We have a 2BR at SSR booked for 11/14 - 11/21. Family was coming but now it may just be the 2 of us. We won't know definitely until 9/1. What are the chances of switching the 2BR to a 1BR that late in the game? We would like SSR but would take OKW or anywhere the 1BR would be available at that point. What do you think?

It is really difficult to guess...with the current economy, yet the parks seem busier than normal. Are Developer Points still being used at SSR or have they expired?

Have you thought about changing the reservation from a 2BR to a 1BR & a separate studio? The problem with having the 2BR reserved is they won't let you just drop the studio portion.

But if you reserve a one bedroom and studio, there is no guarantee that they will be connected. But you would be able to drop the studio if you needed to. BUT, if you are past your banking period, you'd be left with points that you might not be able to use for that UY or points that you could not bank and would expire at the end of the UY.

Your best bet is to get your family to confirm as soon as possible. And if they say "yes", but back out at the last minute, you'll know to never invite them again.

But, if the chance of your family coming is so up in the air until Sept 1, why not change your reservation to another time? Instead of losing points.

ah....the family vacation. Just went through this...gave them final dates to change their minds, explained about losing points etc....Then three weeks before a number of them back out and/or change their dates. This results in us having a grand villa in which one of the nights (a Friday !!!!) we have only 4 people in it!!! Yes, a few feelings were hurt when I reacted to that phone call !

It turned out ok as we magically could change our reservation, cancel the last night of the GV and book extra days to use up the points we would have lost. But, I don't think I will invite them again.

You are booked for a busy time. Not sure if you will be able to switch things up in September. If I had to do it again, I would book smaller rooms that can be cancelled and still leave you with somewhere to stay

That's why we book 3 studio's. Even when they come we like some away time.

If you can change now to a 1 bedroom and a studio, I would do that, especially if you would be able to bank the points if you know what the real status is by September 1st.

This way, if they come, they have a place to stay. It won't be as nice as if you're together in the two bedroom. If you have to cancel their part, you won't have to worry if a 1 bedroom is available at that late date for your trip.

I agree this is the best way to do this. On the other hand....We always stay in a 1 bedroom with two of us, so I'd just plan on keeping the 1 bedroom portion and let the studio be for your guests....whether they come or not. It's their loss to not be in the bigger unit with everyone, but I think it's the only way you can work this out and not lose out yourself.

Thanks for your replies. The problem is to stay at SSR booking a 1BR and Studio would require more points than we have available (current and borrowed). Now switching to OKW we could do it. I haven't made up my mind yet and I'm driving DH nuts. Uggh! No more family.

Just tell them to hold their portion of the room, you need $xx to cover it. If they don't come, you have a bigger place and your points costs are covered. If they do come (and you truly want to share your points as your treat), then use the $$ they gave you up front to take them out to dinner or something.
