My DBrother and his wife will be celebrating 25 years this summer!!! Their kids are planning a family get-together to honor this and asked me to do a slide show for them, and I am at a loss for music.

They are not the typical couple, they married very young and are only 43 & 44 now, so nothing oldie in the music dept. The kids want 80's music, and I am having a hard time remembering anything that would work for this.

They both like classic rock, nothing pop-ish or country. Any suggestions????

They sound like us. :) Here are some ideas:

In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel

I'll Stop The World - Modern English

Friday I'm In Love - The Cure

Ghost In You - The Psychedelic Furs

Shower The People - James Taylor

It's The Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of - Carly Simon

Newer songs that would be great for an anniversary:

The Book Of Love - Peter Gabriel

I Could Not Ask For More - Sara Evans ( not too country ;)

Have Fun!!! :)

or

Flowers- Cross Canadian Ragweed

You bring me sunshine
I bring you rain
You bring me smiles
I drove you outta your brain
You bring me up
I bring you down
I bring you flowers
If it brings you around

Chorus
I know that I am hard to live with
Try to live with out me girl
Drive you crazy, drive me mad
We're the best thing we've ever had

You roll your head back on your shoulders
You roll your eyes you know it gets to me
Then we roll back all the covers
We're gonna roll through eternity

Chorus

Yeah we're the best thing
Just ask your dad

How about "Remember the Magic" by Brian McKnight? It was part of the Disney 20th Anniversary soundtrack.

Sounds exactly like DH and I. We're celebrating our 25th in August. We married when I was 18 and he was 20.

Personally, I love hard rock/metal, but I guess that may not work for them. How about something by Journey or Bon Jovi?

I just went to a friend's 25th anniversary, and they used the song "through the Years" by Kenny Rogers. The words are PERFECT for a 25th anniversary.

Through the Years by Kenny Rogers

I can't remember when you weren't there
When I didn't care for anyone but you
I swear we've been through everything there is
Can't imagine anything we've missed
Can't imagine anything the two of us can't do

Through the years, you've never let me down
You turned my life around, the sweetest days I've found
I've found with you ... Through the years
I've never been afraid, I've loved the life we've made
And I'm so glad I've stayed, right here with you
Through the years

I can't remember what I used to do
Who I trusted, who I listened to before
I swear you taught me everything I know
Can't imagine needing someone so
But through the years it seems to me
I need you more and more

Through the years, through all the good and bad
I knew how much we had, I've always been so glad
To be with you ... Through the years
It's better every day, you've kissed my tears away
As long as it's okay, I'll stay with you
Through the years

Through the years, when everything went wrong
Together we were strong, I know that I belong
Right here with you ... Through the years
I never had a doubt, we'd always work things out
I've learned what love's about, by loving you
Through the years

Through the years, you've never let me down
You've turned my life around, the sweetest days I've found
I've found with you ... Through the years
It's better every day, you've kissed my tears away
As long as it's okay, I'll stay with you
Through the years!

Great ideas, but I think the kids were thinking more of a song from 1984 and rock as well. They want it to be something from that era when they were dating and got married, but not sappy. They actually didn't have a *song*, otherwise I would use that. I wish I could just ask DB and DSIL, but the kids are keeping all this a surprise.

This was released a little earlier than 1984 but it's soft rock and would be recognizable:

STILL THE ONE (Orleans)

We've been together since way back when
Sometimes I never want to see you again
But I want you to know, after all these years
You're still the one I want whisperin' in my ear

You're still the one I want to talk to in bed
Still the one that turns my head
We're still having fun, and you're still the one

I looked at your face every day
But I never saw it 'til I went away
When winter came, I just wanted to go
Deep in the desert, I longed for the snow

You're still the one that makes me laugh
Still the one that's my better half
We're still having fun, and you're still the one

You're still the one that makes me strong
Still the one I want to take along
We're still having fun, and you're still the one

Changing, our love is going gold
Even though we grow old, it grows new

You're still the one that I love to touch
Still the one and I can't get enough
We're still having fun, and you're still the one

You're still the one who can scratch my itch
Still the one and I wouldn't switch
We're still having fun, and you're still the one

You are still the one that makes me shout
Still the one that I dream about
We're still having fun, and you're still the one...

We just celebrated 29 years and I always think of this as "our" song, especially the part about "we're still having fun!"

For our 25th beach vow renewal, we had my dd sing our wedding song "You made me love you" but i wanted it to be a Hawaiin theme, with the exchanging of the leis. I picked alot of Elvis songs from Blue Hawaii and actually had the guests get up for the last song on the beach and all dance to "Slicing Sand" yes it was silly but so much fun. The last song Dh and i danced to was "I'm in love with a Jersey girl" by Bruce springsteen. But the most beautiful song of the day was when we both walked on the beach they were playing "The Hawaiin Wedding song" by Elvis. Its a great wedding and anniversary song! Congratulations to your brother and sister in law!!!

