24 Desserts and 124 Food Pics!! A June 2011 Dining Report**Pics Back & Complete 8/17

Great review of O'hana! Mmm at all that food! :cloud9:

Also loved the Main Street Bakery goodies! :thumbsup2

Ohana's is our family's favorite place at WDW. I think we are going to try twice this coming trip. One in the beginning and one at the end. Just plentiful food and fun/entertaining atmorephese makes perfect for a family meal.

I know 'Ohana always seems to get mixed reviews here but we absolutely loved it. Loving these reviews :thumbsup2

I'm so jumping on this fabulous food train !! great reviews and pics so far !! can't wait to read more ! :cool1:

We had a late lunch at Animal Kingdom- around 2. I was hungry but we were on a mission to see Finding Nemo the Musical. I knew we wanted Flame Tree Barbeque. I have tried to find other stuff at AK but never really found anything I wanted.
My dad got the cold Turkey Sandwich with a piece of honeydew melon.
DisneyJune2011203.jpg

This looks really good and fresh! I don't know what he though about it, but I think it was good? Sorry I am not much help with other people's food!
He got the key lime pie in a cup, which he said wasn't good. He still ate the whole thing though?? I also thought it was gross when I had it last year.
DisneyJune2011206.jpg

Brother had the ribs with coleslaw and baked beans.
DisneyJune2011202.jpg

These were tough for him to eat. I had them last year and wasn't that impressed so I skipped them this year and got...
The pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw instead of baked beans.
DisneyJune2011204.jpg

MUCH better than the ribs!! The only downside was the bun was soggy on the bottom. The coleslaw is good as well. I had some of that spicy BBQ sauce. YUM!
For dessert I had the chocolate mousse in a cup. Dessert Count #5
DisneyJune2011205.jpg

This was MUCH better than the key lime pie in a cup. I poured most of that chocolate out from the top, it was like they pour Hershey's syrup in it. The mousse was very yummy though! I really enjoyed this meal. I was worried it would be too hot sitting outside but it was nice and breeze, we sat under the gazebo area. The workers at Flame Tree were going around with plates of cupcakes to give to kids just for the heck of it! I didn't get one though :confused3 Hey, I am a kid at heart!! I was almost tempted to go up and ask for one.

The key lime pie actually looks pretty good. So does your pork sandwich. We really enjoyed the Flametree BBQ when we were there but I can't remember now what we had. :goodvibes

After Animal Kingdom we took the bus to Yacht Club for dinner and got there about 1/2 hour before our reservation at 6:30.
The night before my Dad had rolled onto his glases and snapped one of the entire sides off..So he was trying to find electrical tape or something to use but they wouldn't help him here because we weren't staying here. Needless to say, he wasn't a happy camper about this(glasses breaking). The entire trip he had to try to balance his glasses on his nose using only one of his ears.

We waited in the little lounge and I had a Magical Star Cocktail ($10.50).
DisneyJune2011152.jpg

This drink is fun but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I don't even remember what is in it now, passionfruit?? It was okay though! You also get a nut mixture at the table. There was good wasabi peas in there! I like spicy food.
My mom, sister, and sister's BF arrived and we got sat right away! I guess Captains Grille just redid their menu, but all that looks different is the dessert menu. Here are some shots.
DisneyJune2011188.jpg

DisneyJune2011232.jpg

My mom also got a pina colada before to cool off. She asked for water and as you can see she got this HUGE glass bottle because it came with the dining plan.
DisneyJune2011190.jpg

3 of us got appetizers here. I ordered the Green Goddess Salad ($5.49). This tasted like a caesar salad but the dressing is semi caesar like except it has tarragon in it. It was very good and refreshing.
DisneyJune2011220.jpg

Dad ordered the wedge salad with egg, blue cheese, bacon, onion, and a balsamic cilantro vinaigrette. This is making me hungry right now!
DisneyJune2011227.jpg

Jessica got the clam chowder because she ordered the pick three which comes with an appetizer in the DP.
DisneyJune2011226.jpg

We also got bread & butter with sea salt. Good, but nothing special. It tasted like a rye bread.
DisneyJune2011189.jpg

For my entree, I ordered the Crab legs ($29.99). If I didn't get the salad I can tell you I would still be hungry after this! The crab wasn't the best quality and the legs were kinda small. The crab still tasted good though. This also came with redskinned potatoes and corn on the cob! Both good.
DisneyJune2011230.jpg

