a blast - so much better than Twister. Jaws always seems to depend on which driver you get to spice up the ride - ours was Ok but not as much fun as the young lady we had before.
Had fish and chips in Amytiville after the Jaws ride.
Took in the Wild West Stunt Show before going to MIB. I missed this in 2000 as DD wouldn't remove herself from the Woody Woodpecker coaster! Again the theming and pre show queueing area are superb and the ride is fun too - My top score was 202,000 - Is that good ??
DD still has a fixation the the Woody Woodpecker coaster, so into the kids zone we go - warned both kids that it's not warm enough to get soaked in Curious Georges, so we skip that section. Have to do ET and get front row seats which DD + DW love.
That leaves Terminator 2 and we catch the last show. As before neither DD or DS did this last time. I absolutely love this - it's my favourite show/film. DS thought it was great too. DW gives it a thumbs up but DD wasn't impressed - she perched her 3D glasses on the end of her nose so she wouldn't have to see the 3D effects!
Stopped in the photo shop on the way out to collect our photos - leaving plenty of time before the park closed this time! So what happens - all the tills crash - apparently the central control computer had had enough for the day ! - So we skip the photos and leave. I always feel cheated at the end of a Universal day as there are no fireworks.
Stopped at Wild Jacks for dinner. It's slightly more pricey than most but does serve a lovely steak. Almost as lovely as our waiter according to DW !!!! - Just wait 'til I get you home young lady !!!
In bed by 8.30.
Fav's of the day :
Tony - Terminator 2
Paulet - Blues Brothers
Jack - Terminator 2
Chloe - Woody Woodpecker's Nuthouse Coaster !
