2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

2 more days to go!!!!!! just place my Garden Grocer order. Been checking the weather regiously and it's improving every day (was 60% for rain, now only 20%). Have one more day of work, then 1 day to finish packing and get anything I forgot. Freckless, how were the Love Bugs while you were there?

I'm not Feckless, but I just got back from BC late Friday night. Sorry to tell you that the love bugs are out in full force. Didn't let them ruin our trip though; they were only annoying when waiting for the buses.:)

I just wanted to give a shout out to "Natebenma" and everyone else who continues to put in all of the hard work to make this thread so chocked full of information!!

I was wondering about the coffee pots in the room, and took a little walk through the first few pages of the thread, and in one of them was updated info on the coffee pots and pictures to boot!!

so THANK YOU to everyone who helps keep this thread on the BC/YC so up to date!!

:worship::worship::worship::worship:

my first stay at the BC is coming up in 25 short days and Im so excited I cant even stand it!!

Thanks for the info!! If I get those off portable bug repellent do hickies, do you think they will work. It's me whose not a bug fan. I will not be a happy camper if they are flying on or around me while at the pool.

I don't remember seeing the bugs at the pool, so that's one good thing. This was our first experience with them, so I can't tell you whether the Off would work. My DD couldn't stand them!

When I booked my trip through DVC I was told that I can't make a room request. Last summer I could and I got a fantastic Epcot view. Does anyone know if they aren't taking room requests anymore???:confused3
I am hoping the CM didn't know what they were talking about!!!:(

I've never had DVC tell me that and I've made room location requests for almost every stay. I didn't make a request for this one, as I don't know what I would request, so I suppose that could be a new thing, but it doesn't seem likely. It's worth calling again and talking to a different CM, I think. That seems to be the general rule of thumb when calling Disney--unfortunately, not all of them always know what they are talking about.

In case you didn't notice: for anyone who is traveling there the last week of May or during June, they just updated the Park Hours!!! The link is on the Theme Park Strategies page.

Also, on June 2 and 3 at DTD west side, there is something relating to "cars" going on. This is posted in a separate link.

I can't believe how close our trip is getting............I can actually say we're going next week, since we leave next Friday.

Has anyone done the Mickey Tie Dye? Is this for younger kids? How about the ice cream making?

thanks in advance!!

Thanks for your response.

I'm especially looking for these. The heavenly cherry danish!! Disney makes them the best.
If I must I'll trek over to the Boardwalk just to have one.

My DD loves those also!!!

My favorite, is the cherry turnover. You used to be able to find them in each park at the bakery............now I's like a scavenger hunt!!! Oh well, sometimes I just have to settle for a cinnamon roll ;)

Happy Mom's Day!!!!

I'm just grinning from ear to ear. Being with Jeanne and Lily on Mother's Day is a dream come true. I usually spend it at the BC in the lobby!

Today Lily is going to her other Grandmom's later in the day. Jeanne and I have a four hour wedding dress appointment to buy her her Disney wedding dress.

I hope everybody has a wonderful day!!!!

This sounds like an awesome way to spend Mother's day !!!

I... I started taking Jeanne on a mother/daughter vacation to keep the tradition going. No men, no kids ... just some "women time". This year we leave on 6/23 for a dude ranch in Buena Vista, Colorado. We fly back on 7/1. They've informed us there is no cell phone service, only electricity is generators so after "lights out", you need to bring and use flashlights. It's not really roughing it though. We have our own two bedroom cabin with maid service. It should be a hoot! I think maybe after this, we'll go back to the caribbean.

Wow! I hope you post some stories, that sounds like a lot of fun, and definitely something I would do with DD when she is older.

I didn't think we'd be back again until next year, but I got my first pin code and we are headed to the Beach Club from June 27-July 6. ..

YAY!!!:cool1:

Is it too early to start planning for next year?
YA
You can probably do a room only reservation now, they won't offer the packages till closer to a year out. I remember trying to book a trip about 18 months ahead and had to do it this way. room only to get a confirmation number, then expand it when they start offering the prices onthe web site.

.. We've done online check-in a dozen times but after we parked and approached the BC entrance, a CM met us there with our room keys! That was a first, we've always had to still go to the desk. VERY appreciated! Even the fellow visitors were friendlier than we've usually experienced.

And not that you all haven't seen it a million times already, but one of my SAB pics:

You all have a new convert now. We can't wait to go back! :thumbsup2

wow great room shot! was that considered a standard view? pretty!

We are staying YC - CL in June. should I bother to do online check in or just wait and check in when we get there?

those personal repellants are good if you are standing/sitting in one place, like around a camp fire or at a soccer/baseball game, but it take a few minutes for the "cloud" to form, so if you are walking around, you won't really benefit from it that much.

