Prologue:
The trip began 26 years ago. I met a lovely young lady while attending Virginia Tech. Yes, she was engaged to a friend of mine, but I’m a 20 year old college male, so that didn't matter. He wouldn’t give her the engagement ring anyway, so you couldn’t call it "official". Sitting in my buddies apartment late one Friday evening, the smell of beer filling the room, this lovely lady says…”Let’s go see the Rocky Horror Picture Show Tonight!”. Her pseudo-fiancée poo-poos the idea as childish. So a young ZDad speaks up and says….”Sure let’s go !” That’s where the whirlwind began.
On Friday it was The Rocky Horror Picture Show. On Monday it was her Birthday. On the following Friday, I went to her dorm to study……and asked her to marry me. Zmom, being young (19) and naïve, didn’t think I was serious. So every day from there forward, I asked the same question. A couple of months later, Zmom turned to me and said YES. We were married the following January, less than a year after we first “went out”.
(BACKSTORY: Zmom and the pseudo-fiancée really were supposed to get married. In fact they had bought the ring. You see, Zmom worked in the jewelry business and she had picked out a particular antique ring as the one she wanted as an engagement ring. Well, who am I to not give her what she wants? After much discussion, argument, and haggling, I purchased the ring from pseudo-fiancee, and presented it to her as her engagement ring. She wears it proudly today.)

Fast forward 26 years. It’s 2007, and we are celebrating 25 years of marriage. We thought about going on a trip on our actual wedding day, but that’s in January, and the boys are wrestling for the High school at that time. We didn’t take our first Honeymoon in January anyway. Zdad had to be back at work the next Monday, so we postponed our Honeymoon to Disney World’s Polynesian Hotel until April of 1982. Well then, let’s do the same thing this time.

So there you have it. We are about to do a trip report on our 25th Wedding Anniversary trip. A trip, like the original Honeymoon, that was delayed 4 months.

Next up: Getting There, or “Why I hate USAir”, and The Sweet sounds of “Welcome Home”

This is Zdad and Zmom in June 1981. Zdad’s college graduation day. We were married less than six months later.

I've been subscibed to yours...just reading in the wings. It's great so far. Love how well you and your daughter get along !!

Wow, I just read back over your post, and it hit me that you said you went to Virginia Tech. The events of last month must have been very emotional for you.

Very much so. Us Hokies are a very tight knit clan. Had some real struggles that week. The vacation couldn't have come at a better time. I needed to get away.

OMG, I love your picture. Me and dh celebrated our 25th Anniv. in April and we were married last August. Looking forward to seeing your updated picture. You two look like babies.
Me and dh were both 19 when we got married. That is so unheard of today.
Looking forward to reading your TR.

Excellent start! :thumbsup2 Can't wait to read more! Those years go by fast, don't they? We're at 20 years and counting...

:rainbow: Happy 25th Anniversary! :rainbow:

Chapter1: “Getting there” or “Why I hate USAir”

Not sure how to write this part. There is a good bit of anger for USAir here, but then again this is a Disney trip report, so I need to focus on the positive. So, I’ve decided that this will be a short Chapter.

Two days before the trip, I get on-line to make sure everything is in place with the airline. I come to find that our departure time has changed by a ½ hour, from 8pm to 8:30pn….. and the Flight number has changed!!! Not a word from USAir. Thank goodness I checked. Magical Express would have been looking for our bags on a flight that didn’t exist. I fixed it, with no help from you know who…(or should I say U.S.-know who). Saturday arrives. Time to leave. The boys are being great. Yes, we are paranoid about leaving them at home alone, but then again they are 18 & 15, and the neighbors are watching them like hawks. We all have an early dinner together and it’s off to the airport. I planned plenty of time to arrive at the airport. We get there and the flight is delayed another hour and a half. Ugh. More hassles at the airport, not worth getting into. We finally take off at 9:55pm. Wheels down in Orlando at 12:05am. Man this is late !!.

But then the fun begins. We check in with Magical Express, get on our beautiful Mears bus, and we finally feel like we are there. The Magical Express experience was just fine. Very efficient and friendly. After a few other stops we finally arrive at Pop Century. This is just a place to grab some sack time until we check in at the Lodge tomorrow. I can’t wait to hear those magical words when we pull up….Welcome Home!

The day ended around 2:15am. We were real tired but the tought of waking up at Walt Disney World make for a peaceful night.

Next Chapter….. “Welcome Home”, an unplanned DIS Meet, and A Wonderful Day in the Kingdom.”

I'm in...I'm in...I'm in...I'm in...

So...the lesson for today is...check to make sure the airline didn't change all your junk so that when you got to the airport you are not surprised!!!

I'm a sucker for a happy story, and celebrating 25 years is HAPPY!!!! Congratulations.

Looking forward to more.