Jessica got the crab cakes. I tried these and they were very good! Although a little more breading than I like.
DisneyJune2011228.jpg

Dad and Mom got the steak. This was also good, I tried a bite of it. It was HUGE! This is the stone ground mustard NY Strip.
DisneyJune2011229.jpg

Now time for desserts=)
I had the hazelnut gianduja chocolate cake. I have NO idea what gianduja is. Does anyone have any idea? Dessert #6(I think). The top strip is like chocolate mousse which was very good, there is chocolate caviar which are little balls of chocolate crisp. This cake was just very good and really good texture.
DisneyJune2011236.jpg

DisneyJune2011235.jpg

We also got chocolate gelato.
DisneyJune2011234.jpg

Turtle Cheesecake with nougat candy and caramel. Tried a bite of this and it was good. When Josh got this delivered to him, he said, "What the? This is the smallest dessert I've ever seen!" It was funny and even the food runner laughed.
DisneyJune2011233.jpg

Mom got the sugar free option which was angel food cake with berry compote. I LOVE the hidden mickeys made with the blackberries and blueberries.
DisneyJune2011231.jpg

Overall, this was a really nice meal. Our server was EXCELLENT!! Her name was Jing and she was from an Asian country and had a very strong accent so it was a little hard to understand her but she was so thourough, brought everything we needed, and was just all around great. We were here a long time, a little over two hours. I assume it is because of the three course meal we had. I rate this meal a 3/4. Everything was great besides the entree. That was just mediocre but still good.

Mmmmmm Ohana! I wish we could eat there this next trip again. But we have other places for the kids to try and that we want to try. I can only dream of the bread pudding until then :cloud9:
It is good! Now I don't think I could skip Ohana. I think I have a goal for every trip to try at least 3 new places!

Right now Ohana is #1 on my list of places I want to try next time in Disney! (This upcoming trip we have our ADRs pretty set and want to go to all of them). I keep reading more good reviews and it looks so delicious. I love anything with tropical flavors, so the coconut bread, honey lime dressing, everything sounds delicious! Not to mention the tropical drinks ;)
Yes, you need to try it. It is a Disney staple and sooo good.

I just don't understand how people complain about Ohana - I just about died of happiness when we were there! :)

I dont either. It was amazing.

They sure do have shrimp sauce! It is very yummy!!! I wouldn't go to Teppan Edo unless you really want to try it. The dessert if unique if you are a dessert person.
I understand everything but AG. What does that stand for?? Do you live in Hudson??

I work at American Girl (AG)! I live in River Falls (close to Hudson!). I can't wait to go to Ohana in August I :lovestruc meat and potstickers! And I think I'll stick to a regular drink at a lower price rather than go for the lapu lapu. Thanks for the tip![/QUOTE]
Oh thats cool that you work there!! That store is really cool how there is the restaurant in it too.

We went to Ohana on our second trip and thought the food was amazing! We all just loved it there. We couldn't get reservations last year and I was very disappointed so hopefully, on our next trip, we'll be able to eat there again. I really enjoyed the noodles very much and we ordered seconds on the bread pudding! The entertainment is a little corny but DS (7 at the time) had fun. :goodvibes
I wish we would have ordered seconds!!

Great review of O'hana! Mmm at all that food! :cloud9:

Also loved the Main Street Bakery goodies! :thumbsup2

Thanks!!!

That chocolate muffin picture looks so good I could eat it off the computer screen!

Haha I would like to see that!

It is quite amazing. I love the polynesian.

Subscribing!! Love the details of your reviews so far!!
Thank you very much!!!

Love your reviews! Can't wait to read more :)

Thanks!

I know 'Ohana always seems to get mixed reviews here but we absolutely loved it. Loving these reviews :thumbsup2

Love me some Ohana too!!!

I'm so jumping on this fabulous food train !! great reviews and pics so far !! can't wait to read more ! :cool1:

Thanks for the kind words!

The key lime pie actually looks pretty good. So does your pork sandwich. We really enjoyed the Flametree BBQ when we were there but I can't remember now what we had. :goodvibes

It looks good until you take a bite =) Haha, no if you go and want it try it. You might like it. I have heard some good things about it just not from me. I love key lime pie but this was like straight up lime gel.

