Day 15 – Tusker House – Animal Kingdom – Grand Floridian Café

It was a bright and early start for us today, as we made our way to Animal Kingdom for 08:00 ADR at Tusker House. This was our first visit for a safari breakfast, so did not know what to expect. Check in was quick and then we joined a queue for a photograph with Donald.

Once inside, I recognised the layout from our visit a few years previous when this was open for counter service. It is a self-service buffet with a good selection available. Drinks were replenished on a regular basis and during our stay Mickey, Daisy and Goofy visited us.

I am not much of a morning person with regards to dining early and so did not do the meal much justice.

With breakfast over, we headed over to Kilimanjaro Safari and managed to get on one of the first vehicles departing. Plenty of animals were out and about, which made a pleasant change.

Next up was to my favourite Disney show – Festival of the Lion King. This was spoilt by a huge group of South American visitors who allowed their children to scream and run wild with no consideration for other guests.

On exiting the show, we managed a few photopass photos with Pocahontas and Chip & Dale.

With no particular plan for today, we headed across to Finding Nemo The Musical. We arrived as the theatre was just loading and so basically had our choice of seats. We opted for the front right hand side near to the stage extension and had a great view.

The sun was still beating down as we left the show and so we made our way to Its a Bugs life. I like to take my time to admire the animal carvings on the entrance leading to the theatre.

After this we decided to visit Flights of Wonder. Last year was the first time that we had seen this show and a return was in order.

On exiting, we decided to leave the park and head back to OKW.

Once back at base, we made our regular visit to the pool and Sue managed to get a wash load done at the same time.

The storm clouds gathered overhead and so we returned back to our room in preparation for tonights ADR at Grand Floridian Café. This is a place we have visited many times, even paying out of pocket on two previous occasions before we had DDP and still remains one of our favourite single credit meals. On arrival at the Grand Floridian car park, it was a race against time to reach the lobby before the rain started falling - luckily we just made it! After checking in, we were given a pager and so we had a wander to the outside verandah, watching the rain beating down.

Our pager soon flashed and very quickly we were shown to our table to browse the menu. I already knew what my choice would be, since I consider the steaks to be better than those offered by Yachtsman Steakhouse and Le Cellier.

Nigel: New York Strip Steak with Fries and Veg - Shared Dessert - Diet Coke
Sue: Orecchiette Pasta - Shared Dessert - Bahama Mama
Emma: New York Strip Steak with Fries and Veg - Chocolate Fondue - Diet Coke

As usual, the meal lived up to all expectation, together with the service and as a result, we will be back yet again! On leaving the restaurant, we decided to chill out on one of the many settees whilst listening to Glen playing a medley of Disney classics on the piano. The rain had eased off quite considerably on our return to the car park and so we headed back to OKW to call it a day.

Coming up next: Blizzard Beach & Garden Grill

sounds like a pretty good day to me. Really like the chip and dale photo. Must visit the GFC one day.

Great photos as usual, loved the gorilla photo but after seeing the owl photo... wow!
Thanks! :goodvibes. The gorilla shot was în quite low light and just managed to grab it before he turned his back on us and went to sleep

Chip n Dale were being quite naughty as usual which makes better for a more natural photo and yes you MUST visit GFC but keep it quiet just in case Disney make it 2 credits! :rotfl2:

I always love your photos but the one of the gorilla is my favourite so far :)

He has such a funny expression on his face !

We still haven't tried GFC and will put this right on our next trip. Have you tried lunch there?
