Beginning to wonder if I should switch to BC after reading some negatives on TripAdvisor about YC. I know that YC isn't for everybody but my concern is with the state of the rooms--many are described as old and filthy. Going in August and not sure what to do...have waited so long to stay at YC...we've been booked but always had to cancel for one reason or another.

Any thoughts on this?

I wouldn't pay much attention to reviews. It's a Disney deluxe resort. In all the resorts, some rooms get pretty messed up and if a housekeeper doesn't take it out of order and report it, it gets missed and guests will get assigned to them. If there are any problems with your room, just go down to the front desk, ask to speak to one of the managers and tell them what is going on. They want you to have a super vacation and will take care of you. It's rare that a problem can't be rectified. All of the resorts are on a schedule for room rehab and the BC is due to start first (hopefully in 2014) and then the YC will be done. I can tell you that the rooms with the most wear and tear at both the YC and BC have been worked on recently and if you find you get an "old and filthy room", just let someone know and you will be taken care of.

We saw a lot of similar reviews (and a LOT of terrible comments about service on the CL floor) that made us a bit nervous prior to our trip in August 2013, but we found the room to be impeccably clean, and in a great state of repair. Also, we had nothing but good experiences with the CL staff (not that we are anywhere near high maintenance... Maybe if we had more specific requests we would have a better "test" of their abilities. LOL).

Personally I would not switch to BC because of these kinds of reviews. They happen for all resorts. I also think people are more likely to post bad reviews than good ones.

Can't wait! Going April 4-12..We have never stayed at YC...staying CL...Has anyone ever rented boats...etc...my kids are very excited about this. :) :)

Didn't a Dis Meet get scheduled for Monday 8/18 in the Solarium at 6:30? I can't wait to see everybody!!!! And Jeanne will be so delighted you are bringing goodies from "home". I'll pack them up and take them with me when I fly out on the 19th!!

You all spoil me and my family so much. You have no idea how much we appreciate it!!!!

Yes there is a Dis meet scheduled then!

BTW I plan on bringing you CORN fresh from the farm! We have some really great farms in our area and they are famous for their sweet corn.

Corn, Corn, CORN ~ REAL CORN!!!!!! Get ready because it is coming your way (Finally!)

Me, too!

But after our July trip to DL and Hawaii I would have to cash in some serious brownie points for another getaway!

Start baking because you need to be there. Even if you just hit Pop for a long weekend ~ minus the family ~ it would be worth it...

Thank you TinkerbelleMom and natebenma for your advice - and welcome too!

I just booked the 9:30 tour as we are doing the evening extra magic hours at EPCOT the night before. DS wanted to go on the tour when he was younger so hoping he will like it. I want to go myself so not giving him a choice;)We did the Family Magic tour on one of our last trips.

Ooh that's early this year! When do you come back Teena? We arrive 19th and leave 31st. I had hoped to bring some small gifts again for you to take out to Vegas.

Oh, yeah, my other summer tip...

If you split from your family and plan to meet at a certain time, have your meeting spot be someplace air-conditioned, like a gift shop near where you want to be

That would be my luck! DH is a CPA so we were never able to go away for Easter break. This year is the first time in 11 years that Easter falls AFTER April 15. So we booked a 5 night trip to Universal. Last time we were at Universal DD got a terrible stomach virus about one hour after we got there. It was only a night trip before Disney and she missed just about all of US/IOA.

This is supposed to be our "do over" trip!

Accountant here - Not a CPA. I so understand about wanting to go away for spring break. My vacations are usually in May so I have a chance to recover from the agony of tax season. We time our fall vacation for late October - mid November to get away before the fun starts up.

I have been working on tax returns all day today while sitting in my sweats. So much better than being in the office.

That stinks that DD got a stomach bug the last time you were there. Reminds me of when DD was visiting my dad who drove up from West Palm Beach to take her to Sea World. She got sick as soon as they got there. They turned around and drove the three hours back.

Thanks for the feedback! I will keep things the way they are. I know that you can't please everyone all of the time. Looking forward to our trip!

Hmmm... what about the Peanut Butter Kandy Bar Kakes made with Reese's?

Have you seen the York Peppermint Patty ones? I love chocolate and mint together.

:yay:

The grocery stores around here started selling TastyKake products when the Hostess factories shut down for awhile. Never would have paid attention to them if "someone" hadn't shared her obsession with us!