You are welcome! As I have said many times, we have a fantastic group of contributors to this thread. I have only had 2 stays at the Beach Club, so my direct knowledge is not that great, but I am very "DIS-organized", so it is easy for me to put together the information from others.

Thanks so much for posting this. Going over to check that out now.

My trip is 3 weeks from today. I don't even know what time my flight is yet! We have a parent's meeting next Tuesday.

We had no love bugs for the first part of our trip, but for late last week it was not great! I didn't notice them by the pool at all, thank God, but they were all over the BCV balcony of our family, in and on the buses, and at the bus stops. They were also pretty plentiful in the MK. My DD was stressed about it, and complained a lot (she used to love bugs as a toddler, now hates them!) but it didn't affect us otherwise. I can imagine them being annoying by the pool if they were there. They don't seem to bother people except by accidentally bumping into them, so I don't know if bug spray would work...

Happy Mother's day to everyone!

While celebrating my wife's weekend, she reminded me that it will be on Father's Day that we are going to be flying to Orlando. Guess that's a Father's Day present I'll remember forever!

To Teena and Jean, I hope you guys enjoyed your Mother's Day in beautiful Las Vegas. I know it was hot today (I live just 3 hours west of you) so I hope you stayed cool!

What a fantastic Father's Day present! :)

Quick check in from the Yacht Club bus stop! We are having a great time. Weather is cooler than I expected (no complaints there). Supposed to rain today but we won't melt. Headed to MK this morning for CP breakfast and CRT lunch. We tried to time the lazy river but there were too many variables!

Now there is a post on the go! I tried as well to time the lazy river but it didn't work out. Too many people to stop for and times I was paddling.

Worked on the first part of my TR. It's gigantic, and I realize that I don't have enough pictures to make it popular. :lmao: I decided this trip that, contrary to normal Dis policy, I would experience Disney first hand instead of through the lens of my camera! :) I'll let you know when the first installment is up.

Happy to help out!!!

http://media.disneywebcontent.com/S...pdf/ParkHours/WDW_Operating_Calendar_june.pdf This is the link for June.

and for anyone wanting the updated May hours just change the month at the end of the link to May.

Make sure that at the bottom of the page the date reads 5/11/12 to get the most up to date hours.

If I get those off portable bug repellent do you think they will work.

Love bugs are so dumb that there is very little probabilty that they would know that you even have repellant. They like warm places like roadways. I think you are somewhat safe around the pool. May find a few strays there now and then but I wouldn't get too worried about it.

We are staying YC - CL in June. should I bother to do online check in or just wait and check in when we get there?

Seems to be the rule of thumb that if you are CL, don't ruin the experience of the check-in process by doing on-line. It's not needed. You are met at the door, wisked up to the fifth floor, given a Sunken Treasure and a personal masseuse will rub your feet while they complete the check-in process for you. Okay, I made up the part about the Sunken Treasure, but you don't need to worry about doing anything on-line, it's fast and painless when you are CL.

What?!? You should have just yelled

"Hey, get out of my way! I'm on a mission for Dee"

Looking forward to your report, absence of pictures or not.

Dee Here's a question for you. On the first page under the "Laundry" section, it mentions that the machines are HE and the repairman says HE detergent should be used................and that REGULAR detergent is available in the marketplace.

My question is (because I can't remember) do the vending machines sell HE detergent? and if not, what happens if you use REGULAR detergent in the HE machine....will clothes be OK?

TIA

I can't speak for the detergent they sell, but in an HE machine you need to use ALOT less of regular detergent to prevent over-sudsing.

And hooray for June park hours being extended!!!!!!! :cool1:

Are June activities posted now??

These are usually not available until the very end of May or most likely the first couple of days in June. I post the schedules as soon as I get them, but I have to wait until someone provides them to me.

I have no idea! I have to assume that the vending machines sell the proper detergent for the washers. As far as The Marketplace and the language about "regular detergent" being for sale-I think I inherited that info, so I don't know exactly what it means. Do the villas (not the villa laundry room) have regular or HE machines?

Anyone know what kind of detergent is sold at the Marketplace?

I haven't gone over to the Marketplace picture thread to see if you can see what is sold there.

That's what I am hoping also..............whatever is sold in the vending machines should be the correct kind.

I have used the machines before, but for the life of me I can't remember if I purchased the detergent? or if I packed it with me from home?

Wow, is that the first sign of what's to come..................can't even remember 12 months ago!!! :faint:

I know how you feel. I enjoyed Mother's day too with my new grandson. Sorry we didn't get to say goodbye to you last Monday. We passed by and you were busy talking to someone. When we went back to see you later in the day you had left. My DH and I looked for you at the airport on Tuesday. We were at Gate 1 and there were no Southwest flights leaving from Gates 1 - 9.

Have a safe trip home.
