My Amex had an offer for $25 off $100 at Staples.com. They have Target gift cards (sent as e gift card). My offer was valid through 2/7 -- check your offers!

I received:

Target e gift card the next day after ordering (though my order said it would take a couple of weeks to receive).

Email from Amex immediately after ordering confirming my purchase with the $25 cashback offer.

$2 cashback from ebates (2% Staples.com) -- shows in my ebates account though as always offer states it won't work on gcs.

$25 cashback on my Amex the day after the "pending" Staples purchase posted to my Amex.
...

If the Target to Disney gc still works at Target I will get another 5% off.

So I will pay $95 for 2x $50 Disney gcs at Target.com.

Out of pocket $75 for the Target gc through Staples.

Total: $75 for $100 Disney gc, plus:
$5 to go toward another gc
$2 ebates rebate
$1 (1%) cash back for purchase on my Amex.

(So I guess I could think of it as $100 for $67 but those extra amounts will just get absorbed in other purchases.)

i never get the staples ones, probably because I never shop there. I'm considering running into one and buying a pack of gum to see if it will trigger the offer on my Amex.

I have never shopped at Staples using my Amex. May be regional.

There is just one issue, the terms are a little sketchy for the deal you posted:
TERMS

Offer valid online only at Staples.com. In-store and phone transactions are excluded. Physical and electronic gift card purchases are not included. Quill , Smilemaker, Staples Business Advantage, Staples Toner Services, Staples Technology Solutions, Staples Promotional Products, Staples Print Solutions, Staples Contract and Commercial, Staples Simplexity and international purchases are excluded from the offer. If you order an item during the offer period but it is not sent to you until after 2/7/15 it may not count towards determining whether your purchase qualifies for the offer. Offer is non-transferable. Limit 1 statement credit per American Express online account. Enrollment limited. Must add offer to Card and use same Card to redeem. Statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after 2/7/15, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase. Note that American Express may not receive information about your qualifying purchase from merchant until all items from your qualifying purchase have been provided/shipped by merchant. Statement credit may be reversed if qualifying purchase is returned/cancelled. If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as qualifying for the offer, you will not receive the statement credit. For example, your transaction will not qualify if it is not made directly with the merchant. In addition, in most cases, you will not receive the statement credit if your transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party or if the merchant uses a mobile or wireless card reader to process it. I have seen Amex send out the "congrats for using your enrolled card" and then later determine you aren't eligible and not give you the credit. On FW there is someone complaining that they have been fighting with Amex for a year about a credit. Hopefully that doesn't happen here, maybe it just means don't get Staples gift cards. I guess even if they don't give you the credit you aren't out anything and you are still saving some money on a Disney gift card.

The credit posted 4 days ago for me. Even if they reverse it later (which I doubt they will) I am not "out" anything since I purchase Target cards all the time to buy Disney cards.

I did a similar deal back in November with Office Max -- purchased $50 in ITunes GC and a few smaller items for Christmas gifts and received $10/back -- without issues.

Wish I had the Staples one in my account now....but no such luck.

I have this offer but it says "Physical and electronic gift card purchases are not included." OP, do you know if your offer had that language?

I'm willing to bet that everyone that has that offer has that language in the offer (I know mine does). If you look at the threads on sites like slick deals and Fatwallet you will see that the majority of the people that tried did not have issues buying a gift card (I've seen some people post about Lowes e-gift cards, many people post about buying a prepaid Visa) and still getting the congrats email and some of them already have the credit posted like the OP. However some people have had problems. Just this morning on Fatwallet someone posted when they bought a prepaid Visa they got the "Congratulations" email, but then when they logged into their Amex it moved the offer from "Redeemed" status to "Click here to redeem" so it didn't work for them. Since the offer is good until Feb 7 I want to see more people have positive experiences like the op and I want to see if some of the people having problems figure out why.

Thanks for the info OP. I did not receive the offer, but I'm glad that you were able to use it!:thumbsup2

Thanks. That makes sense. I just bought a target gift card yesterday at Kroger getting 4x fuel points. So if I bought one and didn't egg the $25 off it wouldn't go to waste, but it makes more sense for me to buy them at Kroger getting fuel points and 6% back from Amex.

Excerpts from my offer:
"Physical and electronic gift card purchases are not included."
"In most cases, you will not receive the statement credit if your transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party." -- I would assume that means things like ebates but it must mean something different because I went through ebates and got the credit, plus ebates 2% [and I assume the ebates offer also says no gift cards]

I saw the heads up about this offer on an airline points site suggesting buying a prepaid [fee] Visa and warning to do it ASAP in case they pulled the offer/fixed the glitch. I believe that allowing these purchases is something that could have been easily avoided, and can be cut off just as easily if they decide too many people are using the offer for gcs. So I'd do it sooner rather than later.

I think this is language is also talking about people that checkout with something like google wallet.

Just an update: I went through ebates and purchased a $100 target gift card from Staples using my Amex with the offer. I got the email right away and today received the credit. I also got 4% back from Staples in Ebates.

I purchased mine last night and got the email from AMEX that I made the purchase at Staples, so here's hoping to getting the actual credit! EBates was only 2% on Staples yesterday, but that's still 27% off if the eBates and AMEX credits come through! Thanks!

I'm happy someone else was able to get the discount! I still have my $25 credit on my AmEx (though I was not really worried it would disappear!) and my $2 from ebates is sitting in my PayPal thanks to the recent payout. Also, the Disney gcs were finally online again so I got another $5 off.

I did that deal couple weeks ago and got AMEX credit on my and my husband's credit cards. So it works exactly as described. I think this is the best discount you can get.