Queen's "You're My Best Friend":cutie:

Ooo, you make me live
whatever this world can give to me
it's you, you're all I see
Ooo, you make me live now honey
Ooo, you make me live
you're the best friend that I ever had
I've been with you such a long time
you're my sunshine and I want you to
know that my feelings are true
I really love you
you're my best friend.

Ooo, you make me live

I've been wandering round
but I still come back to you
in rain or shine
you've stood by me girl
I'm happy, happy at home
you're my best friend.

Ooo, you make me live
whenever this world is cruel to me
I got you, to help me forgive
Ooo, you make me live now honey
Ooo, you make me live.

You're the first one
when things turn out bad
you know I'll never be lonely
you're my only one
and I love the things...I really love these things that you do,
you're my best friend

Ooo, you make me live.

I'm happy, happy at home
you're my best friend
you're my best friend
Ooo, you make me live
You, you're my best friend.

Nickelback - Figured You Out :goodvibes

Umm... no :lmao: I think that's a little too... frisky for a 25th anniversary.

I was thinking "Us" by Regina Spektor. That is such a sweet song, and it's a beautiful song.

They made a statue of us
And it put it on a mountain top
Now tourists come and stare at us
Blow bubbles with their gum
Take photographs have fun, have fun

They'll name a city after us
And later say it's all our fault
Then they'll give us a talking to
Then they'll give us a talking to
Because they've got years of experience
We're living in a den of thieves
Rummaging for answers in the pages
We're living in a den of thieves
And it's contagious
And it's contagious
And it's contagious
And it's contagious

We wear our scarves just like a noose
But not 'cause we want eternal sleep
And though our parts are slightly used
New ones are slave labor you can keep

We're living in a den of thieves
Rummaging for answers in the pages
We're living in a den of thieves
And it's contagious
And it's contagious
And it's contagious
And it's contagious

They made a statue of us
They made a statue of us
The tourists come and stare at us
The sculptor's marble sends regards
They made a statue of us
They made a statue of us
Our noses have begun to rust
We're living in a den of thieves
Rummaging for answers in the pages
Were living in a den of thieves

And it's contagious
And it's contagious
And it's contagious
And it's contagious
And it's contagious
And it's contagious
And it's contagious
And it's contagious

Or My Man, by The Strokes with her singing.

You were right
Modern girls always have to go
Right on time
Old-fashioned men always want a mistress
You were right
Modern girls always get their way
I was wrong
Modern men dream of what they can't say
That's alright
(That's alright)
I don't belong

I don't belong
Why you sitting over there?
Why you gotta say it
If you know it's sounding wrong
Says that he'll apologize
And it won't take too long
Always thinking about yourself
You don't wanna trust nobody else
Time
There's a few things
That are gonna have to change
I'm your son
Everyone has the same opinion
Won't you please
Your time is almost over
Don't be mean
We won't get the chance to do this over

That's alright
(That's alright)
I don't belong
I don't belong

Why you sitting over there?
I don't want the imprint of your key on my nose
We don't have to tell no one
Cause no one wants to know
Always thinking about yourself
You don't have no happiness at home

Oh yes we're falling down
Oh yes we're falling down
Oh yes we're falling down
Oh yes we're falling down

You don't love me
Always thinking about yourself
I am an animal
Always thinking about yourself
I am not practical
Always thinking about yourself
Was I?
Was I?

DH and I were also married in 1984, so I totally know the songs. LOL! But the kids need to know what the parents liked. I googled and got a list of the top songs from 1984 and I've put in bold the ones I think are romantic for an anniversary, but talk to the kids of these people 'cause you don't want to pick something that the parents hated:

Thanks so much! :goodvibes

I had also googled the top 100 for 1984, and nothing really jumped out at me. Another search I did (but I can't remember what I used for the subject ) brought up a ton of songs as well, then I went to lyrics.com and spent hours looking at the lyrics and hearing the songs. I will go back and look at the new suggestions on there as well.

One I found I really like, does anyone remember it? I didn't see when it came out, but I think I had 80's in the search when I found it :confused3

Love of a Lifetime by Firehouse

A couple others I found are...
When I See You Smile by Bad English
When I'm With You by Sheriff (which is funny because they both work for the Sheriff's dept.)
Heaven by Warrant
Every Time I Think of You by The Babys
and one suggested here... Still The One by Orleans

I sent the list I made along with all the suggestions here to my nephews for them to choose from.

I personally like From This Moment On by Shania Twain or Don't Want To Miss A Thing by Aerosmith, so I added them to the list as well. I know DSIL likes Aerosmith. I remember my DB liking Quiet Riot at the time, but I don't think I will be able to squeeze anything from them into the slide show :rotfl2:
