2013 Adventures, Boarded the Cruise Ship!

So we booked this cruise back in Feb of 2012, and I have tried not to think about it too much, but my major concern was the cost of flying on a one way ticket, they are always so expensive.

We booked our standard inside cabin that we like.

Now time to watch the prices and see if they drop and enjoy the planning.

We had a TA booked once and I was worried about this too! We eventually dumped it in favor of something else. I saw someone once who had a great idea. They booked roundtrip airfare from Spain... they took the Spring TA to europe, flew back (first part of their airfare)... stayed home until the 2nd TA then used the rest of their flight and took the TA home. Genius! LOL

No... I don't worry about that.

As far as nautical disasters go, Corinna pointed it out well in one of her TRs. There have been very few actual disasters, they are just well publicized like Titanic. I think she cited three others and they were all a quarter of a century apart.

I forgot Celebrity had grass on the ship. I can't wait to hear about it. I have thought about doing a TA. I don't know if Chris deal with that time on a ship. I could without a doubt. Spain sounds terrific. TA crossing is such a great way to relax everyday.

I just couldn't get on an airplane to fly to another port that far. I hate flying. I hope you can get through the carpel tunnel soon. It makes it hard to do allot of things. It may calm way down on your trip.

We had thought of this too, and we even thought of buying a round trip and just not taking the second leg.

Exactly, I always tell people that driving is far worse than anything you can be in...

I think that would be a lovely way to recover....

Thanks for thinking about me.

One good thing is David and I both really enjoy the days at sea. I am really excited about this trip.

That sounds wonderful! Hopefully you can find a reasonable air ticket. Since you explored previously are you planning on extra days in Barcelona this time?

I hope your wrist gets better very soon! When mine acts up (tendonitis), I've used dragon and the voice commands with microsoft office to do much of my typing for me. They put dragon on my work computer and it worked out very well for me. That was a few years ago, and I'm sure they've improved the software since then.

Wow! I'm enjoying your tips. We're planning another cruise, our third, for April 2014. We're still in the early stages, so I'm doing my research. We still haven't nailed down where we want to cruise, so I'll be reading your blog with great interest!

The only problem with that is the airline might blacklist you in the future. Why do they have to make it so difficult??

So Speaking of air tickets....

Everything I had seen was just way out there in price and I was beginning to think that this cruise might not have been the right the choice for us...

I had heard of people booking flights with the cruise line themselves and they were always horror stories, multiple legs, extreme lay overs everything to get the best price for the cruise line. I wanted nothing of it. I wanted a semi direct, two legs at the most and I was willing to drive to another airport to make it happen. So looking on line I found flights from Jersey and Philly that met my bill. But still on the high side in price.

So, a friend of mine convinced me to try Choice Air. This is the program that Royal Caribbean and Celebrity both use.

One of my perks with Celebrity (Remember to post them here later), Is we get to waive the fee for the service. So I called them today, and I almost fell out my seat.....

Less than a 1/4 of the price that I had seen on the websites like travelocity, and cheapoair....

we are talking cheaper than we can fly to L.A......

So of course I booked right away.

We are flying British Airways from BWI to London, layover 1 hour, then flying to Madrid, we will spend 3 days in Madrid, then fly Iberia Air, to Barcelona and spend 3 days there prior to the cruise. All of this was in the price....

I feel like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders. This price is amazing, it is making me think about how many of these Transatlantics we can do.... Rome, London.. etc...

So I got to pick my flights, determine the layover time frame, and the seats, and the carriers, this Choice Air stuff is wonderful.

Only draw back was I had to pay up front for the flights and if I cancel I have to pay a major fee, I am not planning on cancelling anyway, but it gets kinda scary...

So we have flights and seats already booked..... Whoop!

I still have to book my flight back from Ft Lauderdale, but I can get Southwest for $100 each on that one.

I am so excited!

Awesome job on airfare!! Since you are connecting in europe you have to go by their baggage restrictions right? Lower max weight - ugh

I am fine with the baggage restrictions.

British Airways, gives you one checked bag at 51lbs and one carry on bag at 51lbs and a laptop bag.

So we each have a clam shell piece of luggage, and a back pack, so we should be good.

For Iberia the luggage allowance is, One personal item: No charge, One bag carry-on: No charge, One bag checked: No charge
Size and Weight Per Bag Allowed* 45 in/115 cm (carry-on) 62 in/158 cm (checked) and 50 lbs./23 kgs (checked)

So we should be good there too. That was one of the things I checked before booking with them today.

Awesome on the air tickets! I read that , I think it is South West that they are going to start charging for if you miss your flight or don't show up. How I would love voice command for typing.

I think voice command for typing would be great, I wonder if you have problems with auto correct?
