For once, since moving to Alaska, I totally wish I still lived in Houston!!! We'd so be there if we lived close by!!!

Hi crew,

The wife (whose handle escapes me) and I booked today. It'll be our first Disney cruise and my first cruise period.

I'm sure she'll be along shortly to join in all the discussions....I know she's wicked excited for the champagne and tiaras. :)

Welcome! Welcome!! We're so glad you could join us on the cruise! Please don't hesitate to ask any questions.

He's right - I am SO excited for the champagne party. I will sign up tonight!

I would also be interested in the FEs, lanyards, meet, etc - but have to be honest - as this is our first Disney cruise, I'm a bit overwhelmed. Any chance someone can provide some background on the FEs - maybe some photos/examples?

Can't wait to meet you all - yippee! :cool1:

To sign up for the lanyards see a link in TraditionatSea's posts--just add your info to the google doc. They are specially made lanyards that will be cruise specific and you can only get them through disboards.

As of right now, I believe that disboards meet is scheduled for embarkation day, 3:00 at the Promenade Lounge (Deck 3 aft). This will be a time and place to meet the other disboarders cruising with you.

FE:
The FE or fish extender, is a set of pockets that hangs (extends) from the fish next to your stateroom door. The fish is actually a place for cast members to leave notes and what not, but on a Panama Canal cruise, a disboarder came up with the idea to put a set of pockets there and then give gifts to others. So...those participating in a FE group will make or purchase a gift (either per cabin, per family, or per person) for those particpating in the group, and they will deliver those gifts by placing them in the FE. (I hope that wasn't too confusing...it made sense in my head).

There are several threads concerning the FE, including some that already have pictures and what not. Try searching the main DCL forum for 'FE' and they will pop up. I will try to look for a FE picture.

Oh yeah! I'm so glad you're joining us on the cruise!! :cool1:

Thank you! I've spent the evening looking for FE background and ideas, and have found some REALLY helpful info - so thank you! We'll sign up for the various lists - found some additional background on that too, so thank you! Can you tell I'm excited? :)

Anyone have experience with the scuba excursions at these locations? We are considering Grand Cayman and Cozumel - we just earned our scuba certs last year so this is still pretty new- are these good dives, worth the cost compared with the other excursions?

If anyone else has recommendations for our first DCL, let us know! We are game for pretty much anything and appreciate your direction! Looking at Palo dinner and brunch - any thoughts on which? or both? :) Just us two adults so have some flexibility!

Thanks all!

:welcome: to the group! Sorry, I didn't get your names.

Sarah has explained the FE to you pretty well. To join FE and Champagne Girls just sign up on the links in my signature at the bottom of this post.

SCUBA!!! oh yes, let's talk about scuba... DH and I are both scuba instructors. We have dove in Grand Cayman and Cozumel many times. We do plan on doing dives there during the cruise. We are certifying my cousin in a couple weeks so this will be her first blue water dive ever. There are awesome dives at both locations. We have chosen to only do shore diving mostly due to my cousin needing to stay close to her daughter. The shore diving at both locations is very good. I would say better probably at Grand Cayman. The Cozumel dive we plan on doing will be at Chancanaab Park. We plan on taking a taxi to the park. Look up Chancanaab Park on google, it is a cool place. In Grand Cayman the shore dive will be closer to the port. You are certainly welcome to dive with us if you wish. The boat dives are very much worth the cost but you will need to be very careful about the time it takes to do the dives. Just make sure you don't miss the boat.. :rotfl2:

As far as Palo's goes... I would do both. The dinner is wonderful and brunch is awesome! If some of you are interested we could even do a group brunch. The private room holds 12 - 14 people and we could reserve that one morning. It is fun to get together and chat during the cruise. Any thoughts?

Also just as a helper... sign ups for lanyards is on page 7.

Here is the link for the lanyard list

You have to post 10 posts before you can send a PM. If you want lanyards made please notify traditionatsea with your info. There is a link a few pages back that is for lanyards. I will add you to the roll call list, but TraditionAtSea needs the info for lanyards as well.

Here is the link for the Lanyard List -Cabin Numbers are key in case we dont meet up the lanyards can be delivered

Special disboards lanyards are being made for the cruise, so please ensure that I have the correct spelling of the first names for all of those cruising with you. Also please make sure that I have your room number, so that the lanyards can be delivered if we do not meet up.

I've added myself and DH to the lanyards list, I couldn't find the link either, so thanks for reposting it. :)

Also, I saw someone mention above-thread that they were looking for table mates to link reservations? We're also in main dining but not sure how many people are thrilled with the prospect of sharing a table with a baby! lol

These will be our first blue water dives as well. Our past dives were VERY brown water right after our quals to finish our tanks (6-12" visibility and 68 degree water...yay for former quarries and 7mil suits) and then two aquarium dives (the Georgia Aquarium "Gentle Giants" program and Epcot DiveQuest).

We're currently planning on doing the dive excursions through Disney to make sure we don't miss the ship...especially since its our first cruise with DCL. :cool1:

Any experience diving Costa Maya? Deciding if its worth it to toss on a third dive day onto the cruise or if two is plenty.

Not to go crazy :offtopic: but if you've got any advice for fledgling divers, I/we're all ears. I'm debating grabbing my Advanced PADI cert this summer and potentially a Deep cert. Rescue Diver down the road and potentially Public Safety Diver are also in my sights.

Howdy Y'all

The DCL event in Houston on July 31st is full, but I will be happy to take a wait list in case someone drops out.

Fairy Godmother Travel

ps
We will be there waving Bon Voyage to the Magic as she sails out on the 22nd--have to keep the tradition that started at Port Canaveral going! There is also a Navy warship being commissioned so you will be sailing by her too. She will be on the right hand side of the ship as you are sailing out.

PPS
I provided a lot of the information for the Passporter's guide about Galveston (not out yet) so if you have any questions please feel free to ask! I also live about 45 minutes away from Galveston so am quite familiar with the area.

Sounds like a good plan Jon. We may be teaching an advance class to my cousin on the trip so if you want to join in, once again you are welcome. We have not dove Costa Maya but we have dove a little further north in Playa Del Carmen. Diving is wonderful all along the peninsula. We are thinking it would be tight on time to try to dive in Costa Maya. We are not in port long there.

If this is your first blue water dive you will love any of the diving at these ports. We would be more than happy to give you some pointers. Maybe we can meet on the cruise and chat about diving.

Is Secret Mickey the same as FE?

Anyone have any diy craft ideas of any kind?:yay:

The Secret Mickey is different than the FE. The Secret Mickey is much like a secret santa. you will be assigned 1 person that you will be a Secret Mickey for. You will bring a gift or gifts valued at about. $20 to $25 for that person. At the end of the cruise we will meet and reveal who is whoms secret mickey.

Secret Mickey

Just a reminder that the Secret Mickey sign up will close on August 15. Anyone interested in joining the Secret Mickey gift exchange needs to PM me so I can put you on the list. I will be sending out the name of the person you will be a Secret Mickey for no later than August 22.
This is a fun event much like a Secret Santa. Really a fun thing for the kids. Let me know if you have any questions.

Champagne Girls

This is a really fun event. A chance to put on those pink boas and tiaras for a fun drink with some friends. We will plan to meet at one of the bars about 1:30 or 2pm on the first sea day.If you want to join this fun event please sign up on the link below.

Fish Extender Gift exchange.

Be sure to sign up on the FE list. If you have kids you won't want to miss out on this one. This will truly make your child's and your cruise magical. It is so fun to return to your cabin and find that little surprise in your FE. Please sign up on link below.
