It won't be long now until you are actually eating that Mickey Bar!:) My 17 yr. old daughter asked yesterday if she could start packing....I was like what!!! We still have 57 days.

Here's to hoping that your daughter puts something...anything...in her suitcase soon.:goodvibes

You raised her right!!! ::yes:: As for my DD...nothing..nada..empty darn suitcase...:faint: lol...

I contemplated getting the suitcases out soon, and we have 58 days lol.

You and abk's DD are on the same track! Its NEVER too early to start preparing for a Disney vacation!!! IMHO...:)

sounds like we are going to have an amaZing time!!! I cNt wait! It's my dream resort! Thanks for the info!!

You're very welcome!! :goodvibes I am sure your stay will be simply Grand!! :lovestruc

Good Morning Grand Friends!

Long time no "see"!

Didn't know if it had been posted or not, but items from the old resort rooms are being sold at Own the Magic-
the Hidden Mickey desk, the Mickey lamp, the art work.:(:( Some of it has to be picked up but I figured I'd pass it on to everyone in case they wanted a token of what used to be. :worried:

Hi JoBird :goodvibes Thanks for the info!! Nothing like owning a bit of the magic! :thumbsup2

Thank you for sharing this information! One Mickey lamp and sweet wall art will soon be on their way to my house! It makes me feel much better about the renovation and loss of all the details that made the rooms so special to know I will enjoy the details at home instead. :goodvibes:goodvibes

I'm so excited for a few hours alone with DH in Disney - we haven't done that since before DD3! We love, love, love our family vacation time but we are really excited about some adult conversation and a little peace and quiet over a lovely dinner!

I'm sure you'll have a great time. Enjoy your quiet dinner with your DH :goodvibes.

Hello to all my GF friends

I hope everyone had a nice Memorial Day Weekend. The weather was beautiful here.

I was able to make all of our FP+ this weekend and I got everything I wanted and at the time I wanted too.:thumbsup2 I was so happy to get Anna/Elsa on our last park day and I was able to get 3 different days for 7DMT.

Hope you had a nice Memorial Day weekend as well :flower3:. Our weather was great, too, and is actually sticking around. It's sunny with temps in the 70s :sunny:.

Congrats on getting everything you wanted for FP+ :thumbsup2.

Will be staying at the GF for the first time in January. There for a conference with a discounted rate, so assuming they will default me to standard room at Sago Cay unless I make a request.

Will be with wife and kids (ages 2-8). Thinking of requesting a room in Big Pine Key or Boca Chica with an unobstructed pool view (i.e not behind that big building near the pool). Is this a reasonable request? (pool view is not an upgraded category right?). Everything seems pretty close to main building, Gasparilla, and transportation.

Any advice would be appreciated. Not interested in upgrading room/view.

Thanks!

Congrats on your first upcoming GF stay :wizard:. You are correct that a view of the courtyard pool is not an upgraded category as that is a standard garden view, as BlueSkies posted. With that said, I think all of the outer buildings are great, but my two favorites are Big Pine Key and Boca Chica. Both have pretty views of the courtyard pool and are close to the main building, the beach pool, and Gasparillas. If you happen to get a room in BPK and it overlooks the back of the pool house, you can always ask if a room on a higher floor is available. Disney is usually very accommodating and will have no problem changing your room if another one that matches your requests is available ;).

MickeyNut While I am curious about venturing a bit and trying some of the resorts that we have never tried...AKL is just not on the list... I have trouble staying at any place other than the GF..lol...:lovestruc

The GF does have a way of getting you hooked on always wanting to stay there, so I can totally relate on not wanting to stay anywhere else ::yes::. We do have our favorites, but we also love trying different resorts. A lot of people feel AKL is too secluded, but I find that to be one the benefits as it's very peaceful and quiet to me. I have also read that CL is amazing, so that makes me want to stay there again and try CL ;).

My 17 yr. old daughter asked yesterday if she could start packing....I was like what!!! We still have 57 days.

It's never too early to start packing :).

Go for it.....as I said above, it's never too soon to start packing :goodvibes.

Only 19 days??!! What - how did that happen?

:cool1::cool1:

We are staying at the GF for the first time at the end of July. I really need a day bed so that my daughters each have their own bed. Do dormer rooms have a day bed? I have seen conflicting reports, so I thought I would ask the experts.

Any requests I should make? I have never stayed there so I will take any and all advice! Thank you so much!

As BlueSkies posted, there is no definitive answer yet on whether or not the dormer rooms have a daybed since the refurb. I agree with abk96 to request a daybed, no dormer room :).

