Cast of Characters:
Me Father of 2 just got a job so Im happy again.
DW Mother of 2 DH just got a job so shes happy again.
Those of you who have followed our story/saga for the last 9 months know we have had a tough go of it. I have been a contractor in the software development field for 7 years. In June my contract ended. From that point until March 21 I had no work and no income. I am now working on contract again until October 2. Hopefully things will continue to improve and I wont have any more trouble finding work after October. During this time we had all kinds of vacations and stuff planned. We had put ourselves into a good position in life one where we had the resources we thought to take some vacations. In 1998 we bought DVC, a year later we added 100 points. In May, 2001 we took our first annual anniversary trip at that time we bought annual passes, knowing we would be back. At that time we also had a trip to Walt Disney World planned for December where we planned to meet my sister and her family. We also had a trip to Whistler BC planned for March 2002 and this just completed trip. All but this one had airplane tickets paid for when my contract ended in June. In July watching the airfares, we bought tickets and planned a spur-of-the moment trip to Walt Disney World at the end of September. That was before we realized I wouldnt be working for 9 months. This is our first trip since I started working again. Knowing that I would have work when I got back was a huge lift and helped me to enjoy the trip much more than I had enjoyed the past two.
This trip was without our kids the kids stayed with Grandma. It will be our last trip to Walt Disney World for awhile.
Friday April 26:
Here is the meaningless first day stuff:
I went to work that morning, DW met me at work we drove to the airport and headed for Orlando. We landed right on time no problems. The temperature in Minneapolis when we left was about 45 degrees. Orlando was about 90. Hurray!!!!
We headed to the baggage claim. No Tiffany. I had called Tiffany 2 weeks prior they said a driver would be there with a sign when we arrived. In December the driver had been about 20 minutes late and had apologized profusely we figured it would never happen again. We got our luggage from the carousel still no Tiffany. I found a suited gentleman obviously a limo driver and asked him if he was from Tifanny. He said no but he would get us to the Boardwalk. So we took him up on his offer and headed to Disney. This didnt appear to be starting out very well.
Strangely, the day didnt get any better. Nobody at the Boardwalk offered to take our luggage so we checked in with luggage in hand unusual but not a problem. We got our room and decided to go to Epcot to get some Fish and Chips. We love the Fish and Chips the take-out ones from the UK pavilion and figured it would be a special treat. We had no sooner sat down then the heavens opened. The dining area behind the Fish and Chips stand was closed - apparently they were getting ready for a private party so we ended up eating soggy fish and chips in the rain at a non-umbrellad table. As soon as we were done we ran into one of the shops to wait out the storm.
We met a nice couple there from Atlanta who were on their last couple days of a month-long vacation to Orlando. They had spent the month seeing all the sights in Orlando not just Disney and told us to go to Kissimmee to see the Auto Show. There is apparently a parade where they show off all kinds of old cars. It sounded fun but we didnt plan to leave Disney.
We waited about an hour and browsed all the UK shops. We found Wimbledon merchandise, beautiful teapots, tea, perfume, cologne. About the time we had browsed the entire set of shops the 3rd time we finally caved in bought yellow ponchos and sloshed back to the boardwalk. We went to bed early. It had been a long day
