22 Sept 2012. First Sailing Out Of Galveston, TX

Joa, I used to be too thin and hated it (I'm 5'7" and weighed 103lbs...just couldn't gain weight)-- now that I can't exercise and am taking 15 pills a day, I no longer have that problem. I'm not thrilled to be overweight, but I am happy to be able to function!

Hi everyone, Just checking in to see how things are going.

Bats, What is the school schedule over there? When are the next holidays? I bet your mother is looking forward to them! (I always did!)

Lynda, have you booked yet? If so, what category did you and your mother end up with?

I'm looking forward to meeting both of you!

We will be sailing too. First timers, Carolyn and Alex. It should be interesting sailing out of Galveston. I was stationed in Corpus Christi for two years back in the 80's. I think the area has changed, Alex

Welcome Carolyn and Alex! It is my first time on DCL. I see you have done other cruise lines (me too.) I am very excited to have DCL sailing out of Galveston--I live in Katy, TX....just on the other side of Houston!

Welcome Carolyn and Alex :thumbsup2 We were on the reverse cruise from you last year .. Dover to Barcelona (we live around 45 minutes from Dover so was really easy for us)! You've got Maiden Voyage for Dream but the dates 6th Feb? Do you mean Jan 26th?

Piper ... school holidays here are normally a week in February, Easter week, 6 weeks during July and August, another week in October then Christmas/New year. In fact, they spend more time out of school than in!!!:confused3

Mum (Jen) and sister Wendy definitely coming now as mum got permission to have the time off. Wendy is on the Magic Med cruise in about 3 weeks so will book the Galveston cruise then ... she's also booking, wait for it .......

Me and Mick on a 4 night Dream cruise straight after the Galveston one!!:cool1::banana:
Plan is to get off the Magic, fly over to Orlando (airline recommendations very welcome please), stay at SSR with our DVC points, then motor on down to Port Canaveral on the Sunday ready to cruise on the Dream until Thursday and our flight home to the UK

The Galveston cruise will be our 5th Disney cruise which means that the 4 night Dream one will make us Gold Castaway members :thumbsup2 At last .. a Gold lanyard!!

Onto other things then .. the weather here in England has been superb this past few weeks but the garden is turning brown now as we've had no rain for ages. Tonight though, the sky has opened and the rain has fallen in a big way ... not like Florida rain, but heavy for the UK. The plants are a little happier tonight now!:)

Bats, Hobby airport is the closest to Galveston--not too far at all. You might research planes from there. I know Southwest and I think Air Tran are 2 of them that go to Orlando. I am sure there are others.

Wow! How super to go on the Dream. It sounds like a very nice vacation! This is my first DCL cruise, but I have done 4 on other lines.

Our school district gets a week at Thanksgiving, 2 weeks at Christmas, 1 week during March and then 10 weeks during the summer. I wish it were spread out a bit more. There used to be some 1/2 days, but they stopped that a few years ago. I couldn't take but 2 "personal days" and they could not be in conjunction with a holiday weekend! Vacations were always during the crowded times of year. I'm so glad I am retired now! I am glad your mother and sister are coming. I am looking forward to meeting all of you.

We are setting sail on 9.22.2012 too! Me, my hubby and 2 kiddos. We went on the dream last month and LOVE IT, so now we are going to try the Magic. We live in Dallas so this is pretty exciting to have a Disney Port so close to us. It will be a drive to Glaveston, any locals have recommedations on a hotel close to the port? We will prob drive down Friday night so we can board as soon as possible on Sat am. My kids have a count down going arleady...479 more days :-)

Welcome abeason! Several of the hotels let you park there free and have free transportation to and from the port. I have stayed at the Holiday Inn three times now and not had any porblems. Reasonably priced, clean rooms and good transportation.

Welcome aboard our merry little ship!!! How great it is to have the Magic right near you .. we had the same last year when she docked in Dover, UK .. less than an hour for us so it would have been rude not to book it!!
We're also staying over, flying in on the Thursday so we can get over the jet lag before boarding!

Piper, which Holiday Inn please .. there's 2. One called Holiday Inn, Galveston On The Beach, and the other called Holiday inn Sunspree Resort. Both are on Seawall Blvd.

I stayed at the one "on the beach." They have a free trolley that takes you to lots of restaurants, etc. One of them is the Rainforest Cafe.

Some of my shipmates stayed at the Sunspree and liked it, too. It provides transportation as well. You can't go wrong either way!

Well, I have some news .... last weekend I had a 40th birthday party and I made it an eventful night for sure.

Party Night

Make sure you read the accompanying text first so you know why I'm shouting out numbers .. my BIL filmed it not knowing what was happening so he missed the first bit.

Off on our Magic Med cruise in less than 60 days now!! :cool1:

What a clever idea....and the reaction was priceless!

Have fun on your Med. cruise!

We will be on this cruise too..my, my hubby, and 2 little ones (boy-7 and a girl 8). We are so excited!!!pirate:

I am new to this posting thing...LOL
But we are on this ship too...family of 4, two little ones 7 and 8!!!:cool1:

Welcome aboard!! :thumbsup2

Is this your first Disney cruise or have you been with them before? I see you live in Dallas, so not too far to travel thankfully. We have a 10 hour flight but we're coming in 2 days before so we can get rid of the darn jetlag!

We're off on a Disney Med cruise in 31 days (not that we're counting), so I'll post some pictures of it when we get back.

p.s. What are your names?

Joa & Mick

Hi all! I am trying to talk my DH into this cruise for my DS birthday - he will be turning 9 during this cruise. I am also trying to get his DM and a DN to go as well. Pray for pixie dust! We have sailed on the Wonder and just got off the Dream a few weeks ago. Now it's time to try the Magic while the prices on the Fantasy come down! Will let you know if we/when we book!

Sorry I didn't see this before now....my subscriptions are acting wacky! I'm sending you pixie dust right now!

Lots of PD being sent your way Princess Bette!!
I've luckily been on all 3 ships and the Magic is definitely my favourite ... not too big, not crowded even if its fully booked out and it has Lumiere's!!

Just got off the Med sailing on the Magic and am now sat at home counting down the days till we can join her again  A whole year and 3 weeks ...

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!:thumbsup2
