DAY 3 - Harry Potter - Disney's Old Key West Resort - Raglan Road
Another early get up, as today was check-out, but since we didn’t have to leave until 11:00, we took advantage for another early entry into WWHP. The ride queue was a lot smaller than yesterday and we were on the ride within 5 minutes. At the exit, we noticed that the lines were still quite small, so we went again.
This time we saw Martin (burt) and Craig ahead of us in the queue. Since we had not had breakfast, we called into BK in City Walk. Hotel check-out was done by 11:15, the luggage was left in the car on RPR car park (at $15 dollars a day I was determined to get my monies worth) and we returned to Universal. Shrek was the first ride with our final day FOTL pass and then across the road to Jimmy Neutron. As we came out of the ride, the heavens opened for a good 15 minutes at which point we decided to call it a day.
We drove to Old Key west to check in for 21 days complete with the regular dining plan. Our first visit to Florida was in 1993 and we have stayed on site 5 or 6 times, but this was to be our first encounter with the dining plan. Check-in was quick and we got assigned a lovely room (2120) overlooking the golf course and near to the quiet pool.
Showered and changed, we made our way to Raglan Road at Downtown Disney for our first ADR at 7:15.
Our table was near to a very small stand alone stage in the centre of the room. The local house dancers performed for a good 10 minutes and then an Irish musical duo played for the rest of the time.
Nigel: Mixed grill + Bailey’s Crème Brule + pint of Guinness + diet coke
Sue: Fish & Chips + Gers bread & butter pudding + Sangria + diet coke
Emma: Fish & Chips + diet coke
We left Raglan at around 8:30 and wandered around to West Side. There is a very talented guitarist who plays most evenings near to where the tethered balloon is located. His name is Dominic Gaudious and his unique playing style together with playing the didgeridoo is well worth a visit. (For those guitar fans reading, he has played alongside Joe Satriani and Steve Vai).
I first heard him last year at DTD where I purchased his CD and got chatting with him about who taught him etc. This year he remembered me, thinking it was only a few months ago when actually it was 12 months!. He has just released a live album recorded at DTD which I purchased. He very kindly gave me a signed DVD that he has recently recorded.
Back to OKW by 10:30 and straight to bed.