So I had never actually heard of the Captain's Grille until now. But it looks pretty good! I love crab legs, but I always find that they aren't that filling, so I can see how you would still be hungry. And by the way, that cocktail you got? It sounds tasty but it looks like an awful lot of ice in that glass for a $10.50 drink!!

gianduja is kind of like nutella. it's a mixture of hazelnut and chocolate. you can find it in specialty food stores. people use it on ice cream or cookies.

You should have gone to Cape May for all you can eat crab legs...not much more money and you could have eaten all of them :lmao:

There was a lot of ice! Too much ice. Thats one of the reasons I didn't care for it.

Thanks for the info! That makes sense.

I know =) I tried every single day to get reservations there but they were all too late for us! We went to Cape May this past Dec and loved it and will be going back again this December.

So I know this is supposed to be Disney food but I can't resist sharing these pictures. There is a local cupcake shop called Sweet Retreat and I am obsessed with their cupcakes. Honestly, the best cupcakes ever. All natural ingredients and the buttercream frosting is to die for.
Here are my pics (3 for me, one for my boyfriend)
JessicasGrad075.jpg

Clockwise- Coconut, Mocha(my fav), Red Velvet, and White Chocolate Raspberry.

Ok, now that I detered from the feature, onto Sci Fi for Lunch!
Lunch was at 12:40 so after we got our picture with Chewbacca we headed into the waiting area and waited about 20 minutes. I can't believe how many people were coming in with reservations and expecting to be sat. That was actually us in 2006, we didn't know we needed reservations so we didn't have reservations for Sci Fi, they just sat us at one of those picnic tables.
There was 6 of us so we were the perfect size for the car.
DisneyJune2011270.jpg

They have cute Mickey shapes on every car so I took a picture.
DisneyJune2011272.jpg

After I took this I realized just how dirty these carbooths are. Since it is so dark in there I wonder how well the bussers actually clean the cars. How often can they deep clean this restaurant? It just kind of grossed me out a little bit. It is a fun experience but the tables to rest your food are so narrow. You can barely fit things on the table.
Here is the menu pic.
DisneyJune2011265.jpg

We all started out with milkshakes. I had the cookies n creme($4.69) which was amazing!! Dessert #20! I love this and it is nice you can get as a drink on the dining plan.
DisneyJune2011268.jpg

Mom got the BLT soup ($4.99) which was a tomato basil soup topped with bacon, crouton, lettuce, and bacon. She was so happy when she found out they had BLT soup because she had this years ago from somewhere and said it was amazing. She liked this but it didn't taste quite like the other one she had.
DisneyJune2011271.jpg

I had the Shrimp Pasta with shrimp, olive oil, garlic, basil, and tomatoes. This was not good. It was drenched in oil and it was soooo garlicy it was almost spicy. It was just way to oily and garlicy. I ate some of the noodles but really only liked the shrimp. That was the best part. This entree is pretty expensive too at $21.99. I wish I would have ordered the Beef N Blue Salad but fell victim to the dining plan and ordered the most expensive option.:guilty:
DisneyJune2011273.jpg

Mom got the turkey sandwich was tomatoes, turkey, avocado:thumbsup2, and a wheat bread. This comes with those cucumbers which I really like. She didn't care for her sandwich that much. She said it was too big. I tried it and really liked it. Look at the size of those tomatoes on the sandwich. They are huge!! I would have gotten this if I wasn't paying with our dining plan. The sandwich is only $12.99
DisneyJune2011274.jpg

Since just my Dad and I were the only ones using the dining plan we got desserts. I ordered the Cheesecake which was actually red velvet cake with cheesecake. They need to change the description on the menu because the menu says just cheesecake with raspberry sauce and treats. I can see raspberry sauce but where are the treats and it doesn't mention anything about it being red velvet cake as well. This was yummy but I wish it would have had more raspberry sauce. Price on this is $6.99. Dessert #7!
DisneyJune2011278.jpg

Dad got the Apple Cobbler with my persuasion. Haha. This was soo good!!! I wish I would have gotten this all to my self. The only problem was it was so hot that it burnt my tongue and I had a burnt tongue for like 2 days. Still very good though. This was $6.99 too I think. The desserts seem expensive here.
DisneyJune2011276.jpg

We also had a problem with our waitress. She was an older woman with brunette hair and didn't do anything wrong, she just wasn't friendly. She came over twice to take our order, one with my mom in the bathroom and one with my brother in the bathroom. If someone was missing why would she try to take our order?? When we said no we didn't know what they wanted she walked away and didn't say anything and seemed mad! She also made us order dessert with our meal, which is fine to me but I thought it was a little weird. I have heard of that happening when on the DP but never to me. She just wasn't a very friendly person and I feel when you are a server at Disney you have to be very friendly. We got everything we needed though!.

