BC1836 thanks for the info on the food, drinks and state of affairs in the CL lounge. I for one really appreciate any and all details! (As I'm sure many others do as well) looking forward to our upcoming and first time Grand Vacation CL SL.
Glad you had a nice time and enjoyed "all the little things" that make it so special! (Including the Mumm) :)

You will enjoy SL at the GFR. And if it gets a bit crowded in the lounge, you can always take your beverage and food outside (try the dock side rather than the pool side; seating will be limited to a few benches, though).

Beware of clueless guests who come in form the pool, barefoot and wet. Some of these folks habitually sit down on the chairs in their wet bathing suits and make them "unseatable" for the rest.

Of course, a short walk to the launch dock allows you to see "Wishes" at the appropriate nighttime hour. The launch provides you with a pleasant ride to the MK via the Poly, where you will pass the new GFR vacation club building, the wedding pavilion and the ongoing construction for the new Poly Village vacation club structures "on the water."

All the best. :thumbsup2

Thank you! This is perfect...so it sounds like we will probably not face the beach pool...since we asked to connect with my Mom. We have Main Building deluxe...no King rooms-too many people! :-)

:) Gotcha! Well, I'm sure you will love the rooms over the courtyard, they are spacious and the view is very pretty. And you should see some of the higher fireworks.:thumbsup2

I'm loving this flip flop and capri weather :goodvibes.....although this week temps are supposed to dip into the 40s, so it looks like winter is going to stick around a little longer :(.

....
Awww thanks . I'm glad I was able to help because I have gotten a lot of help on these boards and love helping others when I can :). The "control C" and "control v" are ones I've never heard of and sound too complicated for me, so I'll have to stick with my easy way :rotfl2:.

We hit 80 yesterday too and it was sooo nice, just wish it would stick around, but doesn't look like it's going to :(. Hopefully the cold won't last too long this week and the warm temps will be back for all of us soon ;).

We started doing the late flights about 10 years ago. We took our boys out of school a few times and found cheaper flights the night before we were originally going to arrive, so we booked those with departing times around 7-8 pm, getting into MCO around 10:30-11:30 pm. After that first time doing it that way, we have done that ever since. We have never used DME as we use a car service or rent a car, but I love getting in late and getting settled and waking up the next morning ready to go, rather than spending half of the day traveling :goodvibes.

YAY for capri and flip flop weather! Did you get the snow yesterday? We had it for a couple hours, but luckily, it didn't stick. Very cold, though, I didn't venture out.

It's pretty easy to copy and paste the way I do it, but maybe hard to remember until you've done it a few times. You just highlight, hit "control" and the letter c at the same time; put your cursor where you want the text, etc., hit "control" and the letter v at the same time. DS says it may be counterintuitive to use the letter "v" to paste, lol, but it was probably designed that way as it is next to the c. I can do it with one hand, after I highlight, which is sometimes helpful.

Your flight strategy sounds like a good idea. For years, we couldn't restrain ourselves from heading to a park the minute we arrived, but these days, I think that schedule would work great for us.:thumbsup2

:surfweb: Hi all!

I think in years past the cabanas have been the same price the whole year through...but..seems like there might be seasonal pricing these days.. Kind of like Tiers..lol..Tiered rides...Tiered room rates..summer... fall..weekends...It all equals to this...bye bye $$$...lol...

Hope that everyone is having a magical Monday!! :earsgirl:

 LOL about bye bye money - true!!:faint:

We are home after enjoying our most recent wonderful stay at the GFR.

We miss it already but are prepared to return to our favorite building upon completion of the room renovations.

All the best. :thumbsup2

Glad you had a great stay and are safely home.:goodvibes

We have always had the same attitude about clearing our own tables, but in the last couple years, we've asked the CMs what they've done with the tray that used to be out to return glasses, plates, etc. They have indicated it is just as easy for them to clear each table, they don't expect guests to carry it all up to the food service area - but still, we usually do, unless a CM happens to come by and get it from us while we are seated (which they often do, they are johnny-on-the-spot, lol).

Thanks for the updates, always good to hear new details!

