22 Sept 2012. First Sailing Out Of Galveston, TX

Thanks Piper and Bats for the pixie dust!! I sure hope this works out - I would love to sail on the Magic - I have heard so many wonderful things about her! We loved the Wonder, so I know we will love the Magic. We also loved the Dream, but it is so different that you can't compare it to the smaller ships. Our server on the Dream was from the Magic and he loved that ship! Okay, now off to spread that pixie dust!

Well, I am leaving you. My sister just found out that her Gideon state convention for next year (which is usually the first weekend in October) will be during the weekend of the 26th of Sept. Since both she and her husband are very involved (hold offices,) that isn't going to work.

The convention will be held in Galveston, so we are changing to the sailing on the 29th. I am going to go to the convention and we will just leave from the hotel!

I am sorry that I won't be meeting all of you. I know you'll have a great time!

Mixed news from us today ...

The good news is we're still cruising, just not with you guys anymore :sad2:

My work have said that I can't go on leave during Sept 2012 now as we'll be finishing up the Olympics (it's who I work for).

So, we've had to push our cruise backwards slightly to October .. bearing this in mind, we decided to book onto the Fantasy Eastern Caribbean instead.

We're sorry not to be cruising with you all, but my work got in the way ... :sad1:

Hey Ya'll,
Well we moved from Houston in June only to return next sept to cruise with everyone. My wife Sarah (Hamm1207) and myself are joining ya on the first Galveston cruise. See ya'll there!

Does anyone know if there is something special going for this for cruise since it is the first cruise out of this port??

Sadly, my guess would be no. They did not do anything special for the first repositioning cruise from LA to Vancouver. However, it is Disney so you never know, and I sure hope they do something special. A lot of us on the Repo were disappointed that they didn't do anything, and we were sure to make it known.

Thank you for the information, I do hope they do something different since it is the first cruise for this port. We are getting super excited to go!!!

Well the Martin family Matt,Diana,Thomas,Landon and paycee Kaye will be crusing in Sep. It is our first Cruise so we are really excited!!1

In 2010 we went to Disney World for the first time for two weeks and boy was that fun.

Anyway, I can't wait to visit with a few familys before we get on board.

Welcome to disboards and welcome to the cruise! My husband and I went on our (his 2nd) first disney cruise in May 2010, now it's really the only way we vacation.

Mind if I join ya? I'm Sheri, and will be sailing on the Magic with my DH, DD (turning 10 on the cruise), and my parents. We've cruised on the Wonder and Dream and now it's time for the Magic. We've also cruised with Royal Caribbean & Carnival but DCL is better in every way, IMO.

Now that we're down to 6 months, I'm in super obsessive planning mode. Yes, I'm one of those people. ;)

Welcome! Welcome! The more disboards cruisers the better! Don't worry, you're not the only planner at 6 months out. We set sail on the Magic in 17 days for an eastern caribbean cruise, but when we get back i'll be planning for september! :cool1:

Hubs and I are joining y'all along with DD (who'll be just 13mos in September, heaven help us)! Super excited - I sailed on the Big Red Boat as a kid, dragged DH to WDW for our honeymoon, and now have duped him into a Disney cruise. Mwuahaha!

Embarkation is only a few days after our second wedding anniversary, and just about a month after DD's 1st birthday, so we're really looking forward to celebrating those milestones with a fantastic vacation.

A little frustrating not knowing exactly what to expect since there aren't any old Navigators for reference since our itinerary is the first, isn't it? Hubs keeps asking about Port Adventures and I keep making myself dizzy trying to find info online. Plus trying to plan it all with the baby is ... :scared: lol

But, it's ALL GOOD and we can't wait!!