I just switched from the poly to GF now I need help! I need to know all of the cool things that you can do at the GF that a newbie wouldn't know! I am so excited it's stupid! :cool1::dance3:

Also what building should I request for a refurbished room with a day bed? We are booked in a garden view room. Where are the best garden view rooms?? TIA!!! I am soooo excited!!!!!!

One of things I love doing at the GF is just walking the grounds taking in the beautiful surroundings. Everything about the GF is amazing from the grounds, the shops, restaurants, etc that just sitting taking in the atmosphere is very relaxing to me :cloud9:.

Since the refurb is almost complete (with the exception of SL and RPC, as BluseSkies mentioned), you should get a refurbed room. For GV, I would request Big Pine Key or Boca Chica :wizard:.

Six days!!! Actually less then that because today is almost over.

This last week is torture. I'm 90% packed! luggage tags are on and I'm so SO ready to go. This week needs to fly.

:banana::banana:

I'm sure you are going to enjoy those great Disney items :goodvibes.

Another Poly jumping ship here :goodvibes. We changed when we heard the GF pool in Aug wouldn't be available!
I agree with Boca. We stayed there last August and loved it!
Don't forget about the Parasol parade. I think they do it 2 mornings a week. I did forget but happened to be having my morning coffee on the balcony so saw it! Unfortunately couldn't get any good pics. Ran into room to grab camera and lens instantly fogged up the minute it left AC room into sweltering Aug heat

Just want to clarify....GF pool unavailable in august? Not sure what that means.....

She just did an OOPSIE:dance3:

Volcano pool at Poly will be closed is why Sue coming here to GF.

Sorry:rolleyes1

Yes! Thanks for clarifying for me, guess it didn't come out right  but glad you knew what I meant!
GF pool wasn't avail for Poly guests in Aug. Orig they said Poly guests could use GF pool, then changed their minds. Understandable. So now I'm at GF!!!
And looking forward to returning. We  GF!

Where is k&a&c? She was so helpful last year planning!

She was on vacation with her DD...no not Disney  lol......and has been kind of busy since her return....but she did say that she would be back here with her fellow GF Groupies soon.... :surfweb:

This is a great place for help planning a Grand trip...lots of friendly and knowlegable posters..and k&a&c is truly a terrific keeper of the forum...:thumbsup2

I just switched today from the Poly Concierge to the Grand Floridian Gardenview "no concierge available". I switched because this is my 3 year old grandsons first trip to Disney and the volcano pool at the Poly will be closed. I hope I don't regret my decision. I requested a room near the pool. Any thoughts?

I agree....she does an excellent job of keeping this thread up to date. She is also very knowledgeable about the GF and gives great advice and information about the resort :goodvibes.

The Poly is our favorite, but the GF runs a very close second as it's an amazing resort as well. With that said, I don't think you will regret switching. My favorite buildings for GV are Big Pine Key and Boca Chica. Both have pretty views overlooking the courtyard pool, but are also close to the main building, the beach pool, and Gasparillas.

Thank you so much. We have stayed at the GF before but got spoiled staying in one of those octagon shaped rooms in the main building concierge. That was Disney magic for my 50th birthday. I loved that room.

You're welcome :goodvibes.

The main building is amazing and those octagon rooms are great for extra space :).

It's so cold here today, I wish I could live at the Grand.

My next visit home to the villas is in Dec. I'm not wishing my summer away I'm just wishing I could live at the Grand all year long.

I look at houses to buy when I'm there but I think I don't want to worry about a house when I'm not there. Plus I love being pampered and I love the beautiful grounds at the Grand.

The Grand is so Grand!!!

We are Poly lovers too, and were booked in CL for our upcoming trip. We switched to GF for the same reason. This will be our first stay at the Grand & I'm truly looking forward to it! We were able to get into SL (no RPC available, unfortunately), & will be there shortly after the refurb is completed :-) I can't offer any advice, but from what I've heard, there is no regretting the Grand! Hope you have a magical trip!

Yes, she was tremendous help last visit, so was curious where she was! But you are doing an awsome job :thumbsup2

We just booked the Grand for Aug 26-29th! Woohoo!!:cool1: This is our first time staying there, we are soooo pumped! The Grand is DH dream resort! We were booked at YC from Aug 20-28, but we decided on a split stay to try the GF so now we are YC Aug 20-26 and GF Aug 26-29. Our first time staying in a deluxe resort and I can't believe we are going to stay at GF!! :goodvibes