Has Chris been on an extended vacation? We love seeing him, and the rest of the musicians - all very good.:thumbsup2

Hi everyone I had a quick question that I know probably has been asked before but with so many pages I couldn't really find an answer. My grandmother will be with us and she can't do to long of distances, we will have a wheelchair for her in the parks but not out. We usually stay at the Contemporary and have stayed in the Garden wing there before and she was fine with that. How far out are the outer building rooms from the main building? Would you say it's pretty similar in distance? Thanks! It has always been her dream to stay there.

Yes, I would consider the GF buildings to be a similar distance as the outer wings to the Tower at CR. It's quite a compact resort, the furthest building from the back door of the Main Bldg. is probably a 3-5 minute walk, depending on your speed.

As abk96 has posted, the closest building to the Main Bldg. is Big Pine Key - but any of the outer buildings are a short walk away, truly. And though Sago Cay IS close to the Main Bldg. itself (near Gasparilla's), it is actually the furthest walk from the entrances (front or back) of any of the outer buildings. Still a short walk, and the closest building to the bus stop, so it's all good.:flower3:

HTH!

:wave2: Hello, everyone!

So sick today...sore throat, fever, chills, aches...full-on flu! It came on suddenly last night after dinner, within 30 minutes, all symptoms and I was down for the count. I'm so bored, too. :bored:

What better way to make me feel better than the GF thread. :flower3: Dreaming of my next stay at GF....

Awww. I hope you are feeling much better today, so sorry you've been ill. And bored, lol, glad you had the GF thread to while away the hours.

Hi, k&a&c'smom...me too, wondering about Chris. Love his playing, and his friendliness! :thumbsup2

And thanks for commenting on the lounge cleanup. I never want to be seen as a messy or rude guest (leaving food and plates around); but when I have asked the CMs about clearing away our things, they have always said, let us do it. It's our job. :) In the past, if we have risen from the table with plates in hand, someone is usually there, as you said, ready to whisk it away! :goodvibes

Good Afternoon from an extra super soggy PA, I should that the temps have also plummeted here we've gone from high 70s to high 40's brrrrrr

ahcupcake - sorry about your accident, hope you are all better soon. I added your link to the "Suite Photos" post.
Thank You feel back to my normal self and Thank You for posting my video link. I'm looking for my other Suite pics(Rooms #4002 2bd,#4411 (Walt Suite) & #4026 1bd)

Hi, GF pals...:wave2: Been MIA (to use ahcupcake's phrase) because my dad took us three "girls" to Richmond, Va. for a "memories" trip. He and my mom have a history there. It was such a special time; I'll never forget it! :goodvibes

ahcupcake, sorry to hear about your "run-in" with the lid of the trunk! :crazy2: I bet that stunned you!
Thanks Grannyminnie I'm back to not wincing at every movement.......Sounds like a fad getaway with your dad & sisters

ahcupcake Hope that you are feeling better...This is just for you...:clown: lol.....

~ DD and I are both counting down until our trip..we finally are under the 60 day mark.....:woohoo: Have our ADRs..and our FPP... personalized our MBs...we are beginning a collection..lol.. ( I still think that pink is my fave )...lol..Now if June would just get here!!!
Thanks Blue I am......I'm going to have a word with my fab TA about you picking on Clowny :clown:........Now back to the GF YAY :cool1::cheer2::yay: for extra time at the GF

Hi Blue Agree seem like the cabanas are being tiered, oh well. Think our last cabana day was something like $117plus tax but then that was almost 3 yrs ago.......Loved last nights DWTS:love::rolleyes1 and you know my reason other than it was Disney night

Granny I believe Christian is out on medical leave, I'm "friends" with him on FB and he has been posting there what has been going on with him.I'll PM you, I don't feel right posting his info on a message board...........Yes the guest staying in RPC have been getting worse ie leaving dishes & hogging food.

Yes, this is exactly our experience, they see us and walk up to take our things before we can even get to the food service area.:teeth: All of the CMs who work in the food prep area are wonderful, as are those at the desks.

Hello hello everyone!!!

Rain, rain and more rain....but its not snow!!!!

Ran to the mall this morning because the Disney Store wasn't answering its phone....had a feeling a delivery of Frozen came in.....and IT DID!!! Woo Hoo I got my niece her nightgown for Disney World!!! They were so strick...one item of each per person. There was a lady there that had two daughters and they wouldn't let her buy two...CRAZY!! Finally, we found someone in there that would buy one for her. I understand trying to control the situation so everyone gets an opportunity to buy the merchandise, but there has to be some flexibility!!

