Hi everyone. I posted back in the middle of last year about our planned trip to the Beach Club (our second Florida trip, having done 6 trips to Disneyland Paris and 1 to Disneyland California), and think we are on the BOG list for August 2016. Well, since my last post we (me, DS15 and DS10) have had a bit of a tough time, my husband died suddenly and unexpectedly while he and I were on holiday in Paris last December. At first I thought that I couldn't face a holiday so far away without him and thought that we would postpone till 2017, but a few weeks ago (brought on by the UK free dining offer for 2016) I decided that we can do it, and that we should do it in 2016 as planned. So, I booked a Garden View room at BC and started looking at flydrive prices. I soon realised that if we moved the trip 5 days later I could save a lot of money on the flights, but decided to wait to find out the back to school dates. Unfortunately while I have been waiting the flight prices went up so I decided to book today! Then found that when I went to move our BC room that all of the GV rooms have already gone! So we have had to pay an extra £600 for water view, which is not so good. Still, it was that or standard view and having looked at the photos on this thread decided that we definitely don't want a standard room. So have got my fingers crossed that maybe a garden view will become available - I'm not sure how anyone who doesn't book over a year in advance ever gets a garden view!! Still, lots to look forward to now and I hope to be on the boards more than I have been. Please can you update our dates at BC on the BOG list to 21 August 2016 - 2 September 2016.

Sarah I'd just like to offer my condolences to you and your family. I'm glad you feel you can travel again and you and your sons will love the Beach CLub. While it is a long plane journey to get there once you arrive everything is very easy and convenient to get to. You'll find a lovely bunch of people here happy to help ease any worries you have. Take care

I'm not a regular poster on this thread, but I just want to say I'm sorry for your loss.

Sarah, sending hugs your way. Hope you and your boys have a wonderful vacation!!

And don't give up on the GV room, either. We were able to upgrade from SV to GV at YC about 6 months prior to our trip.

Sarah, I am so sorry for your loss.

We had 3 garden view rooms at the BC. When free dining was announced we could not get Garden view and had to upgrade to pool/water view at a large price increase. A week later I noticed garden view rooms available for free dining. I called immediately and was able to change the pool view to garden view. Don't give up. Keep checking. More than likely it will open up.

Thanks! We will. Let me know if anyone needs anything answered while we are here. I'm happy to help. Still on DME...just pulled up to BC! Aahhhh!

If you could confirm that crab legs are still being served at Cape May, that'd be awesome! We have a reservation there next month and my niece has one in September and she's swearing that they don't have the crab legs anymore. TYIA

Sarah,
I too would like to express my condolences to you and your children. What a devastating loss.
I think that it is wonderful that you are moving ahead with your planned vacation.Part of the grief and recovery process is taking care of yourself and honoring your loved one by doing what they would want you to do. I am sure it will make your husband very happy to know that you are carrying on your mutual love for Disney :tink:

That's definitely got to be a lagoon view room. It may even be part of a suite.

I just wanted to drop in again and say hi to yall! I hope you're well and I'm sorry I've fallen off posting. When summer vacation finally comes (on June 30th-ugh!) I'll post more regularly, but I wanted to share that today we hit the 99 day, or less-than-100-day mark!
Wheeeeee!

oh Sarah, that's just awful. I'm sorry for your loss. May you find comfort and joy in your trip to Disney, and my your DS also find that something special that helps them grieve.

Like others have said, just keep looking. I'm not sure how anyone plans the last minute trips and finds deals either - keep looking!

Hi everyone! Stepping out from lurking to ask a couple questions :)

After looking at pictures of the BC it looks like the 5th floor has all full balconies - is this true? Does Hurricane Hannah's still serve kids meals in a pail or can you buy beach toys in the gift shop? I would love to avoid having to pack these items.

Love this thread and appreciate all the great information!

