We are headed to BC in a couple weeks. My husband will have to work a bit while we are there. How is in room Internet access? Is the wifi in room free? I assume in the lobby it is. How spotty was in room Internet access? Are there room requests I can make that will enable better in room wifi access? Working on vacation for him isn't optional :( any advice is appreciated.

Thanks again for all your input. I can't believe we will be there soon. It will be our kiddos first visit and my DDs 8th birthday.

Thanks to everyone for a very enjoyable and friendly thread. I've really enjoyed lurking here and posting occassionally.

I fly out on Friday my time (Thursday yours)...and will be hitting DLR first. I'll be home at the BCV in late September and I hope to see Teena this time round.

Have fun all. :goodvibes

Thanks.

Melbourne......the one in Australia; not Florida.

Hitting DLR first and hoping to catch up with a bunch of Dissers there (including Bringingupdisney) and then a road trip before hitting the world. I.can't.wait.

I have a question....Can you order food "to go" at Captain's Grill at the YC? I was wondering about this, would love to be able to order it and take it back to the room.

Yes, "sort of". As I have mentioned before, we do this at bfast b/c other than whole character breakfast situation, this is only place to get mickey waffles at yc/bc (other than maybe room service?) So I tell host/maitre d' that I am going to be ordering "to go", and then when seated I remind waiter (although usually they already know), who simply takes my order and brings it out in already boxed/wrapped package. So not truly takeout, but close. And you are still expected to tip, b/c waiter is still serving you, and actually doing more work b/c has to arrange for whole packaging, etc. Also, some of the condiments/utensils not available at capt grille, but can gather them at the beach club marketplace.

couple of pics from my trip from last week of august. Been crazy catching up in the real world.

first is the cribs as requested then the view from my balcony looking to the left. rm 4150. it connected to 4152 which the rest of my family was in.

i'll post my thoughts of the week after i catch up on the thread. only 25 pages to go...

quick thoughts on my first YC stay 8/25 to 8/31

not much to complain about. loved the room, location. our recent stays were at POR and we got used to a food court so that was an adjustment. loved the magicbands. no issues with the bands, everything worked.

the location to tap to open your room is too close to the door frame.

disney also needs to improve it's wifi if it expects people to manage their trip using MDE apps. found it easier to use LTE than wifi.

also wish the yacht club store was open earlier than 9am.

Thank you so much for your comments, pictures and contributing to the YC View Thread!

:thumbsup2

We received our MBs about 2 weeks ago and arrive for our first stay at the BC on Saturday :)

Today I received an e-mail from Disney with tips on using the MBs. We can even use them to check in at DME - I didn't know that! Here's the e-mail:

Thanks for posting the email info. If you don't mind, I would like to link this post to the info I have on the first page about Magic Bands.

:goodvibes

Checked in and was surprised with a free upgrade to a 1 bedroom suite and club level access. Not sure why but we're extremely happy:thumbsup2

Congrats!!! That is an awesome upgrade!

If you have pictures, we would love to see them when you get back from your trip.

Enjoy.

:woohoo:

I am already starting to plan for our trip in 8 months because this my "pleasurable activity" break when at work. :) For room request, the past two years, we have requested a higher floor for quiet as my son would actually nap. Now I think DH would like to request close to pool. John will be 7 and we will probably be in the pool a lot. Is there something that I am not thinking about other than it will be noisier? Just call me master of the obvious :)

Thanks for all the great info! I have learned so much from your efforts.

:welcome:

Is your trip in May?

Would you like me to add you to the Be Our Guest List? (Page 1, Post 15)

:cool1:

As Wood Nymph says below, requesting a room close to transportation will also be close to the lobby and SAB access so that may be a good location for you.

We had a room that overlooked the main pool once, and not only was it noisy, but there seemed to be a lot of outdoor lighting and it made it hard to get the room really dark. Although the view was great it was my least favorite room because of the noise and the bright lights.

If you look at the map of the BC/YC and the location of the main pool, SAB, you'll see that the pool isn't very close to the elevator. And the rooms that are closest to the pool are above the restaurants and stores, and the walk to the elevator is fairly long. The elevators are located on the other side of the lobby, and rooms that are near these elevators would probably be good ones to have. You could request "close to transportation" and then that would put you close to the lobby and close to an exit to the pool. :)

Thanks! :thumbsup2

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list. End of September?

:yay:

As jbharr1 mentions and others have commented, the wifi can be spotty. I have heard it is especially bad around the pool.

For people who have used the resort wifi there in the past month, could you comment on the access. Where did you experience decent access/speed, and where was it not so great???

Thanks!

:goodvibes

Have a fantastic trip!!! We can't wait to hear about it!!!

I had to do some work during my trip when I stayed at AoA. The wifi there was very spotty. There was a phone number for tech on the phone. I called and my connection was much better. I suggest that you do the same if your husband has trouble connecting.

Looking forward to it. There is probably going to be a few of us Dissers doing the same thing that morning. One of the other Aussies wants to meet as well; and one of the DL board regulars PM'd me to let me know that he will be there as well.

So, its looking like 4 of us doing the same morning run/attraction plan. I've got everyone's contact details; so we'll work it out.

Thank you both so much!! I am so glad I asked and I will definitely choose close to transportation because that sounds like it would be the best compromise. Yes, we are going in May and I would love to be added to the Be Our Guest list. What an amazing resource you all are :thumbsup2

We were in room 4199 at the YC. It was right next to a stairwell that opened to the YC entrance to SAB. We often used the stairs going to and from the pool.

Just got back from a wonderful stay at BCV, Sept 4-10. Will be posting a review shortly with info on our Magic Bands, parks, food, etc. We had a wonderful time, and never waited for anything. It was not crowded, and that was fantastic! We had no problems with our bands and loved them.

I think they still supply a cable so you may be better hard wiring for a connection