Anyway, hope your all doing well,

ahcupcake - I am glad your feeling better!!

Hi! I mentioned awhile back that I haven't been to the GF since 2010. Today I was looking at the photos on the first page of this thread and I noticed that Gasparilla's looks to have been redone. It looks like the arcade has moved. Is that correct? I so hope that is the case! We always enjoyed eating there but found it somewhat nerve wracking with the arcade noise all around us!

And on the subject of weather, it was 40 degrees all the way down here in TX when I woke up this morning. That is positively arctic for us at this time of year! Today would be a great day to be poolside at the Grand, cool beverage in hand :)

BlueSkies,

It's always fun to get a wave from you and all my Grand friends!

I hope all my Grand friends are having a magical day!!!

Yup....Gasparilla's was redone and the arcade is now in a separate room in the back that used to be the daycare (can't think of the official name).

I am sure the pros will be on to give more details!!

Stay warm!!!

Excellent! So glad to hear that. I don't have small children any more, so for me, it is a welcome change. But I can understand how those with little ones might have appreciated having the arcade at hand while they ate.

We are trying to stay warm & I hope everyone else is too! Of course, I can't complain too much because while it has been cold for us, I know our winters are nothing like what some of you have to endure.

Thanks everyone! Glad to hear that the walk isn't any further! I thought I remembered walking around there and that it didn't seem far but I wasn't sure if I remembered correctly or not.

Rescuing us from the second page again! :rotfl:

Thank goodness someone is on the ball.;):goodvibes Seems you've had to rescue us quite often of late!

I'm not a fan of the rain either - but, as you say, at least it's not snow!! We had a little on Monday, but it didn't stick, thank goodness. Back to our regularly scheduled spring time.

YAY for being able to get the nightgown for your niece.:yay: I agree, the rigid restriction of one per person, regardless of the number of kids in a family, seems un-Disney.:sad2:

Sorry for your cold snap, I hope your area has returned to more normal spring temps.:sunny: Did you end up with any of that nasty ice over the winter? I felt so sorry for everyone in the Deep South - if you aren't used to it, you don't have the infrastructure to deal with the frozen stuff, and ice is particularly dangerous.:scared:

Yes, the arcade has been revamped - it looks very nice! I, too, was glad they moved the arcade, though we rarely ate indoors.

BlueSkies,

It's always fun to get a wave from you and all my Grand friends!

It was the Mouseketeers Club! Kind of a shame that it is gone, but I've been assured it was rarely used, so I guess the space is better used now. The arcade is expanded, too, which I'm sure those that use it will enjoy.:)

Thanks everyone! Glad to hear that the walk isn't any further! I thought I remembered walking around there and that it didn't seem far but I wasn't sure if I remembered correctly or not.

:thumbsup2 I have a pinned ankle and bad knee, and at the end of the day I'm always glad the GF is such an easy walk to the room. Any walking when you are in pain seems too long, but it isn't hard to get around the resort.:flower3:

ETA: BTW - there are benches placed at the entry to each building, so if your grandmother is walking, say, from the boat dock to Big Pine, or Sago - you could stop at Conch, Boca or SL for a breather. I'll post a photo so you know what I mean. (you can't see both, but there are two of these benches, facing each other)

Ahhh, nice to see that picture of the entrance to SL! :goodvibes I can imagine us walking in to see what the lounge has out for us to nosh on! :thumbsup2

Aww, wouldn't that be great?!?:cloud9: Your trip will be here before you know it - you'll be noshing on the offerings in no time.:dance3:

We had a SL trip planned for late April, but DD and I decided to visit the Delmarva Peninsula instead. Looking forward to seeing new things, but it killed me to cancel the SL reservation, especially as it is our last chance in the old rooms!

We are having the same weather here. We had rain last week with snow this week :sad2:. Tuesday we woke up to 3-4 inches of snow with temps in the 30s, which I don't think is spring weather :rolleyes1.

Ran to the mall this morning because the Disney Store wasn't answering its phone....had a feeling a delivery of Frozen came in.....and IT DID!!! Woo Hoo I got my niece her nightgown for Disney World!!!