Welcome to the cruise!!!! Cruising with Mickey is the perfect way to celebrate anniversaries and birthdays. Be sure to add the celebrations to your reservation--you just say that you are celebrating them, and Disney will help you celebrate--you can get celebration buttons and special celebration desserts one night. :cool1:

Hello, all. DH, DD, DGD 4 and 6 and myself are all sailing out of Galveston on the October 6, 2012 cruise. I really want to know everything about it. From the cruise terminals to the menus to the shows etc. I am hoping someone on this board will give me the scoop. I would really appreciate it.

Things like do we have to pick boarding times? How was the terminal? Does Disney have its own terminal or are the using someone else's? How were the ports? Do you have some navigators? How crowded was the ship, just about anything you would like to share with me I would like to know. Thanks so much. I will check back on this board. Thank you

Best to All

On our last cruise I did some thinking about the first cruise out of Galveston. My husband reminded me that our West Coast Repositioning cruise was not actually the first cruise out of LA because they had been doing Mexican Rivieria cruises, so they may have done something special for the very first cruise out of LA. On the first trip into San Fran we were greeted by water cannons...so who knows! Hopefully they'll do something special!

Hi everyone... My name is Jill, I will be cruising with my DH Danny on this cruise. I am so excited to finally get to cruise out of Galveston. I was raised just a few miles form there.

Can you fill me in on what ya'll are planning? FE's etc...

thanks..

I see you are all wondering if there will be anything special about our cruise. I do know they had a ship stop in Galveston once due to weather but don't think they ever had any other cruises to or from there. I really feel like there will be a little hoopla for the first official cruise out of Galveston. Let's all hope so.

This thread seems to be very quiet. Sure hope we can get it going.

Anyone interested in starting a FE gift exchange?

Welcome to the cruise Jill and husband!!

A FE exchange sounds like a great plan to me! I'm guessing the thread will get going more as the time comes closer.

Has anyone thought about port adventures yet, or any plans for ports? Our only plan so far is to see ruins-just don't know what yet.

Pre/post cruise plans...we're flying down the day before and staying with friends (we lived in houston for 4 years). We're probably just going to drive around town and visit people. After the cruise, we're headin straight to the airport to catch a flight over to orlando to hop on the Dream the next day for a Bahamas cruise. What are your plans?

Sounds like great plans... especially the heading to Orlando part! Where are you living now?

We plan to come in on Fri. We live in Fort Worth but I lived in Houston area for 50 years so I have family and friends. We will be staying with my cousin Anita, her DH, Rene and her DD (15) Brandy. They are coming on the cruise as well.

We plan to do a little shore scuba diving in Grand Cayman or possibly go to the turtle farm. We have been there several times.

In Cozumel we are going to Chakanaab Park. There you can do so much.. swim with dolphins, sea lions or manatees. You can also dive, snorkel, swim. play in the sand or just relax and have a drink or food. There is also a small market to buy local trinkets. I have been there many times too.
Here is a link I suggest booking any swims with the mammals very early they will book up.

We have not made plans yet for Costa Maya... We only have a few hours there so be careful not to go off too far unless you book with the cruise ship.

I do hope more folks join us on the dis board.. it is so much fun to be part of the activities. I can start an FE sign up if anyone is interested just pm me. I will put you on the list.

If we have enough people interested we can also do a Secret Mickey gift exchange and a greet and meet.

I will try to check in daily until I leave for Fiji on May 7.

Well, we were pretty limited in our choices for Port Adventures with the little one in tow! But we have decided on these two, and hoping that we can get them since there's really nothing else for us if not:

Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman

Cozumel Highlights And Maya Ruins (this is the only one that seems to be doable with DD, as it's not too long and stroller-friendly)

Costa Maya we'll probably just play it by ear and explore a little on our own. DH is determined to get Montezuma's Revenge and just wants some real Mexican food and a cerveza or two. ;)

Pre/post cruise plans ... well, we live an hour from Galveston, so our plans are pretty dull there! lol

I've never done the FE thing, obviously. I'm hesitant to commit this far out, don't want to bite off more than I can chew! But will definitely think about it because it does sound cute. :)
