I have never made a cash reservation since owning DVC. We are now contemplating a Spring trip that would need to be a non-points trip. Does the discount only work in conjunction with a points reservation? Is it only for DVC properties? Is it booked with member services? Thanks so much fo your help!

I don't think you need to connect it to a point reservation. I've called MS for our cash DVC reservation -- this was for a 1BR at the BWV. We did get the DVC discount for this cash reservation.

Now, we want to add on days in a 1BR at VWL for next May, but the discounted cash reservations are not yet available. We can book it at full price, but not discounted. I will call back periodically until I'm able to get the discount on the room.

GOOD LUCK!

Can you use the cash discount at non DVC resorts?
Nope. Not a DVC discount. They are only good for DVC accomodations from what I know.

But if you have an AP or PAP, you can possibly get a discount through their "Best Rate" program. Or if you have AAA, there is usually a discount available with that membership. I'm sure there are others. So far, I've been successful in getting all three of the above discounts for different vacations and have saved some good $$$.

The 25% DVC discount is only available at DVC resorts - and is not always available. Since the first priority is to reserve DVC villas using points, MS will not usually allow a cash reservation until they are convinced that the room won't be needed for points reservations. They can access the CRO inventory to make a cash reservation - but that may not include the discount. the discount needs to come from the "member" inventory.

The discount is usually not available at 11 months (there are exceptions when MS has a past history to go by for occupancy levels though- we got the discount at 11 months for a weekend night at HH) but may still become available once within 6 months. I've always reserved those at rack rate and have always been pleasantly surprised to receive an updated confirmation later - with the 25% disount applied (without needing to call back).

Enjoy!

I have tried to get the 25% discount during spring break/Easter three times at WDW, never got it. I did get it for Easter 2006 at HH, right at the 7th month mark.

Out of curiosity, did you just end up paying the full price or changing your location?

Is the 25% discount related to the breakage point? That would explain why they're only available closer-to the date of the reservation...

No, it's not really related to breakage dates. It is entirely dependant on anticipated need for point reservations. Most discounted night availability will likely be on weekends, when point-based occupancy is most open. I doubt there is much available weeknights in early December at the onsite resorts- since that is a very high demand time for point reservations (even weekends may not have much cash availability during that time frame).

I have personally been able to get the discounted rates in May and September on several occasions and have gotten the discount at HH for weekend dates in July many times. In those cases, I've usually made a rack-rate reservation and then have been pleasantly surprised with a later comfirmation letter showing that the discount had become available. I was even able to make a discounted reservation for a Sat at HH right at 11 months for next July.

If there is anything remaining at the 60 day breakage date, it would certainly be made available for the cash discount BEFORE it would be turned over to CRO for public cash reservations.

Previously, we just took a night off the trip-the cost was too high and we don't like to move. (Or rather my DH won't move.)

This year I paid the full price for a 1 BR at VWL for one night. It was painful, but it was the best decision for us at that time. Now that I think about it, it is still painful, but we had a great time!

That is exactly the struggle we're having right now. In september, we paid for one night in the 1BR so we didn't have to move. We got the discounted rate, but it was still painful to pay for it. The trip we're planning next May, we have enough for 3 nights in a 1BR but we want to stay at least 5 nights. We COULD switch to a studio for the length of stay, but I think I'd miss the accomodations too much. And we really dont' want to move -- but do we want to pay over $300 per night for the additional nights? We just don't know what to do! If the discount isn't applied it would end up being over $400 per night.

Just not sure what to do...

Sounds to me like you either need to add on, borrow or skip a year, LOL!

Best wishes-

P.S. Or you could save $133/month between now and next May and then you will have the cash for those 2 extra nights.

:earseek: :eek:AHHHH!
SKIP A YEAR??!! Are you INSANE??? :rotfl2:

I have a feeling we'll end up going with what we'd be most happy with...and that would be spending the money and going with the cash reservation to stay in the same accomodations.

Luckily, we still have time to think about it. :earboy2:

All us like-minded, whacked out Disney folks!! :earseek:
We were going to go down in Dec 05 and Nov 06 to take advantage of our AP's, of course....Now we are thinking about sneaking in a smaller third trip the first week of march 06 since DD has 2.5 days off of school that week.......I am sick,I think :goodvibes

Back to the topic, I actually used the 25% discount on our 1BR BCV stay in Dec (11th-18th) for a friday and sat night.....got the discount confirmed around the 7 month mark.........$300 is a little pricey, I have to admit....but we really didn't want to move this time..we moved our last two trips and just want to stay put in our villa.....

Why would you not rent points from a fellow member over at the rent trade board? Even at 25% off rack rate the rented points would have to be much less???

Not for a Saturday during Premier Season at VWL: 1 BR is 75 points. Full rack rate was just shy of $600.

Or at Hilton Head on a Saturday in April: 2 BR is 84 points. With 25% off, I'm paying just over $300.

I can't speak for the OP but weekend nights, cancelability and lower risk are some reasons that come to mind.

I am attempting to do this....but it is risky. Many of the people selling points only have a few posts on the DIS. I'd rather purchase from someone I trust a bit more because of a history with them on the boards, at least.

Hi,
at 47 points per night x $10 I would be shelling out $470 vs only $300 per night. Better deal to get the 25% off rack rates.....

Sometimes i think it would work out better with that 25% off.
