In 2014, Disboard poster Geemo started a thread that listed the major conventions, events, and school breaks at or near DLR. Dis'ers seemed to find the thread helpful, so a 2015 version and a 2016 version were created. This is a continuation of those threads, but for 2017!

This is NOT an official Calendar, for reference only. This is also not an all inclusive list, but I will do my best to keep it up to date. Please let me know if you hear of anything to add to the list.

Notes
This list does not include all of the conventions/events scheduled at the Anaheim Convention Center. It is only a partial listing. A full listing is available on the Anaheim Convention Center Calendar.
http://www.anaheim.net/calendar.aspx?CID=26,
In terms of the conventions, for the most part, it doesn't seem like the conventions necessarily increase crowds in the parks. Large conventions are more likely to impacts availability at area hotels/motels and crowds in DTD (primarily in the evenings). There maybe some impacts of the days immediately before or after the conventions, but only a few conventions seem to actually result in Dis'ers reporting higher than expected crowds in the parks themselves. So, while large (or at least ones that look large on the calendar) conventions are listed in the calendar above, it does not mean that the parks will be busier than expected.

The Honda Center may also host events that could impact crowds at Disneyland.

Tom Bell maintains a list of Disneyland Events on wdwinfo.
http://www.wdwinfo.com/disneyland/events.html

There are a number of unofficial park days that happen throughout the year. Some are fairly large and can impact park crowds (e.g., Gay Days), while others (most) are fairly small and most guests won't notice that they are occurring.

*Starred events have historically began/occurred in that month, but the dates for 2017 have not yet been announced.

School Breaks
Below are a listing of some of the school breaks for select school districts. Some school districts have more than one schedule; when this occurred, I generally used the dates for the "Traditional" track (rather than "Year Around", "Modified", etc.). Mickey's Halloween Party, 2017
Party dates were announced on Saturday, July 15, 2017 via the Disneyland website (Saturday, July 15) and on the Parks Blog (Monday, July 17). Tickets go on sale to DLR Annual Passholders, DVC, and Disney Rewards Visa Card Holders (phone only) on Monday, July 17 and to the general public on Monday, Jul 24. The dates when the MHP tickets sold out in past were tracked in these posts for 2014, 2015, and 2016.

Pricing is listed as Advance Ticket Price/Annual Passholder/DRVC Advance Ticket Price/Date-of-Event Ticket Price.

Note that costume guidelines changed for 2016. The new guidelines can be viewed on the MHP page of the Disneyland.com website.

Disclaimer: Even if the date is listed as sold out online, it is possible that tickets may still be available via the phone or in person at the ticket booths (this occurred in the past, but it is not known if it'll happen again in 2017). A limited number of tickets may also be available for "day of" purchase for onsite hotel guests, but it is not known if that will be the case again this year. It also looks like they stop selling tickets to MHP online on the day of the event. So if you want to purchase tickets online, be sure to buy them at least one day in advance.

Thank you!! This is so helpful. :worship:

I came to check this out because I'm trying to plan around my younger DD's birthday (Mar 14) who says she wants to celebrate it at DL. I was shocked when I saw the prices for the DL Hotel around that time... $500+ a night for a standard room?? A bit of a surprise for an "off-season" visit. Do the AZ Spring breaks really affect the hotel capacity that much?!

I don't know how much impact Arizona schools have on hotel capacity and rates by themselves, but based on the rates around that time, I'm guessing you're feeling the impacts of early Spring Breaks. Historically, Spring Break "season" starts somewhere in mid-March and runs through Easter (sometimes ending on Easter, sometimes running for another week). Spring Break "season" is only somewhat tied to Easter because a lot of schools take the Spring Break at the same time each year, regardless of when Easter occurs.

I live in Arizona and we were annual pass holders last year. Most of the schools here have earlier spring breaks and I think lots and lots of those people head off to disneyland. I know anu time my husband had on an Arizona state hat it got almost ridiculous how many arizonans commented on it at the parks.

Los Angeles Unified has stated they are moving back the start dates for the new school year.

The week of August 22nd in 2017.

And then the week of August 28th in 2018 and beyond.

So they are moving away from the mid-August start, and since LAUSD is the largest school district by far near Disneyland, it will have an impact on those coming in the second half of August.

Oh oh...so if we are looking at coming Aug 14th, then it may be busier than normal? This week is still blocked for AP holders.

Yes, LAUSD is the second largest School District in the Nation, so that has a lot of kids planning once last outing before classes start.

As for who is blocked out, Deluxe and higher are allowed in, the current SoCal Select isn't, but the NEW SoCal "regular" pass announced today has not had its blockout dates announced yet, but it will more liberal than the "Select" version.

Yeah, I know that only the two lower APs are actually blocked. It must make a difference though as many comment not to come the first week when the block isl lifted.

As for the LAUSD news, that just complicates things now and (selfishly) really sucks. We're Canadian and so can come the week before labor day (i.e. marked as lower crowds), but I was thinking of backing up our trip to the 14th in order to catch Haunted Mansion. Sounds silly to move a trip for one ride, but it's DD's and my very favourite ride at WDW (plus I'm limited on rides due to health issues and HM is one that is totally fine). But now, if a big impact on crowds that week, I don't know. Ugh.

PS - The 'old' SoCal pass lists most of the summer as blocked. Would it not be the same for the "re-opening up" of selling the pass again?

If the Western Foot and Ankle Conference really something that would make parks super crowded?!

I don't know...most conferences don't really have a huge impact on the parks. I don't know, but I don't think, that's the reason for the AP blockout on June 22/23. I just listed it because another Dis'er mentioned it previously, so I try to carry forward the conferences/events/activities that happen yearly.

Thanks so much for compiling all this information. I can imagine that it took a little while to do this! But it really helps in planning.

My kids are teens and young adults now, but I remember when they were smaller we would just go whenever we wanted to go, never a thought to what was going on in the parks, or worrying about crowds. Planning a trip has definitely changed over the years, as crowds have increased. I can remember when spring break was a nice time to go because the parks were pretty quiet. That sure changed!