Thanks

:tink::sulley:

We're close to that 99-day mark, too. We also bailed from the Poly. I thought if the construction mess was stressing me out now, how would I feel if we checked into our room and had to look at a giant pit every morning. So now we're staying at the WL the first three nights, then moving to the BC.

We get sprung from Hershey Medical Center tomorrow. I love this hospital, but it will be nice to sleep in my own bed. Yesterday was really rough. Aria was just miserable. Today, she's walking all over the place and chatting up the therapy dog brought in by Child Life. We have watched Tangled five times, the Lion King at least three, Frozen three or four. We've moved on to Guardians of the Galaxy. And I am so grateful this happened now, rather than right before we were supposed to go to Florida or while we were there.

Hey Scott - looks like we will be there the same time again! Dis meet planned for August 30. Hope you guys can make it again

Our school ends June 12. Can't wait for a nice long vacation and sleeping past 5 AM!

I haven't had much computer time these past few days and I haven't done a thorough "sweep" of the past 5 or so pages, but here are a few answers. I'll be back when I can with more comments, official welcomes and additions to the Be Our Guest list.

Sorry if this is answered here in this thread - I read back several pages and reviewed the first post and don't see anybody talking about refurbishments actually starting on BCV?

Has anybody seen evidence of this starting - everything I read says this should have started in March but I haven't seen anyone mentioning it. We are traveling in late October and although it will not be done by then was hoping at least a few floors would be done and some refurbished rooms would be available?

Thanks!

News about the BCV refurb has been hard to find and mostly still rumor. A person staying there in October received the construction warning letter for their October trip. Another rumor has a finish date of Dec 16th. It is supposed to start soon but no one can confirm that it has started yet.

As pointed out, we have not had any positive sightings posted here on this thread about the BCV refurb starting as of yet. I also received the letter and my stay is in the second week of December. I would suggested that by October there will be plenty of rooms that have been refurbished so if you indicate in your room request that you would like to have one of them you probably stand a good chance of getting it. Just remember that requests are not guaranteed. And be sure to keep checking page one of this thread where Dee keeps us up to date on the latest of the goings on with the resort refurbishments. She relies on posters here to keep her up to date so keep that news coming.
Katesdad

I don't believe that work has started on the Beach Club Villa rooms yet. I have heard that a couple of the rooms are undergoing a sample renovation but I don't think the actual renovation will be starting before June.

Beach Club refurbishment is still on the 3rd floor.

:goodvibes:

Ive searched but could not find the answer.

We will be visiting this summer with my family and sisters family and will have 2 infants (9 and 5 months). Are we allowed to use any sort of infant floaty in Stormalong Bay?
We have stayed at BC/YC a few times but this is the first time with a baby or young child that can not swim well. I just don't remember if this type of stuff was allowed. I know they have the life jackets but Im not sure those would really fit just yet.

Thanks!

We have been told that infants may wear the floaties/tubes that go around the body as long as an adult is within arms reach. I think I have the exact description I was given by a lifeguard in the second post on Page 1.

:thumbsup2

Most, but not all of the room on the 5th floor (club level) have full balconies. Between 75 to 80 %.

Sarah, I am so very sorry to hear about your husband. My heart goes out to you and your family. Please let us know if we can answer any questions or help make your trip better in any way. As others have suggested, keep checking to see if you can get the type of room you want. People are changing room type and even resorts all the time, so hopefully a garden view room will open up.

I've finally caught up! I'll be checking out a week before the dis meet on August 30. Did I miss the link to the support group?

Natebenma - I am hoping for sweet change of life accommodations for your dad to be around peers that make him happy.

Tarak - So happy to hear your girl is up, recovering, with high tech, and on your way home tomorrow.

Sarah - I am torn up for your loss. Sending warm yellow roses.

We haven't been since last July but they were still serving kids meals in the pails as they have been for years.

I also recall seeing other sand/water toys for sale in the Beach Club Marketplace and over in gift shop at Yacht Club.