All in all, I give Sci Fi two stars out of four. Their entrees are lacking and the server wasn't the best. Dessert and environment are the two pluses! I have been to this restaurant three times and it was two times too many! I won't be going again till I have young kids.

Onto Snacks! Im going to do like three a post.
Create Your Own Pretzels at Goofys in Downtown Disney Dessert #8
I am sorry; I have no picture for this. They were really pretty though! I got three pretzels all dipped in white chocolate and all drizzled in milk chocolate. The three were dipped in butterfinger, peanut butter chips, and cinnamon sugar. The cinnamon sugar one was SOOOO good. That was by the far the best. Then butterfinger, then peanut butter chips. These were sooo expensive. For three pretzel rods, they were $9.54!! For some reason I thought they were a snack credit. I came all the way to Downtown Disney by myself just to get these so I wasn't going to not get these. It took an hour and a half just to go to DTD and get pretzels and come back.

Dole Pinneaple Bar at Animal Kingdom Dessert #9
Yummy! This is my new favorite snack. So refreshing, and to me, much better than the pineapple dole whip.
DisneyJune2011177.jpg

Snacks at Starring Rolls Dessert #10
Rachel got a very messy brownie covered in M&Ms
DisneyJune2011288.jpg

Jessica got tiramisu
DisneyJune2011289.jpg

I had the very delectable Banana Split!! This was heavenly. The bottom is like a thick pie crust(only part I didn't like; it was very hard), the middle is a banana flavored mousse with actual chunks of banana in it! The top had whipped cream and chocolate. I used a snack credit but believe it was about $3.99.
Here is a picture before with the plastic wrap around the sides
DisneyJune2011286.jpg

Here is a pic after I took the plastic wrap off. It was very hard to do this. It is taped on the side and the tape wouldn't come off and since the dessert is soft you can't put pressure on the sides.
DisneyJune2011287.jpg

Here is a during so you can see what the inside looks like. Once again, SO good.
DisneyJune2011291.jpg

Fantasmic Snacks
After I got back from Pizza Planet they had food waiting for me =) Haha, just kidding, it was their food. They had popcorn, which actually I ended up eating most of it. That was my first experience with Disney popcorn and it was perfect.
DisneyJune2011306.jpg

My mom got this Fantasmic platter with bread, brie, grapes, apples, and three chocolate covered strawberries. That looks so good!!! I want to say it was about $14 but I am not entirely sure. This would be the perfect late night dinner and this is exactly what it was for her.
DisneyJune2011304.jpg

Close up of butterfinger covered strawberry. Yummy.
DisneyJune2011305.jpg

OK the pictures of the FOOD at Sci-Fi look good but the tables and booths... ewwww! I have to say it makes me not want to eat there!

I need to make it to Starring Rolls on our next trip...that banana split looks great! We so wanted to try the Fantasmic snack your mom had but we were too full from dinner..there is always a next time!

Geez I am on a roll today! This counter service meal is only me, I apologize. I walked all the way to Pizza Planet from Tower of Terror just because I wanted Pizza Planet. I go there every trip.

I got the pepperoni pizza. I love this pizza. The crust is so doughy and yeasty and I actually really like Disney pizza! I know a lot of people don't though.
DisneyJune2011299.jpg

The combo comes with a side caesar salad, which is also very good. Crisp lettuce and just enough dressing.
DisneyJune2011300.jpg

Now this is where the real treat comes in! They had special Star Wars cupcakes for Star Wars weekend. They only had one kind though. It was a chocolate peanut butter Darth Vadar cupcake. It was $3.99. Dessert #11. I knew the cupcake would be too much for me to finish but I got it anyways because it was new to me and the only other thing I would get there is the Mickey Rice Krispie treat.
DisneyJune2011301.jpg

Wow!!! This thing was massive!! I swear it weighed two pounds..Lol!
DisneyJune2011302.jpg

I literally only ate a couple bites of this. It was way too chocolatey and too sweet. The chocolate peanut butter frosting was good and most of what I ate was the frosting.