OMG ... real corn? When? I'm leaving the next day but I can cook it that morning and eat all day before heading to airport!!

Fly out on 19th and back on 29th. I'll be back to work on 8/31 at 8AM. I'll be out in Vegas again in October.

I have time to kill waiting for our transport to the airport on 31st so will come see you. Lobby CMs at Beach are soooo much more friendly than at Yacht.

Everybody is so sweet ... spoiling me and Jeanne and Lily and even Bob.

And your support is so wonderful.

Just returned from the Lung doctor (specialist). Absolutely loved him and feel I'm in great hands. Unfortunately not the best results. I have COPD and probably have for quite a while. Obviously there is no cure but he really feels he can get it under control and assured me if I do what he says, I'll be around for a long time. He said I have to stay away from sick people as much as possible. I laughed and said, "I work at Disney and do volunteer work at an elementary school." He said, "Well, don't hug and kiss sick people ... but you have to keep living your life." He's got me started on some things to get my current situation under control and then meds to take to keep me under control (twice daily forever).

He said I can go to Jeanne's on Wednesday and loaded me down with meds "just in case I flair up while there". Hopefully I won't have to use them.

I have some lung tests when I return down in Davenport.

I'm scared but feel with this new doctor things will be ok.

Well, I'm the fixed BC part-time greeter .. almost ten years now. We have three roving part-time greeters that rove between the BC and YC (Al, Dave and Gene). The full-time greeter at the YC is Richard ... he use to be the full timer at the BC. Then the fixed YC part-time greeter is Gary. Gary is super friendly if you happen to be there the two days a week he works. You'd love him I'm sure. Right now we are in the process of getting a full-time greeter at the BC. I believe Al might be going for it and there is a chance Richard might come back to the BC.

I'm just a talker (I love my BC guests) and love everything Disney and want everybody's vacation to be the best possible and if I can help you with plans or problems, that's all I want to do!!

Hi YC Experts,
For many years, my family has stayed at the BC or the GF, and although we have always enjoyed walking through the YC and eating at the CG and YS, we have never stayed there. Until this April! I have some questions that I'm hoping you YC fans can answer for me. We have a CL pool/lagoon view room. (1) I read on the disboards that the CL lagoon view rooms do not have two queen beds + a day-bed as an option, but on the WDW site, it is an option. Is it an option? (2) We would really like a room at the end of the fifth floor overlooking Stormalong Bay - is that enough detail for a room request or do I need more for the room assigner? Do those rooms have at least 2 queen beds? Are these rooms a long walk from the lounge? (3) I read somewhere that they are experimenting with new CL offerings. Any word on how long the experiment is going to last? Has anyone been there recently to try the new things? Thanks very much.

I will be there this April too.. :beach: I actually have almost all of the same questions you do! We will be there April 4-12. The only other thing, is where is the lounge located on the 5th floor...and is it better to be closer to it, but still facing the pool? Or, some have said to be facing the lagoon?? I guess you can see the fireworks from epcot...?? Don't know which is better:confused3

You can't book a CL LV room with five people. There are two YC CL LV rooms with daybeds but only two so they don't book people with five in a CL LV room. All have either two queens or a king bed (only 6 out of 28 are king in CL LV at the YC). There is a room layout somewhere out there ... I'm sure someone here can post it ... that shows the fifth floor so you can see where all the rooms are in reference to the lounge.

All club level lounges at all the resorts change their offerings ... they constantly make changes so it's rare to find the same thing year after year. The new offerings they have been testing have gone over well. I'm sure they are still making changes as they try to zero in on a set menu. Then that set menu will change after a while ... I think the longest I ever saw a set menu at the Y&B that never changed was a year. When one item doesn't seem to be a hit, they change it. Then a new manager or chef comes along and makes total menu changes. Same as in all the Disney restaurants. I'm still reeling from them taking away the ribs every night at Cape May but at least they are back ... if only two or three times a week. And I'm going to try and find out which nights have the ribs when I get to work on Sunday!!!

Yes!

That is funny, I almost phrased the question ..."Would Bob, Jeanne & Lily enjoy the Reese's Kandy Kakes because I've tried the York and they are yummy?"

And same situation here, when Hostess was on hiatus Tastykakes came in and I too wouldn't have paid any attention if not for this thread and Teena.

BTW -- great tip on waiting for party in AC during the summer. So simple, but so smart and probably overlooked more than people realize.