As WishesQueen posted, Gasparillas has been redone. I am one who is glad the arcade was moved. We found the noise from the arcade games to very annoying when we sat in there to eat. Plus I think the new Gasparillas is much nicer as it was in need of an update ;).

Ahhh, nice to see that picture of the entrance to SL!

I agree :goodvibes.

I'm sure you and DD will have a great trip :flower3:. The GF will always be there for a later trip (although with a new room :().

A number of traditional RPC offerings remain, everything from Chicken Wellington to strawberry soup, but new items are always being introduced. Of course, Mumm Napa remains! Above all, the RPC's first rate CMs are exceptional!

Sadly, many RPC guests don't clean up after themselves. It's so easy to bring plates and glasses back to a designated spot on the side shelf. To simply leave used dishes, glasses, utensils and napkins at a table is a kind of "Oh, I'm at the concierge level and I expect to be waited on" posture. The CM's have enough to do by by setting up, bringing food and beverages out, answering questions, etc. We been at the GFR 26 times and we always make sure our table is cleaner than it was before we sat at it.

New band uniforms for the GF Society orchestra; new painist Victoria is quite amazing (veteran musician Christian is due back in a few months); and building renovations go on without notiice from the rest of the GFR world.

All the best. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the updated info! :goodvibes You sure do have quite a few GF stays under your belt...:thumbsup2

Pet peeve of mine is others who don't clean up after themselves... :headache: I understand that the CL CMs are so attentive....and often come over to the tables to clean up...but to get up and leave mess...just plain rude to me....

I have seen a general decline in lounge manners in the last few years... I really think there needs to be a big sign indicating proper attire..maybe even a suggestion or two on lounge etiquette.. I am sure you have seen the occasional guest who doesn't get it that they are not at home despite the homey atmosphere..lol..and wanders into the lounge in a robe..:faint: looking like..and maybe might have... just rolled out of bed....lol..

During our last visit ..on an evening that the lounge was pretty busy...there was a young girl....sprawled across one of the sofas..on her belly...playing on her tablet...with bare dirty feet also on the sofa!!! ....:( ...just awful...

Hi everyone I had a quick question that I know probably has been asked before but with so many pages I couldn't really find an answer. Would you say it's pretty similar in distance? Thanks! It has always been her dream to stay there.

I would say given the close proximity of all of the outer buildings to the main building your grandma will be fine no matter what building that you are in...but I would recommend as others have BPK as it really is the closest to the main building..and all it has inside... the walk from the monorail at the CR to the garden wing is quite a bit longer of a walk than from the monorail at the GF to any outer building... How nice that you and going to be spending time with her at the GF...Enjoy! :goodvibes

Enjoy your beach vacation...I am sure that no matter where you are just spending the time with your DD will be wonderful...:goodvibes Of course...mother daughter time at Disney ..and especially at the GF is always nice...sounds like there will be another trip to plan in the future...:thumbsup2

ahcupcake Hope that Christian will be doing well and back at the GF before long..he is definitely missed by many of us...

:offtopic: As for DWTS...lol... and your man Maks!!! He sure does know how to be a Disney character....:smokin:...;)

txtigger Gasparillas is quite a bit bigger ( there are tables and booths) ..and blissfully quieter now that they have moved the game room into a separate area..as Wishes said its where the child care area was located..which is directly behind Gaspies... so the kids can be playing while the grown ups enjoy a bit of a longer meal time...Its new official name is "Gasparilla Island Grill" ?? Not sure why the name change...lol... The menu seems to be the same...

MickeyNut Dd you have to exchange your flip flops from snow boots this week!!

~ I just read about an interesting event at Epcot on the Disney Food Blog...Its an after hours separate ticket event....more bye bye $$$...lol...sounds like fun...Its called "After Hours Wind Down"..and will be hosted at La Cava, Rose & Crown Spice Road and Tutto Gusto...it includes drinks and small plates of different dishes ..sounds kind of like a cocktail hour ...anyway wanted to share that will my fellow GF fans...its always fun to find some thing new to do at the world!

Hope that everyone is having a wonderful Wednesday! :earsgirl:

Hey MickeyNut I see that we were posting at the same time...

I of course was editing...and removing extra smilies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol....
