Hello family of 3 DD19 - looking for March 2019 Spring Break ideas that are WARM WEATHERED.Not Disney...

I found Gavelston Texas but cannot tell if that is a fit for my family. We are NOT Huge water people but do enjoy warm weather and activity (not water sports). Enjoy museums, animal tours or aquariums, food tours, etc.

DH and I were in Florida Keys a few weeks ago and enjoyed it but felt not enough entertainment outside of the resort for DD. I have considered Hilton Head but a little worried weather not the best in March (maybe I am wrong?).Cruise does not interest us....We love San Diego/CA area but going there this summer before Aulani so looking to stay East Coast or as far as Florida or Texas..Thanks for ideas!!!!!!

While I love Hilton Head, the weather is very iffy in March. How about Fort Myers Beach, or Siesta Key and Sarasota. Both have great beaches. From Ft Myers youcan do a day trip and bike around Sanibel and Captiva. The beach is fun with lots of restaurants and shops, there is also outlet shopping in Fort Myers. Could also do a boat ride or sunset sail and day trip to Naples.

If you went to Siesta Key you could visit Sarasota which has museums and food tours.

I think I would definitely choose either of these over Galveston.

If you wanted Texas, what about San Antonio?

Thank you! They both sound like great options. I’ll look ok into it!

Have you considered visiting the French Quarter in New Orleans? Warm weather, foodie paradise, plenty of tours, museums, & of course live music everywhere as well as impromptu parades! They also have a terrific zoo & aquarium. We love it there.

TX native growing up in Houston area...Love my home state but Galveston is not anywhere I want to spend more than a day...it's just not that desirable of a destination. In TX, I'd chose San Antonio in a heartbeat over Galveston.

I'm not familiar with other locations suggested by PP but they sounds lovely compared to Galveston.

Tampa/Clearwater/Clearwater Beach.

There’s a Busch Gardens in Tampa. Tampa also has a number of museums.

The aquarium in Clearwater is nice and is also home to Winter, the dolphin that the movie Dolphin Tale is based on.

If your family likes baseball at all, the Yankees play spring training in Tampa. The Phillies in Clearwater and Toronto plays in the next town over (Dunedin).

We did San Antonio a couple years ago for spring break and loved it. We stayed in San Antonio for a few days and did the river cruise, lots of eating out, Breckinridge Park, and some historical sights. We also went to the Natural Brodge caverns which were really cool and they have a fun ropes course there as well. We got a great deal at the Hotel Contessa right on the river. It’s all suites so great for a family. There is also the Doseum, the SA zoo, and the Japanese & botanical gardens that we didn’t have time for.

Then we moved to the Hyatt Wild Oak for a few days. This was a beautiful timeshare property and you could also use the facilities at the Hyatt hotel across the street. The hotel was amazing with one of the nicest pool and lazy river areas I’ve ever seen. We did Aquatica and Seaworld on separate days and spent a couple days at both hotels Both Aquatica and Seaworld were smaller than the ones in Fl but still a lot of fun. Lots of people asked what the heck we were going to do in San Antonio for a whole week but it was actually a great trip.

Texan here. Do not follow up a trip to Hawaii with a trip to Galveston. You will be sorely disappointed.

San Antonio, however is my favorite destination in the state. Austin is close enough for a day or two there as well. Fredericksburg can be another cool little side trip. I'm anti Sea World but Fiesta Texas (a Six Flags park) is small and a fun day.

If you do San Antonio, I would stay on the River Walk for a couple of nights and then do a couple at the Hyatt Hill Country Resort.

Op here! THank you! So the internet can make things look enticing! so I glad I asked....I think my takeway so far here is San Antonio or Naples are both good contenders!!

Okay, so it's a bit farther than your parameters, but have you thought about Costa Rica? There is SO much to do - hiking, rafting, beaches, tours in the rainforests, zip lining, etc. DH and I went before kids (I was actually pregnant with kid #1 at the time), and are waiting for DD to get big enough to go back (the older boys are already itching to go). It's truly amazing how much varied wildlife you can see while barely even trying.

I live in Houston and do a day trip to Galveston once every few years, but go to San Antonio several times a year. We do have family there, but there is always something fun to do there.

Oh it is funny you suggested that. Adventures By Disney goes there and we looked at that trip as a contender. I have a lot of Southwest points to use and the flight there from here is full of long layovers for some reason so I kind of turned away from it due to the time constraint of this trip but I will keep it on the radar...THANKS!

Another Houstonian here and I agree with the rest - I wouldn't do Galveston. Plus, in March the weather can be hit or miss in all of Texas. Sometimes its warm, but then we'll get these cold fronts and it can get quite cold, windy and rainy. If you want real warmth, go to south Florida or leave the country. lol.

What about Pensacola FL? It has the Naval aviation museum, the children's museum, and many other things to do. The weather is wonderful and there are hotels on the beach if you want those or there are some great Airbnb properties to chose from.

Cruise! NCl or Carnival would be great for your teens. My kids outgrew DCL but their favorite line is NCL.We are booked on the Carnival Horizon for Spring break 2019. We will have 4 teens with us. ( 18-20) They are excited about the activities onboard. Some people love RCCL but it is not for us unless we can get a really good deal.( we don't like the layout of the ships).

This is an awesome area. We've gone to this area the past 2 spring breaks. The beaches are gorgeous and there is a lot of other stuff to do too.

Charleston, SC - My hometown. It has the beach, historic section of town, a nice aquarium, several plantations. You could take a boat to Fort Sumter, eat wonderful seafood. I really think it is the neatest town on the east coast.

We loved St. Augustine when we went last fall - there is a lot to do...plus the beach! A ton of history, good food, shopping, easy to get around..
