DAY 14 - Animal Kingdom - 50's Prime Time Cafe
An early get up today, so that we could have EMH in Animal Kingdom. We arrived just on rope drop, so first port of call was to get fast passes for Expedition Everest. The standby line was very short, so we joined that, and were riding within 5 minutes. I noticed that the eagle is back when the train reaches the broken track, i seem to recall that this was missing last year for some reason?.
Exiting the ride, the standby line was still quite short, so we rode again. Since we had not had breakfast, we called at Kusafiri Coffee Shop & Bakery.
Nigel: Mixed fruit bowl + Apple Juice
Emma: Blueberry Muffin + Diet Coke
Sue: Cherry Danish + Water
We sat in a seating area outside of Tusker House, and managed to get a set of new TOT pins from a pin cart. Nearby were FP machines for Kilimanjaro Safari, so we picked up 3 tickets for later and also a few photos with Flick
. In the meantime, our Everest FP’s were now valid, so we made our way back to the ride. We came of the ride and checked the daily schedule, noticing that Finding Nemo show would be in 30 minutes. The sun was very hot, so a gentle stroll across to Nemo and................no people???????
The daily schedule was showing a wrong time, so about turn and back to Everest and collect another 3 FP’s. Kilimanjaro Safari was next to be done, and we manages to see a good selection of animals quite close up, even though it was very hot. After the safari, one of my favourite shows in all of the parks – The Festival of The Lion King. We were kept waiting outside for a good 15 minutes, with little or no shade. It puzzles me why Disney could not construct some form of overhead shading for the large crowd that always seems to gather for this show. As usual, the show was brilliant and over all too soon. Just outside, we met Pocahontas and Meeko.
Next on the list was It’s tough to be a bug. The crowd was big for this, and slow loading. People had sat in the middle of rows, causing a back log, and for some reason, the show started with people still entering, with quite a few of them having to stand. With the number of CM’s in the theatre, this was poorly managed.
A long walk again back to Everest for our fourth ride thanks to FP’s and then, due to the heat, we decided to leave the park.
Arriving back at OKW we decided to have a few hours in the quiet pool to cool off. Our ADR for tonight was 50’s Prime Time in MGM, so showered and changed we arrived at MGM for our 17:45 reservation. I had read quite a few reviews about this dining experience and had my own reservations. Without going into detail and spoiling it for future diners, it is one of the best CM interaction restaurants that Disney has.
The detail of the decor brings back many memories, including a novel way to view the dessert menu.
Sue: Mom’s Old-Fashioned Pot Roast + Caramel Ice Cream Sundae + Diet Coke
Nigel: Char-Grilled Butcher Tender Steak + Hot Fudge Sundae + Diet Coke
Emma: Aunt Liz’s Golden Fried Chicken + 50’s Boston Cream Cup Cake + Coke Float
Overall, a dining experience that we all enjoyed and hope to return again in the future.
On our way out of the restaurant, we had our photograph taken to be added to our Photopass card. I asked the photographer if he did any special ‘magic’ photos. He kindly took us to various parts of the park and we await our ‘surprises’
After our meal, we had originally planned to visit Downtown Disney using the boat from OKW, but noticed that the days final of American Idol was being broadcast on the large outdoor screen, so we stayed to watch it.
Time was pressing on, so we decided to stay in the park and make use of EMH for the rest of the evening. Tower of Terror was the first ride we headed for, with a 10 minute wait time,
Rock N Roller coaster, was next, but the standby was showing 45 minutes, so we gave it a miss. A stroll around the rest of the park, and it was deserted in places.
After taking a few photos, we left the park at around 10 o’clock and headed for our beds.
